  • The objective of this study is to perform an analysis of the heat(heating and cooling) and lighting energy consumption according to the window area ratio and the application of horizontal louver, which is external shading device installed for the purpose of energy savings in office buildings. For this, a building was chosen as a typical example, and the heat and lighting energy consumption was calculated by using the daylight and building energy analysis simulation. The results showed that the total energy consumption, when the lighting control was applied, was reduced by an average of 11.49[%] compared to when there was no lighting control. The smaller the glazing ratio is, the less the total energy consumption is. Also, the application of the horizontal louver increases the total energy consumption under the same condition of glazing ratio.

  • Architectural utility in Richard Neutra's early twentieth century modern school design was paramount in progressively shaping salience of academic institutions, in part to move beyond neoclassical traditions in style based design. The intention being to address school and community through modern architectural solutions. Expanding on Neutra's practice, the planning and design of new public schools in Los Angeles, are advocating the integration of institutional and public spaces. This research will document through qualitative analysis of institutional design within transitioning neighborhoods, a utilitarian approach that has become foundational for positive urban change. The focus of this research will reflect upon contemporary schools designed by DalyGenik Architecture, Coop Himmelblau and Michael Maltzen Architecture. Comparing with Neutra's early modernist approach, the selected case studies will address material and spatial applications having redefined functional relationships of interior space, architectural envelope and an interconnected public realm. A dynamic peripheral condition in new school design has emerged with the elimination of decorative adornment, clarifying utilitarian intentions of institutional service to and the rejuvenation of public realms and community spaces.

  • Mechanism of formation of electroless composite coatings is similar to that of electrodeposited composite coating, but the amount of particles entraped in electroless coating is higher that the one of electrodeposited coatings. The methol of entrapment by the metal for SiC and Al2O3 particles is different from that for WC particles. In the former case the particles are gracually engulfed by the depositing metal, wheran with WC a metal envelope is rapidly fomed around each particles. This difference can be attributed to the difference in electrical resistivity of the particles. Inclusion density of SiC and Al2O3 particles during copeposition depend on the particle size, agitation condition, vabration conditions and electrolyte temperatures.

  • It is very important to determine the performance and operating envelope of engine for aircraft's flight. The basic performance is provided by manufacturer, but installed engine's operating envelop is only determined by flight test. First, this study was measured cylinder head temperature(CHT), exhaust gas temperature(EGT) and oil temperature. At pre-determined altitude and power rate, these temperatures were measured by change of mixture ratio and mixture ratio condition for economic operation and max. power were found. And secondly, with the measured temperatures, possible positions of mixture lever were determined by flight test for stable flight Chang-91 and Lycoming IO-360-A series four cylinders engine with 200 hp was used for this study.

  • In the present work, investigations by high frequency resonance technique for diagnosis of defect frequencies of linear motion unit are reported. Raw vibration signature of the moving parts at different speeds of operation has been demodulated. Envelope detected spectrum is analyzed to evaluate various defect frequencies and their energy levels. Experimentally evaluated frequencies are compared with theoretically determined defect frequencies. These frequency values and their energy levels are used to monitor intrinsic condition of linear motion unit as well as to establish severity of existing/developed defects on the LM guide and inside the LM block. Relative comparisons of linear motion units of the same type are made at various operating speeds under identical conditions of operation on the basis of identified defect frequencies and severity of defects.

  • This paper presents the analysis of the required limit on a multibeam active phased array antenna (APAA) aperture using the statistical simulation for a High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS). The simulation takes into account the random errors caused by the non-identity of the array elements and the inaccuracy of the antenna calibration. The results of our statistical simulation show that the strict requirements on the sidelobe envelope for HAPSs can be met when the amplitude and phase distribution errors are minor, a condition which may be achieved by using digital beam forming.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve of energy performance in school buildings. Many building renovations have mainly focused on commercial buildings and houses, but school buildings have no attention in this field although there are many buildings that show degraded energy performance and there are many old fashioned buildings which need renovation. This study was carried out through the survey, field study, energy simulation and life cycle cost analysis. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: In model building, large amount of heat were lost at the building envelope, such as non-insulated skins, window-sills and window-frame joints. According to the simulation result, about 15% of heating energy is saved by the insulating works compared to pre-renovation condition. Also, LCC analysis revealed to be more effective to select a exteria wall insulation such as a dryvit system.

  • Massive Population III black hole binary systems are one of the suggested candidate sources of the recently detected gravitational wave radiation (GWR). GWR detection from a black hole binary system requires a sufficiently short orbital separation at the time of their formation, such that they would undergo coalescence within the Hubble time. This condition cannot be simply fulfilled by a short initial period, because binary interactions such as mass transfer and common envelope evolution can largely change the orbital parameters and the masses of stellar components. Here, we discuss the possibility of black hole binary mergers from massive Pop III binary systems, using a new grid of Pop III binary evolutionary models with various initial primary masses ($20M_{\odot}{\leq}M{\leq}100M_{\odot}$) and initial separations, for different initial mass ratios (q = 0.5 - 0.9).

  • Empirical likelihood ratio method is a new technique in nonparametric inference developed by A. Owen (1988, 2001). Sometimes empirical likelihood has difficulties to define itself. As such a case in point, we discuss the way to define a modified empirical likelihood for the location of symmetry using well-known points of symmetry as a side conditions. The side condition of symmetry is defined through a finite subset of the infinite set of constraints. The modified empirical likelihood under symmetry studied in this paper is to construct a constrained parameter space $\theta+$ of distributions imposing known symmetry as side information. We show that the usual asymptotic theory (Wilks theorem) still hold for the empirical likelihood ratio on the constrained parameter space and the asymptotic distribution of the empirical NPMLE of difference of two symmetric points is obtained.

  • A fully integrated inductorless CMOS impulse radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) receiver is implemented using $0.18\;{\mu}m$ CMOS technology for 3-5 GHz application. The UWB receiver adopts the non-coherent architecture, which removes the complexity of RF architecture and reduces power consumption. The receiver consists of inductorless differential three stage LNA, envelope detector, variable gain amplifier (VGA), and comparator. The measured sensitivity is -70 dBm in the condition of 5 Mbps and BER of $10^{-3}$. The receiver chip size is only $1.8\;mm\;{\times}\;0.9\;mm$. The consumed current is 15 mA with 1.8 V supply.
