Generally high-tech ventures have few resources with which to withstand unpredictable environmental jolts. Therefore environmental changes may have severe effects on the performance of high-tech ventures. Unfortunately previous empirical studies for predicting the performance of ventures hardly deal with such dynamic changes of performance. We try to examine the performance changes of ventures through a longitudinal study before and after severe environmental changes, namely IMF Bailout Memorandum. For the empirical study, we classified venture firms into four types based on entrepreneur's assessment of their performance changes and investigated how these four types differ in characteristics of entrepreneurs, environment, strategy, and organizational features. We found that differentiation strategies, fit between strategy and environmental changes, entrepreneur's trust and activities such as networking and knowledge accumulation about customers, and decentralized organizational structure were important to the performance changes of high-tech ventures.
Despite recent attention to entrepreneurial gift, there has been minimal empirical research regarding characteristics of individual entrepreneurial gift. The aim of this study is to specify and conceptualize characteristics of entrepreneurial gift from systematic empirical investigation. We operationalized the entrepreneurial gift as students participating in 'intellectual property based future creative entrepreneurs' administered by Korean patent office, and compared characteristics of the entrepreneurial gift with those of the gifted students in invention. A total 226 middle and high school students selected as the gifted students in invention, intention scholars, or future creative entrepreneurs by Korean patent office participated in this survey. The survey was designed to measure major adolescent areas such as psychological, intellectual, educational, vocational areas, life purpose and its perception area, innovation-related area, invention-related area, and personal and environmental information. The result showed that entrepreneurial gift has higher score in entrepreneurial potential, in addition to the characteristics that the talented students in invention has. Entrepreneurial gift has similar characteristics in the area of invention-related and environmental conditions, while they showed higher ability in terms of invention-related area and intellectual area. Implications, limitation, and future research direction were discussed.

Results showed that as a whole, career orientations affected entrepreneurial intentions. Specifically, entrepreneurial orientations had positive effects. and security orientations had marginally negative effects on entrepreneurial intentions, while, unexpectedly, autonomy orientations had no significant effects. Entrepreneurial self-efficacy had the strongest positive effects on entrepreneurial intentions. Social supports and successful role models, which were not identified as distinct variables by the respondents, were integrated as a new variable of 'network environments' for analysis in this study. Network environments positively affected on entrepreneurial intentions. Social perceptions for entrepreneurs, however, did not affect on entrepreneurial intentions. Based on the results of career orientations, self-efficacy, and network environment, the implications for activating entrepreneurship were discussed.

Methods: A survey was conducted targeting 6th industry entrepreneurs, and the relationship was analyzed using SPSS and AMOS. This study examines the differences in the various characteristics of the firms along their growth stage based on the survey data of 2,515 Korean ventures. Venture characteristics include KSFs(Key Success Factors), environment attributes of their product markets, CEO roles, the use of OPR(Other Peoples Resource). Growth stage of the ventures are classified by their dominant management problems: foundation, the market launch of the first proprietary product or service, The Outset of second generation product or service, and the Initial Public Offering (IPO) and stabilization. The results of this study show substantial differences in many aspects among firms at different growth stages. Although common KSFs exist, KSFs are changing as the venture evolves. Differences in KSFs and environmental attributes along growth stage require CEO to do different role in business process. Different kinds and amounts of external resources are needed according to their growth stage. However, almost all of external resources are offered to ventures in later stage. Entrepreneurs need to change their role, as their firms grow, from visioning and strategic role to marketing and production emphasized role. Based on the results, this study suggests a number of new government policies and future research ideas. Other implications and limitations of this study are also noted.
