Much interest on the thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) has recently been attracted in commercial fields as well as scientific and applied research. The TPEs have their own characteristic area especially in relation with block copolymers as well as many other polymeric materials, since they show interesting features displayed by the conventional vulcanized rubber, and at the same time, by the thermoplastics. In addition, they are characterized by a set of interesting properties inherent to block and graft copolymers, variety of blends and vulcanized materials. The importance of TPE as organic materials can be evaluated by the number of published reports (papers, patents, technical reports, etc). For the suitable introduction of the TPE, historic, scientific, technical and commercial considerations should be taken into account. This review article starts with a brief discussion on historical considerations, followed by a introduction of the main preparations and analytical techniques utilized in chemical, structural, and morphological studies. The properties, processing tools, the position among organic materials, and applications of TPEs are also briefly reviewed. Finally, the most probable trends of their future development are discussed in a short final remarks.

Concrete can be defective for several reasons, including an inadequate design, material selection of workmanship, failure to appreciate the hazards associated with prevailing enviromental conditions. Concrete can also deteriorate or be damaged in use. Thus, it is necessary to evaluate the safety of existing concrete strucutres. On the basis of these reasons, they must be performed for repair or rehabilitation. Presently, strengthening methods of R/C structure used in Korea, are an enlargement of concrete member, strengthening with steel plate or CFRP on the R/C structure. It has been widely estabilished that strengthening effect of CFRP is superior to steel plate in terms of it's lighter unit weight and higher tensile strength. But there are no construction results of CFRP on the civil R/C structure in Korea. The strengthening design technique with CFRP, it's const겨ction, and it's strengthening effect for deteriorated R/C rahmen bridge is introduced in this paper.

In this study, DLC films deposited by PECVD were evaluated to the properties of super-hydrophobic by CF4 treatment. The structure of DLC films were confirmed by Raman Spectra whether or not mixed sp3 (like diamond) peak and sp2 (like graphite) peak. And the hydrogen contents in the DLC films (F-DLC) were measured by RBS analysis. In addition, DLC films were analyzed by scratch test for adhesion, nano-indentation for hardness and tribo-meter of Ball-on-disc type for friction coefficient. In the result of analysis, DLC films had traditional structure regardless of variation of hardness at constant conditions. Also adhesion of DLC film was increased as higher material hardness. Otherwise, friction coefficient was increased as lower material hardness. The DLC films were treated by CF4 plasma treatment to enhance the properties of super-hydrophobic. And the DLC films were measured by ESEM(Enviromental Scanning Electron Microscope) for water condensation.

We coordinated the experiments with ozone pretreatment and two-phase anaerobic digestion using solid-liquid separation to raise the efficiency of sludge volume reduction and obtained the following results. The pre-treatment with ozone reduced the solid concentration in the average of TSS $8.3{\pm}2.0%$ TSS and $9.2{\pm}}2.8%$ VSS. Of the organic material, TCOD decreased $5.1{\pm}2.4%$, but SCOD showed $72{\pm}6.5%$ increased, which was due to destruction of the cell wall and dissolution of icell media by the powerful oxidative stress of ozone. During the two-phase anaerobic digestion process, we achieved the reduction of $21.5{\pm}3.4%$ TSS, $20.2{\pm}8.4%$ VSS, $32.1{\pm}7.9%$ TCOD and $22.1{\pm}7.2%$ SCOD in average. The maximum methane gas production were 177.6 mL per g TSS, 210.8 mL per g VSS, 127.0 mL per g TCOD and 1452.0 mL per g SCOD, respectively. Solid material reduction through the two-phase anaerobic digestion and MLE (Modified Ludzack-Ettinger) processes were 93.8% of TSS and 92.0% of VSS. We concluded that suggested two-phase anaerobic digestion and MLE process could achieve the reasonable production of biogas and a maximum reduction of the sludge volume.

An apple polygalacturonase-inhibiting protein (PGIP), which specifically inhibits endopolygalacturonase (PG, EC 3.2.1.15) from Botryosphaeria dothidea, was purified from Botryosphaeria dothidea-infected apple (Malus domestica cv. Fuji) fruits. The purified apple PGIP had a molecular mass of 40 kDa. The N-terminal amino acid sequence of the purified protein showed high homologies to those of PGIP from pear (100%), tomato (70%), and bean (65%). We also purified polygalacturonase (PG) from B. dothidea. The PG hydrolyzes pectic components of plant cell walls. When the extracted apple pectic cell wall material was treated with purified apple PGIP and B. dothidea PG, the amount of uronic acid released was lower than that treated with B. dothidea PG alone. This result demonstrates that PGIP functions specifically by inhibiting cell wall maceration of B. dothidea PG Furthermore, we characterized the de novo function of the PGIP against PG on the solubilization and depolymerization of polyuronides from cell wall of apple fruits inoculated with B. dothidea. This result demonstrated that the PGIP of plants exhibits one of the direct defense mechanisms against pathogen attack by inhibiting PGs that are released from pathogens for hydrolysis of cell wall components of plants.
There are many methods to improve the performance of concrete. Especially, granuated blast furnace slag. by-products used in concrete as the replacement material of cement, could contribute to improve the fluidity, resistance of chemical attack and strength of concrete. Also, it could contribute to decrease the rate of generating hydration heat, in addition to cost-down of concrete and prevention of enviromental pollution. Therefore, in order to establish the systemical application of granuated blast furnace slag in normal concrete, the engineering properties of concrete, such as fluidity, strength, setting and hydration properties etc.. was evaluated. In this study, replacement ratio of granuated blast furnace slag was 0, 30, 50, 70(%), and target slump was 8, 12, 15, 18(cm). Results from the experiment, granuated blast furnace slag showed the outstanding effects of improving the engineering properties of concrete. From now on, positive application of granuated blast furnace slag is expected in the point of improving the performance and cost-down of concrete.

Polyethylene terephtahalate has been used in several areas such as fiber, film, bottle, and disposable products. Production of PET has been rapidly increasing these days. Since PET is a semi-permanent material, it has a non-biodegradable character in itself. Wasted PET products can cause serious environmental problems. Many countries around the world impose environmental legal restrictions over their abandonments. Many researches on the enviromental influence factors and treatment techniques of the wasted PET have been carried out. The main objective of this study is to develop a new sizing agent using recycling PET and improve its internal sizing effect. Dried powder of PET was used to make the modified PET. After extracting water-dispersible PET by subcritical hydrolysis, polyester resins have been extracted and triphenyl phosphate(TPP) has been added to obtain optimal internal sizing agent. It was found that the optimum dosage of TPP was 2% (per PET weight) and the hydrolysis temperature was independent on making the modified PET.

Recently, in order to satisfy the consumer's demand the life cycle and the lead-time of a product is to be shortened. It is thus important to reduce the time and cost in manufacturing trial products. Several techniques have been developed and successfully commercialized in the market RPM(Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing). However, most commercial systems currently use resins or waxes as the raw materials. So, the limited mechanical strength for functional testing is regarded as an obstacle towards broader application of rapid prototyping techniques. To overcome this problems, high-speed machining technology is being investigated worldwide for rapid manufacturing and even for direct rapid tooling application. In this paper, some fundamental experiments and analyses are carried out to obtain the filling time, materials, method, and process parameters for HisRP process. HisRP is a combination process using high-speed machining technology with automatic filling. In filling process, Bi58-Sn alloy is chosen because of the properties of los-melting point, low coefficient of thermal expansion and enviromental friendship. Also the use of filling wire is of advantage in term of simple and flexible mechanism. Then the rapid manufacturing product, for example a skull, is machined for aluminum material by HisRP process with an automatic set-up device of 4-faces machining.

ZnO is a promising material since it could be applied to many fields such as solar cells, laser diodes, thin films transistors and gas sensors. ZnO has a wide and direct band gap for about 3.37 eV at room temperature and a high exciton binding energy of 60 meV. In particular, ZnO features high sensitivity to toxic and combustible gas such as CO, NOX, so on. The development of gas sensors to monitor the toxic and combustible gases is imperative due to the concerns for enviromental pollution and the safety requirements for the industry. In this study, we investigated the effect of substrate temperature and post-annealing on structural and electrical properties of ZnO thin films. ZnO thin films were deposited by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) at various temperatures at from room temperature to $600^{\circ}C$. After that, post-annealing were performed at $600^{\circ}C$. To inspect the structural properties of the deposited ZnO thin films, X-ray diffraction (XRD) was carried out. For gas sensors, the morphology of the films is dominant factor since it is deeply related with the film surface area. Therefore, the atomic force microscopy (AFM) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) were used to observe the surface of the ZnO thin films. Furthermore, we analyzed the electrical properties by using a Hall measurement system.
