The purpose of this research is to improve the writing ability of students by an ideal test model of English writing based on strategies of procedural learning stages enhancing the level of students' writing ability. Assessment of writing in the field of English education has been limited so far to very restricted areas with no appropriate scientific scrutiny. Assessment is really meaningful only when it exactly estimates the ability of students. Since English writing competence has become indispensable in this era of global village, writing instruction should be most emphasized. The most forceful method of busting writing instruction is to utilize the so-called washback effect of testing. So, to develop a good test model of writing, the first thing that is required is to inspect writing strategy in steps and, then, testing itself. First of all, analyzed with a special reference to the 6th high school English curriculum were the goals and contents of the syllabus reflected in one kind of junior high textbook and eight different kinds of senior high textbooks. Then questionnaires on the whole area of writing and tendencies of English writing classes were given to 100 English teachers, 300 students. The results of questionnaires were statistically analyzed. Then, some suggestions and opinions about the questioning method were made: the procedural strategy in steps, English writing instruction and test model of assessment were applied to the syllabus referring to teaching plans. On the bases of the results of the questionnaires, three pretests and a final test of English writing were administered to verify the effect of enhanced English writing competence which had been gradually promoted and, through the promotion, produced the test criteria of English writing. In conclusion, guidance and evaluation of English writing through in steps are really indispensable to increase student's practical ability and, accordingly, we are in need of the development of a testing method of useful writing practiced in school class above anything else. So, it is necessary to further the study on methods to assess writing ability on the bases of participation and fluency of students with their keen interest in English. Also, to intensify the effect of the test model, more accommodating reorganization of syllabus is required in our education. For instance, we need a flexible operation in organizing time units from the current 50 minutes to 100-130 minutes.

제 2 외국어로서 영어를 배우는 학습자를 위한 효과적인 교수법에 대해 여러 이론에서 많은 학자들에 의해 연구되고 개발되어 왔다. 최근 너무 어린 나이에 영어를 교육하는 문제에 대한 찬반론이 제기되는 등 많은 논란이 제기되고 있으나 학생들의 흥미유발, 동기부여, 그리고 참여 학습의 중요성에 대해 모든 이론에서 인식을 같이 하고 있다. 특히 많은 시간을 인터넷에 투자하고 있는 학생들의 욕구를 반영하는 시대에 어울리는 교육방법이 제시되어져야 한다. 이러한 관점에서 본 연구에서는 인터넷을 이용한 웹기반 교육매체를 이용한 영어 듣기 온라인 교육을 오프라인상의 교육과 비교하고자 하였다. 인터넷을 활용한 온라인 교수법을 영어 듣기 학습에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위해 연구대상을 동등한 수준의 실험집단(experimental group)과 통제집단(controlled group)으로 구분하였다. 이 두 집단에 대한 실험을 실시한 결과를 기초하여 기존의 학습방법과 웹기반의 온라인 학습방법의 분석을 통해 교수법이 학생들의 수업 태도와 그 성취도에 있어서 많은 영향을 준다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 특히 온라인 학습방법에 대해 대체로 긍정적인 반응을 보였고 친구에게 권하고 싶다고 할 만큼 흥미를 보여주었다. 학습자의 수요와 관심에 부합되는 이러한 인터넷을 통한 온라인 교수법이 21세기의 새로운 학습방법의 모델로서 청소년의 현장 학습에 적용한다면 효과적인 학습방법이 될 것으로 기대된다.

학습자들은 기존의 전형적인 교재와 강의실을 통한 학습 방법보다는 e-teaming 같은 새로운 학습 방법을 선호하는 것으로 나타났다. 인터넷의 긍정적인 역할을 감안할 때, 외국어 학습에 멀티미디어 활용은 유용한 교수 방법이 될 것임에 틀림없다. 학습자가 언어 학습에서 시각적 자료의 활용을 선호한다는 점에서 멀티미디어를 이용한 E-learning은 영어 학습에 매우 중요한 교육 학습 방법이 될 수 있다. 이러한 장점은 언어 학습에서 학습자의 흥미를 유발하고 높은 학습 동기를 부여할 수 있다. 인터넷이나 웹을 통한 영어 학습의 장점은 컴퓨터의 다양한 멀티미디어 자료와 이러한 자료를 무한대로 반복재생 할 수 있어 반복 학습이 절대적인 영어 학습의 특성을 잘 적용할 수 있다. 본 연구에서 영어 학습에 필요한 네 가지 Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening을 중심으로 e-learning에서 멀티미디어를 활용하는 학습 방법에 대해 살펴보기로 한다.

Since Air and Correspondence High School (ACHS) in Korea was established in 1974, it has been serving many people who couldn't take the opportunities for learning in the regular high school due to several reasons. Regardless of the rapid change in technologies and educational needs during the past 31 years, however, ACHS hasn't changed much. Concerns have been recently made about the validity of the unchanged school system and many issues have been discussed relating to the innovation of the school system. Focusing on the teaching and learning contents, one of the important issues with respect to the school system, this paper examines the 7th English Curriculum for ACHS. The paper also investigates the textbooks used in ACHS to see how closely they align with the students' English proficiency and ACHS' instructional method by employing McDonough and Shaw's(1993) framework for textbook analysis. The results revealed that the current curriculum does not sufficiently reflect ACHS's characteristics, which leads to the adoption and development of inappropriate textbooks in terms of overall coherence, proficiency level, etc. The results suggest that the development of the curriculum and textbooks for ACHS should be based upon the students' needs and their level of proficiency rather than depending on the national curriculum and government-authorized textbooks intended for the relatively homogeneous school-age learners.

본 연구는 Keller의 ARCS 동기모델을 비즈니스 전공영어 수업에 적용하여 ARCS 모델이 학습동기와 학업성취도에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 조사하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 2018년과 2019년 2학기에 비즈니스 전공영어를 수강한 경영학 전공 27명 학생들을 대상으로 이루어졌다. 학습동기와 학업성취도를 분석하기 위해 설문조사와 필기시험 결과가 사용되었다. ARCS 모델을 적용한 실험집단과 전통적 강의식 수업이 이루어진 비교집단의 결과는 비즈니스 전공영어에 ARCS 모델을 적용한 교수·학습법이 학습 동기유발 요소인 주의집중, 관련성, 만족감, 자신감을 향상시키는 데 효과가 있으며 비즈니스 영어와 비즈니스 내용 두 영역의 학업성취도 향상에도 효과가 있음을 보여주었다. 본 연구는 학습자 수가 적은 비즈니스 전공영어 수업에서 ARCS 모델이 긍정적 효과를 나타낼 수 있음을 보여준 한 사례가 될 수 있다.

This paper investigated students' and teachers' attitudes toward L2 grammar in EFL learning context. In a study in which attitude was viewed as consisting of three different components such as cognitive, affective, and behavioral, questionnaire developed on the basis of such a view of attitude was used as a data collection method. The results of the study indicated that in general, both students and teachers were similar to each other in their attitude toward L2 grammar. Among the findings, most important, two groups were shown to fully understand the important role of grammar in L2 learning. Another finding was that despite the 6th national curriculum for English education, our English class was still dominated by grammar-centered instruction. Also it was shown that the way teachers had been taught L2 grammar had a considerable effect on the way they would instruct it in their future classes. Based on these findings, some suggestions were offered for effective grammar pedagogy in EFL context.

This paper aims to propose that Problem-Based Learning (PBL) is a method that can help meet the conditions in language learning and instruction. PBL was first used in medical education, where learners engaged in problem-solving activities that reflect the demands of real-life professional practice, thus promoting critical thinking in the content domain. The paper proposes that by applying PBL in language learning and creating situations in which learners work collaboratively on problems, the learners benefit in two respects: (i) they have the opportunity to practise the kind of thinking skills and problem-solving strategies needed in real life, and (ii) they engage in purposeful language activity with others through discussion and negotiation. The paper first provides a theoretical rationale far the use of PBL in language learning and suggests attendant changes in the role of a language instructor in a PBL context. The paper then presents an outline of the stages and components needed in designing an online PBL Unit far use in an undergraduate language class.

The purpose of this study is to investigate American traditional values and American culture in English education. The understanding of American culture in English education requires the analysis of world changes in the global age. The history of American English, the formation of American society, and the background of natural environment are described in relation to the traditional American values of the earliest settlers, such as multi-culture, individual freedom, frontier heritage in the West, equality of opportunity and wealth and material abundance. Hence the case studies of students' project presentations on the American culture in English education exemplify the reflection of American traditional values in the current American life and society. It is concluded that project-based method with regard to cultural studies in English education reveals very positive learning effects by driving students' interests and active participation through the student-centered, creative, and cooperative project presentations.

Purpose: An emerging trend in Asian higher education is English-medium instruction (EMI), which uses English as the primary instructional language. EMI prepares domestic students for international leadership; however, students report difficulty in learning, and educators have raised questions concerning the effectiveness of EMI. The flipped learning model (FLM), in which lecture and homework activities for a course are reversed, was applied to an English-medium course offered by a college of nursing in Korea. The aims of this study were to: 1) revise an existing English-medium nursing course using the FLM; 2) explore students' learning experiences and their acceptance of the FLM; and 3) identify key factors in the success of FLM. Methods: We used a descriptive, cross-sectional, mixed-methods design and the participants were students at one nursing school in Korea. A series of course development meetings with faculties from the nursing school and the center for teaching and learning were used to develop the course format and content. We conducted course evaluations using the Flipped Course Evaluation Questionnaire with open-ended questions and focus group interviews. Results: Students (N=75) in a 15-week nursing course responded to a survey after completing the course. Among them, seven students participated in one of two focus groups. Overall, students accepted and favored the flipped learning strategy, and indicated that the method enhanced lecture content and their understanding of it. Factors associated with effective instruction included structured monitoring systems and motivational environments. Conclusion: The FLM requires sufficient preparation to facilitate student motivation and maximize learning outcomes.

The purpose that the curriculum appropriate for the student's level pursues is to offer to a student the curriculum that can satisfy the student's interest, aptitude, and requirements. This curriculum has recently enforced all over the country, but the careful research and the plan for verification on its effect are required so that it may accomplish its purpose. This study, centered on the reading comprehension ability of Freshman English of the High School, aims to suggest a more desirable procedure for organizing and enforcing the curriculum appropriate for the students' level. In order to provide the best curriculum appropriate for the student's level. (1) the diagnosis of the individual student's level should be made first ; (2) the syllabus focused both on the grammar and on the communicative functions should be prepared ; (3) the teaching material on the basis of the syllabus should be selected considering the student's interest. and requirements. The new method of teaching-learning English should also be developed with the enforcement of the new curriculum discussed here. The curriculum appropriate for the student's level has many kinds of problems but these disadvantages should be overcome for providing the better educational system for the individual student.
