On the Virtual Clay Modeling Using a Force Reflecting Haptic Manipulator (반발력을 생성하는 햅틱장비를 이용한 가상의 점토 모델링에 관한 연구)

  • A deformable non-Uniform Rational B-Spline (NURBS) based volume is programed for the force reflecting exoskeleton haptic device. In this work, a direct free form deformation (DFFD) technique is applied for the realistic manipulation. In order to implement the real-time deformation, a nodal mapping technique is used to connect points on the virtual object with the NURBS volume. This geometric modeling technique is ideally incorporated with the force reflecting haptic device as a virtual interface. The results in this work introduce details for the complete set-up for the realistic virtual clay modeling task with force feedback. The force reflecting exoskeleton haptic manipulator, coupled with a supporting PUMA 560 manipulator and the virtual clay model are integrated with the graphics display, and results show that the force feedback from the realistic physically based virtual environment can greately enhance the sense of immersion.

Development of Predictive Model for Pollutants Emission from Power Plants (발전소의 대기오염물질 배출 예측 모델 개발)

  • From the power plant in a steel plant, environment pollutants such as $SO_x$, $NO_x$, CO and $CO_2$ are emitted by combustion reactions of the fuels which are by-product gases, oil and liquefied natural gas(LNG). To reduce the amounts of the pollutants, it is important to build a predictive model for the emission of the pollutants. In this paper, model that predict the amounts of generated pollutants for the used fuel is developed by using Gibbs free energy minimization method[1] with the temperature correction technique. For some data set, the calculation results from this model are compared with the real emission amounts of $SO_x$, $NO_x$, and the result of the calculation by both ASPEN PLUS which is a commercial simulation software. This model shows good results and can be applied to other power plants.

  • In this paper, assuming that local range information is available, a collision-free path planning algorithm for multiple mobile robots is presented by using Hopfield neural optimization network. The energy function of the network is built using the present position and the goal position of each robot as well as its local range information. The proposed algorithm has several advantages such as the effective passing around obstacles with the directional safety distance, the easy implementation of robot motion planning including its rotation, the real-time path planning capability from the totally localized computations of path for each robot, and the adaptivity on arbitrary environment since any special shape of obstacles is not assumed.

But an automobile environment can pose extremely harsh physical conditions impacting audio quality, safety, and reliability. This article introduced a Car Kits that provided a total entertainment and telematics solution, which support all current features within the constraints of low power consumption, form factor, price, ease-of-use, manufacture ability, testability and high total quality.

Environmental tobacco smoke and childhood asthma

  • In recent years, environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) has become an important worldwide public health issue. Children are particularly vulnerable to ETS because they are still developing. ETS exposure causes a wide range of adverse health effects on childhood asthma. There is convincing evidence that ETS exposure is causally associated with an increased prevalence of asthma, increased severity of asthma and worsening asthma control in children who already have the disease, even though a causal relationship with asthma onset is not yet established for asthma incidence. Mechanisms underlying these adverse effects of ETS are not clearly elucidated but e studies on this issue suggest that genetic susceptibility, impaired lung function, and augmented airway inflammation and remodeling may be involved. Children with asthma are just as likely to be exposed to ETS as children in general and there is no risk-free level of exposure. Therefore, providing a smoke-free environment may be of particular importance to the asthmatic children exposed to ETS who have adverse asthma outcomes, as well as to children with genetic susceptibility who are at increased risk of developing asthma upon exposure to ETS in early childhood.

  • 오존은 태양광선의 존재 하에 질소산화물과 VOCs가 관련하여 발생하는 생성물이다. 대기중의 VOCs 는 히드록실 라디칼(hydroxyl radical, OHㆍ)과 같은 자유 라디칼(free radical)과 반응하여 하이드로퍼옥시 라디칼(hydroperoxy radical, HO$_2$ㆍ)과 알킬 퍼옥시 라디칼(alkyl peroxy radical, RO$_2$ㆍ)을 생성해 낸다. 이 퍼옥시 라디칼들은 NO를 NO$_2$ㆍ로 산화시키며 또한 히드록실 라디칼을 재생하며 이 히드록실 라디칼은 다시 VOCs와 반응한다. 그리고, 이때 산화된 NO$_2$는 햇빛에 의해 NO와 자유산소원자(free oxygen atom)로 광분해 되는데, 여기서 생성된 자유산소인자는 산소분자와 반응하여 오존을 생성한다.   • This paper describes power potential field method for the collision-free path planning of stereo-vision based mobile robot. Area based stereo matching is performed for obstacle detection in uncertain environment. The repulsive potential is constructed by distributing source points discretely and evenly on the boundaries of obstacles and superposing the power potential which is defined so that the source potential will have more influence on the robot than the sink potential when the robot is near to source point. The mobile robot approaches the goal point by moving the robot directly in negative gradient direction of the main potential. We have investigated the possibility of power potential method for the collision-free path planning of mobile robot through various experiments.

  • A free piston and free displacer(FPFD) Stirling cryocooler for cooling infrared and cryo-sensors is currently under development at KIMM(Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials). A Stirling cryocooler is relatively compact, reliable, commercially available, and uses helium as a working fluid. The FPFD stirling cryocooler consists of two compressor pistons driven by linear motors which makes pressure waves and a pneumatically driven displacer piston with regenerator. The FPFD Stirling cryocooler employs 1) the Stirling cycle for refrigeration, 2) linear for driving the cryocooler, 3) spring and gas support systems, and 4) fine gap for clearance seals. It is the most suitable design for a mechanical cryocooler utilized in night vision environment. In order to get optimum operating frequency, natural frequency of piston and displacer, optimum phase angle between piston and displacer, cooling capacity, performance tests of the Stirling cryocooler by the frequency characteristics were performed.

The Impact of Japan's Rivalry with China on Its Willingness to Pursue Free Trade Agreements

  • This study explores the main causes that have led Japan to conclude an FTA with ASEAN. This paper appraises Japan-ASEAN relations and shows that closer relations between Japan and ASEAN have provided momentum for the launch of Japan's FTAs with ASEAN. Consequently, this paper explores the origins and progress of Japan-ASEAN FTA, as well as the strategies and initiatives embraced by Japan in its FTA negotiations with ASEAN. By examining the domestic, regional, and global factors that led to the launch of the Japan-ASEAN FTA, this paper concludes that the strategies adopted were primarily aimed at its main rival, China. The rivalry has resulted in both positive and negative consequences for East Asian Regional economic environment. The negative consequences include the creation of a "spaghetti bowl", which increases costs for Japanese firms operating abroad, and "slows down the progress of the creation of an effective single regional institution".

  • A simple, convenient and practical green synthetic protocol for sodium bisulfite catalyzed multicomponent reaction of ethyl acetoacetate, hydrazine hydrate, malononitrile, and various aldehydes for the synthesis of 6-amino-4-phenyl-3-methyl-2,4-ihydropyrano[2,3-c]pyrazole-5-carbonitriles using ultrasound irradiations in solvent free condition. This method provides the advantage of operational simplicity, shorter reaction time and excellent yields making the protocol environment friendly and economically lucrative.
