  • In analysis of pumping test data, generally infinite domain has been assumed. However, in many cases, this assumption was not readily satisfied. Some boundaries conditions and natural heterogeneity of hydrogeologic properties would play critical roles on groundwater flow and contaminant transport. This study examined effects of some boundary conditions and heterogeneity on the groundwater flow and contaminant transport with basic numerical groundwater modeling, which provides implications for remediation of contaminated groundwater.

  • Multi-phase extraction of LNAPLs not only floating on groundwater but also captured in soil pores was studied in a simulated soil system. The extraction rate of LNAPL under the MPE conditions was much higher than the rate under usual hydraulic gradient conditions. The WE might be especially useful for recovery of oils in fine-textured soils such as clay-dominant soils. The vacuum-enhanced transport of LNAPL in soils also depended on the properties of LNAPL such as viscosity and density as well as soil textures.

  • The structural proteins of classical swine fever virus (CSFV) consist of nucleocapsid protein C and envelope glycoprotein $E^{rns}$ (E0), E1 and E2. Among them, E2, the most immunogenic of the CSFV glycoproteins, induces a protective immune response in swine. In this study, to determine the optimal expression conditions of glycoprotein E2 using baculovirus system, we investigated the influence of insect cells and media to the expression of recombinant E2. Recombinant virus containing glycoprotein E2 coding gene was constructed with bApGOZA DNA. Expression of the glycoprotein E2 was analyzed by SDS-PAGE and Western blot analysis using anti-CSFV E2 monoclonal antibodies. Expression of glycoprotein E2 in Sf21 cells was first observed after 3 days and reached a maximum on the 5th day after infection. Furthermore, the highest levels of glycoprotein E2 expression were observed at multiplicity of infection (MOI) of 5. When three different insect cell lines (Sf21, High-Five and Se301) were tested, High-Five cells showed the highest production. In addition, four different serum-free and serum-supplemented media, respectively, were tested for the expression of glycoprotein E2 and the budded virus (BV) titers. As a result, serum-supplemented medium provided the best conditions for protein production and the BV yield.

  • By taking an ecological approach, The purpose of this thesis was to 1. analyze the existing literary work about design directives for the elderly housing. 2. case study about actual housing conditions of elderly people, 3. grasp the level of satisfaction and level of requirement about housing environment by Korean elderly, 4. by integrating the above three, provide foundational data arranging the appropriate housing design directives pertaining to Korea's actual circumstances. The major findings in this study were surmmarized as follows. (1) From the six literary works, 27 items as Microsystem, 1,249 items as Mesosystem, and 330 items as Exosystem were founded and there was no evidence of directives for Macrosystem. (2) As a result of the case study, there appeared a substantial difference between actual conditions of housing environment for the Korean elderly and the design directives perceived in the literary works. (3) The level of satisfaction and for the Korean elderly housing environment were founded differently in each directives. (4) By ecological approach for the Korean elderly housing environment design directives as follows. In microsystem (13 items) in mesosystem(83 items), in exosystem(24 items), in macrosystem(15 items), 135 items in total were suggested as design directives for Korean Elderly housing environment.

  • Purpose: Few studies have considered the psychosocial work environment factors in relation to employee health. This study explored the relationship between psychosocial work characteristics and self-rated health among Korean employees. Methods: The study population of 21,476 employees was derived from the 2014 Korean Work Environment Survey (KWES). Psychosocial work environment was measured by Copenhagen psychosocial questionnaire scales. Results: Among employees at workplaces (n=21,476), 23.3% rated their health as poor. Among 12 indicators of psychosocial work environment characteristics, 'higher emotional demand', 'demands for hiding emotions', 'work-family conflict', and 'social community at work' were independently associated with risk of poor self-rated health of Korean employees after adjustment of all sociodemographics, work condition characteristics and physical work environment exposure. In addition, higher 'possibilities for development' and 'social support from supervisor' were more likely to decrease the risk of poor health. Conclusion: We suggest that psychosocial work environment is an important determinant of employees' health. The study results provide a good starting point for developing intervention and strategies for health improvement.
