Modulation of events characteristic of carcinogenesis or of cancer cells is being emphasized as a rational strategy to combat cancer. This is achieved through chemoprevention by a variety of agents. Phenolic compounds, particularly polyphenols, have been shown to be highly active in this regard. Certain cellular and molecular events relevant to carcinogenesis are modified by polyphenols. The present investigation has been carried out to examine some of these aspects.(omitted)

Environmental standards for beneficial uses of dredged materials are proposed. Even though chemical analysis of ocean sediments are carried out frequently, their analyses results were not interrelated with the effects of biological lives due to a shortage of biological data. These facts have resulted in difficulty to develope Korean's standards of recycling dredged materials. This paper first searched existing current foreign standards, analyzed local contaminated ocean sediment data, identified their main chemical components of contaminants, and then compared with clean-up standards of sediments consisting of lower and higher levels. From these analysis, new environmental standards considering Korean domestic circumstances are proposed. It is judged that new standards are appropriate to both Korean national sedimental environments and economically recycling aspects because environmental standard levels proposed are higher than background levels of sediments in Korean and foreign standards.
One of the most prevalent causes of reinforced concrete (RC) structural deterioration is chloride-induced corrosion. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive insight into the environmental effect of RC's chloride ingress process. The first step is to investigate how relative humidity, temperature, and wind influence chloride ingress into concrete. The probability of initiation time of chloride-induced corrosion is predicted using a probabilistic model that considers these aspects. Parametric analysis is conducted on several factors impacting the corrosion process, including the depth of concrete cover, surface chloride concentration, relative humidity, and temperature to expose environmental features. According to the findings, environmental factors such as surface chloride concentration, relative humidity and temperature substantially impact on the time to corrosion initiation. The long- and short-distance impacts are also examined. The meteorological data from the National Meteorological Center of China are collected and used to analyze the environmental characteristics of the chloride ingress issue for structures along China's coastline. Finally, various recommendations are made for improving durability design against chloride attacks.
Objectives: The main purpose of this review is to introduce the current status of environmental health indicators of Korea and to share our experience of the developmental process of Korean version of environmental health indicators. Methods: This paper describes 1) the background of environmental health indicators; 2) the ways how we developed environmental health indicators of Korea; 3) the current status of selected indicators; and 4) suggestions for the further policy development. Results: The 6-year long project for the development of environmental health indicator systems in Korea could provide outputs on three major distinct aspects on the indicator issues. Firstly, we have developed the rational process/manual so that the government can select and advocate the potential indicators with a relatively objective manner. Secondly, we have suggested the potential candidate indicators which can be implemented immediately. We also pooled all indicators in order to evaluate the summary index which we expect to tell the status of environmental health. Third, we provided suggestions on the further utilization of this indicator system. Conclusion: The mission of environmental health policy is to resolve the public health problems occurring because of hazardous environment. In order to identify the environmental determinants of the community health problems and to evaluate the effectiveness of the policy implemented, these environmental indicators can be used. Therefore, the government should implement this ready-prepared system of environmental health indicators.
This paper presents the state of the art of the CFD applications to vegetated open-channel flows. First, important aspects of the physics of vegetated flows found through the laboratory experiments are briefly reviewed. Then, previous CFD applications to one-dimensional vertical structure, partly-vegetated flows, compound open-channel flows with floodplain vegetation, and fully three-dimensional numerical simulations are reviewed. Finally, topics for further researches such as relationship between the resistance and flexural rigidity, additional drag due to foliages, and melting the experience of CFD with the depth-averaged modeling, are suggested.
The present research aims to develop a methodology to rapidly assess bridges with damage to the superstructure, caused by overheight trucks or lower-than-average overhead clearance. Terrestrial laser scanning and image processing techniques are combined with the finite element method to arrive at an analytical model which is more accurate, with respect to the complex geometrical aspects of the bridge in its damaged configuration. ""Virtual load testing"" may subsequently be carried out on this analytical model to determine the reserve capacity of the structure in an objective manner.
The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data in developing environmental education curriculum by searching the consciousness junior-high school teachers in Seoul. 28 junior-high schools in Seoul were randomly selected and again selected 547 teachers to answer this questionnaire. The major findings of this study are as follows; 1. Teachers recognized the seriousness of environmental problems in the national level(about 54%) and Seoul level(about 90%) 2. Teachers recognized the need of environmental education at junior and high school(85%). 3. Only 17.5% of respondents marked to be selected Environmental Education at the 6th curriculum revision in their school. 4. If Environmental Education was selected at the 6th curriculum revision, about 58% of respondents recognized that Environmental Education Teacher should be responsible Environmental Education course. 5. If Environmental Education course was not selected at the 6th curriculum revision in their school, about 45% of respondents recognized that Environmental Education course should be done the whole subjects. 6. About 57% of respondents recognized that effective method of Environmental Education should be used audio-visual material. 7. About 25% of respondents recognized that environmental education should be prevented by Enterance-exam oriented education. Several improvements should be made on the following aspects; 1. At the 6th curriculum revision, Environmental Education course should be selected a required course. 2. At the Collage of Education, Environment-related course should be established. 3. Programs of environmental education should be urgently designed and improved so that teachers can proceed it more effectively.

This paper investigates the effect of environmental performance and environmental management on firm value using financial performance as mediation variable. There are still inconsistencies in research on environmental performance and environmental management and their impact on company value. This research used a quantitative approach involving secondary data. The variables used are environmental performance, environmental management, company financial performance, and company value. Multiple regression was used because it allowed the researchers to examine the relationship of each variable contained in the research framework by describing all of the direct effects (non-mediated effects) and the indirect effects of the research variables. The research sample consisted of 144 manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2012 to 2017. Statistically, this study found that there was no direct effect that had a significant impact on environmental performance and firm value, and found that there is a significant direct effect of environmental management variables on firm value. Improved environmental management by the company is proven to increase the value of the company directly. This paper found that, not only does an increase in stakeholder trust happen when a company increases its environmental awareness, but there is also an increase in the financial aspects of the company.

In Korea, health-related items under current EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) system can only be found in the categories of hygiene and public health. However, environment and public health are not adequately connected and also health is underestimated even though health is an important component of environmental assessments. As a result, health is not well integrated within criteria for investigating the impacts on environment. International trends in HIA (Health Impact Assessment) to strengthen the connection between environment and health were investigated in this research. Definitions, functions, circumstances, and merits of HIA in foreign countries were compared. By collecting and analyzing international organizations' and other countries' data related with HIA and EIA, preceding conditions and execution plans were suggested to link EIA and HIA from SEA (Strategic Environmental Assessment) aspects and to successfully accomplish EIA in Korea. According to this research, EHIA (Environmental Health Impact Assessment) can predict and manage the results of economical development only under the principles of inhabitants' participation, sustainability, and social justice. EHIA should be modified and improved towards increasing regional and national capabilities. For this, preparation of adequate procedure is required to connect EIA and HIA.
As the management and preservation of the environment become an important social issue, information required to support environmental task is required. So, there is an increasing demand for environmental information and appropriate systems to manage it. The vast volume of environmental data is distributed in different knowledge domains and systems. Environmental data objects have the complex structure containing environmental quality data and attribute data. Environmental information systems must be able to address these properties. This research has aimed at constructing well-defined schema design of environmental data, and making system architecture that environmental data kept by authorities should be made available to the public user. There are 3 major components in environmental information systems architecture ; User interface, Catalog libraries, Communication Provider. Web browsers provide consistent and intuitive user interfaces on Internet. The communication provider is a collection of diverse CGI functions. The main roles of the CGIs are to build interfaces between the Web, databases. Catalog libraries is libraries of various matadata including administration matadata. Administration matadata support the environmental administration and the managerial aspects of environmental data rather than explain a database itself or its properties.
