This study was performed to analyze the retarded degree of Garaetteok retrogradation added with different ratios 0-15% (w/w) of apple pomace dietary fiber powder (DFP). SEM (${\times}$500) showed that air cell size on the Garaetteok surface increased as DFP content increased, whereas control had a compact structure without air cells. The degrees of Garaetteok retrogradation after 3 days at 4 and 25$^{\circ}C$ by ${\alpha}$-amylase iodine method were 57.44 and 41.55% for control, respectively. On the other hand, those of 15% DFP Garaetteok were 28.38 and 15.05%, respectively. Enthalpy changes (${\Delta}$E) by DSC of control, 10 and 20% DFP Garaetteok after 3 days of storage at 4$^{\circ}C$ were 4.41, 4.17, and 3.80 J/g, respectively, whereas those at 25$^{\circ}C$ were 2.14, 1.04, and 0.72 J/g. Hardness of 15% DFP Garaetteok was around 48% compared to that of control after 3 days of storage at 25$^{\circ}C$. Increasing DFP content from 0 to 15% decreased L color value from 86.2 to 55.1, whereas a and b values increased from -1.9 to 8.9 and from 5.3 to 20.8, respectively. In a sensory intensity test, hardnesses of 15% DEP Garaetteok were significantly different at 1 and 0.1% compared to those of control after production and followed by storage for 3 days at 4$^{\circ}C$, respectively.

Small size ice-cream maker has two evaporators having different evaporating temperatures of $4^{\circ}C$ and $-8^{\circ}C$. In such case, ice-cream maker system design becomes complicated because multiple capillary tubes affects one another. In this study, performance analysis was conducted for the soft ice-cream maker having two evaporators operating at different temperatures. The compressor was analyzed using efficiency models, the capillary tube was modeled assuming one-dimensional flow, the condenser and the evaporators were modeld based on UA-LMTD method. The refrigeration cycle simulation program was developed applying the enthalpy, pressure and mass balance on each component. Comparison of the test data with the simulated results for R404A revealed that evaporator temperatures of refrigerator and freezer agreed within $3^{\circ}C$.

This study presents comparison of heat transfer and air side friction characteristics in a condenser condition of air conditioner between Louver fin-tube heat exchangers and aluminum parallel heat exchangers. All experiments are performed using an air-enthalpy type calorimeter, which is designed based on the method described in ASHRAE standards. The air velocities crossing the heat exchanger tubes are varied from 0.7 to 1.6 m/s with 0.3 m/s interval, maintaining air dry temperature and relative humidity at $20^{\circ}C$ and 60% respectively. Water temperature and flow rate inside the tube are $70^{\circ}C$ and 10 LPM, respectively. Experimental results show that the heat transfer performances of aluminum heat exchangers are 17-163% higher than those of Louver fin-tube heat exchangers based on the data per unit volume, mass, and heat transfer area, whereas air side pressure drops of aluminum heat exchangers are 19-81% lower.

Changes in retrogradation degree of nonwaxy milled rice cooked at different pressure and stored in electric rice cooker at $74^{\circ}C$ were investigated. The moisture contents of nonwaxy milled rice cooked at $1.0{\sim}1.9\;atm\;and\;1.2{\sim}1.5$ water/rice ratio were $59.9{\sim}64.3%$. When nonwaxy milled rice was cooked at high pressure, X-ray diffraction patterns of cooked rice exhibited the V-type having nearly no crystallinity. Retrogradation peak of cooked rice from DSC thermogram was observed in the temperature range of $41.9{\sim}62.4^{\circ}C$ and was not appeared in cooked rice above 1.5 atm. During storage at cooker for 24 hr, retrogradation enthalpy of cooked rice was increased and retrogradation peak was not appeared above 1.7 atm. In cooking and storage of cooked rice, retrogradation degree measured by ${\alpha}-amylase-iodine$ method in high pressure gelatinized samples was lower than that in low pressure gelatinized ones.
In this paper, the adsorption behavior and kinetic characteristics of cibacron brilliant red 3B-A from aqueous solution using granular activated carbon were investigated. The effect of various parameters such as adsorbent dose, pH, initial concentration, contact time and temperature on the adsorption system were studied. Base on the estimated Langmuir constant ($R_L$) and Freundlich constant (1/n), This process could be employed as effective treatment method. From the Temkin constant (B) and Dubinin-Radushkevich constant (E), This adsorption process is physical adsorption. From kinetic experiments, the adsorption process followed the pseudo second order model with good correlation. Base on the Gibbs free energy and enthalpy, the adsorption of cibacron brilliant red 3B-A onto granular activated carbon was physisorption and endothermic in nature.

The humidification of reactant gases is crucial for efficiently operating PEM (polymer electrolyte membrane) fuel cell systems and for improving the durability of these systems. The recycle of the energy and water vapor of exhaust gas improves the system performance especially in the case of automotive application. The available humidification methods are steam injection, nozzle spray, humidification by enthalpy wheel, membrane humidifier, etc. However, these methods do not satisfy certain requirements such as compact design, efficient operation and control. In this study, a hybrid humidification system consisting of a membrane humidifier and exhaust-air recirculation units was developed and the humidification performance of this hybrid humidifier was analyzed. Finally, a new practical method for optimal design of PEM-fuel-cell humidification system is proposed.
Adsorption characteristics of acid green 27 dye using activated carbon were investigated as function of adsorbent dose, pH, initial concentration, contact time and temperature. Freundlich isotherm explained adsorption of acid green 27 dye very well and Freundlich separation factors (1/n=0.293~0.387) were found that this process could be employed as effective treatment method. Kinetic studies showed that the kinetic data were well described by the pseudo second-order kinetic model. Pseudo second rate constant ($k_2$) decreased with the increase in initial acid green 27 concentration. Activation energy (10.457 kJ/mol) and enthalpy (79.946 kJ/mol) indicated that adsorption process was physisorption and endothermic. Since Gibbs free energy decreased with increasing temperature, spontaneity of adsorption reaction increased with increasing temperature in the temperature range of 298 K~318 K.

Background: The objective of this study was to make colloidal dispersions of the active compounds of radix of Angelica gigas Nakai that could be charaterized as nano-composites using hot melt extrusion (HME). Food grade hydrophilic polymer matrices were used to disperse these compound in aqueous media. Methods and Results: Extrudate solid formulations (ESFs) mediated by various HPMCs (hydroxypropyl methylcelluloses) and Na-Alg polymers made from ultrafine powder of the radix of Angelica gigas Nakai were developed through a physical crosslink method (HME) using an ionization agent (treatment with acetic acid) and different food grade polymers [HPMCs, such as HP55, CN40H, AN6 and sodium alignate (Na-Alg)]. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the amorphization of crystal compounds in the HP55-mediated extrudate solid formulation (HP55-ESF). Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis indicated a lower enthalpy (${\Delta}H=10.62J/g$) of glass transition temperature (Tg) in the HP55-ESF than in the other formulations. Infrared fourier transform spectroscopy (FT-IR) revealed that new functional groups were produced in the HP55-ESF. The content of phenolic compounds, flavonoid (including decursin and decursinol angelate) content, and antioxidant activity increased by 5, 10, and 2 times in the HP55-ESF, respectively. The production of water soluble (61.5%) nano-sized (323 nm) particles was achieved in the HP55-ESF. Conclusions: Nano-composites were developed herein utilizing melt-extruded solid dispersion technology, including food grade polymer enhanced nano dispersion (< 500 nm) of active compounds from the radix of Angelica gigas Nakai with enhanced solubility and bioavailability. These nano-composites of the radix of Angelica gigas Nakai can be developed and marketed as products with high therapeutic performance.
Polydentate Schiff base ligands 5-Br-BSDT(bis(5-bromosalicylaldehyde)diethylenetriamine) having $N_3O_2$ atoms, 5-Br-BSTT(bis(5-bromosalicylaldehyde)triethylenetetramine) having $N_3O_2$ atoms, 5-Br-BSTP(bis(5-bromosalicylaldehyde)tetraethylenepentamine) having $N_3O_2$ atoms were synthesized. Stability constants of the complexes between these ligands and the metal ions such as Cu(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) were measured in DMSO by a polarographic method. It was observed that all metal(II) ions employed in this study formed 1 : 1 complexes with Schiff base ligands. Stability constants for the ligands were in the order of Cu(II)>Ni(II)>Zn(II), and for complex formation were in the order of 5-Br-BSTP>5-Br-BSTT>5-Br-BSDT according to the increasing in the number of donor atoms. Both enthalpy and entropy changes are obtained in negative valves. Exothermicity for the complex formation indicated tight binding between the ligands and metal ions. The negative entropy change would be related to the fact that solvent molecules are strongly interacting with the metal complexes.

Estimations of the thermodynamic properties are made for the selected binary non-azeotropic refrigerant mixtures including R13B1/R114, R22/R114, R12/R114, R152a/R114, R13B1/R152a and R13B1/R12 using the Peng-Robinson equation of state and mixing rules. In this study, we find that the binary interaction coefficients for the above mixtures have an effect upon the vapor-liquid equilibria and the thermodynamic properties. As the binary interaction coefficient becomes larger, the deviation from the idealized model, say, Raoult`s rule, is obvious. A correlation is proposed to relate the binary interaction coefficient to the difference between the dipole moments op each pure refrigerant. Vapor-liquid equilibrium are also accurately estimated using the binary interaction coefficient. Pressure-enthalpy and temperature-entropy relations are plotted for a certain composition ratio of each refrigerant mixture. Results show that the estimating method in this study can be applied to the investigation of the thermodynamic properties for the binary non-azeotropic refrigerant mixtures.
