  • Youth unemployment including college graduates has become more serious in recent years. It is very necessary to study the factors affecting entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial intentions. These days, the number of female entrepreneurs has been increased dramatically. There have been many successful entrepreneurs with technology background in Korea. Until now, there have been not so many empirical studies examining moderating effects of gender and college major. A lot of studies have examined the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and entrepreneurial intention of college students. The purpose of this article is to examine gender and major as moderators in the relationship. Until now, there has been very few research investigating the moderating effects of gender and major on the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and entrepreneurial intention. Survey questionaries were given to 400 college students randomly chosen in Gangwon-do. Finally, 334 surveys were used to analyze the relationship. The findings of our study are as follows. First, similar to previous studies, entrepreneurial orientation of college students has a positive effect on entrepreneurial intention. Second, participation both in school entrepreneurship courses and out of school entrepreneurship education does positively affect entrepreneurial intention. Gender and major are moderating variables between entrepreneurial orientation and entrepreneurial intention. Third, compared to male students, female students with low entrepreneurial orientation show much lower entrepreneurial intention. Fourth, compared to Non-STEM students, STEM students with low entrepreneurial orientation show much lower entrepreneurial intention. Thus, in order to improve entrepreneurial intention among college students, it is very important to develop entrepreneurial orientation, especially for female and STEM college students.

Most of past researches are limited to the formation of entrepreneurial intention, and researches on entrepreneurial activities, specifically nascent entrepreneurial behavior, have not been studied well. In this study, we view entrepreneurial process as gestation process from entrepreneurial intention to nascent entrepreneurial activities, and identify the moderating effects of cognitive style, which is the way of thinking about the information in entrepreneurial process. In addition, we find the moderating effects of cognitive style on the relationships between perceived barriers and support in environmental factors and nascent entrepreneurial activities. Subjects of this study are potential entrepreneurs. So we selected university students who are taking venture start-up course, conducted a survey, collected 367 questionnaires. In statistical test, we applied PLS-SEM for testing hypotheses because CB-SEM is too sensitive to test more than two moderating effects in th research model. As a result of the analysis, it was found that entrepreneurial intention, cognitive planning style, cognitive creative style, perceived support had a significant effect on nascent entrepreneurial behavior. The results of the analysis of the moderating effects of cognitive style which are the hypotheses in the research are as follows. First, the cognitive planning style did not have a significant moderating effect on the relationship between entrepreneurial intention and nascent entrepreneurial activities. Second, in the relationship between perceived barriers and nascent entrepreneurial activity, cognitive planning style did not have significant moderating effect, and cognitive creating style had significant negative moderating effect. Third, in the relationship between perceive support and nascent entrepreneurial activity, cognitive planning style had significant positive moderating effect, and cognitive creating style did not have significant moderating effect.

  • A new business venture faces intense competition in a dynamic environment. To survive, new business ventures and established companies both need to generate creativity and significant new ventures to be highly competitive and have high levels of performance. In this study, we examined new business ventures that determined their competitiveness and performance generated from entrepreneurial creativity and mediated by ambidextrous innovation. This research used survey data collected from 143 Indonesian's new business shipping agencies, which was collected using an online survey and analyzed through structural equation modeling. The results showed that entrepreneurial creativity in new business ventures is positively associated with competitive advantage but not significant to create a competitive advantage. In contrast, entrepreneurial creativity is positively associated with firm performance. This result indicates that efforts to generate entrepreneurial creativity are not sufficient to create a competitive advantage despite having a significant influence on firm performance. However, entrepreneurial creativity is significantly and positively associated with firm performance and competitive advantage when mediated by ambidextrous innovation. The findings of this study suggest that the competitive advantage of a new business venture in facing intense competition in a dynamic environment condition can be overcome by generating strategic action in the form of entrepreneurial creativity and ambidextrous innovation.

  • This article provides a comprehensive review of the entrepreneurial university concept and its place and role in the triple helix of university, industry, and government. This is increasingly important because stake-holders' expectations towards universities are growing; this growth in turn leads to increased pressure on universities to move beyond their traditional roles and models towards taking responsibility for economic development, large scale basic education and targeted further education and the development of value from research. These expectations provide opportunities for universities, but impose threats on the existing models and practices. It further elaborates on implications for university management, departments, faculty members and supporting organizations. Moreover it reflects on the meaning of the entrepreneurial university for stakeholders, i.e., university boards, regional and national policy and administrative bodies, funding agencies, the business community, university ranking institutions and the global university community overall. Recent literature on entrepreneurial universities is incomplete and mostly focused on the commercialization of research, technology transfer and the third mission of universities. The article expands the predominant thinking about entrepreneurial universities and gives a broader structured definition. Eventually the article shows the need for STI policy to intervene and measures for developing entrepreneurial universities further.
