  • A new terphenylenevinylene carbazylenevinylene alternating copolymer with the advantage of poly(p-phenylenevinylene) (PPV), poly(p-phenylene )(PPP) and poly(carbazole) was designed, synthesized and characterized. The polymer structure was confirmed by various spectroscopic analyses and the number average molecular weight ($M_n$) of the obtained polymer was 7,800. The resulting polymer was thermally stable with high glass transition temperature ($T_g$) ($150^{\circ}C$), and was readily soluble in common organic solvents. Cyclic voltammetry study revealed that the HOMO and LUMO energy levels of the polymer were 5.37 and 2.47 eV, respectively. The ITO/PEDOT/polymer/AI device fabricated from the polymer emitted bright sky blue light with a maximum peak of around 478 nm. The device showed the maximum brightness of 1,200 nW with a turn-on voltage of 7V.

  • The most commercially and academically advanced catalysts of late transition metals are diimine complexes based on Pd(II)/Ni(II) and bis(imino)pyridyl complexes based on Fe(II)/Co(II). It is well known that the former systems yield branched polyethylenes and the latter linear PEs. In this presentation, effect of extremely bulky ligands with electron withdrawing/donating substituents at a remote position from Ni(II) metal center and of using multi-nuclear homo or hetero multi-metal on the ethylene polymerization is to be paged.

  • The patterned vertical alignment (PVA) display showed good electro-optic properties such as wide viewing angle, fast response time, high Contrast Ratio. However, the device has patterned electrode on both top and bottom electrodes which requires high accuracy of assembling of top and bottom substrates in order to exhibit a high performance. So, they have disadvantage about low yield. In order to resolve these problem, in this paper, we studied about top substrate pattern free vertical alignment device associated with surface polymer stabilization using the UV curable monomer. This method shows simple progress, low cost and good electro-optic properties such as high transmittance and fast response time.

  • A novel acrylol borate was designed and synthesized by reacting acrylate monomer and boric acid. The obtained acrylol borate was used as both gelator and anion receptor for the liquid electrolyte in a lithium secondary battery. It was found that the ionic conductivity of the gel polymer electrolyte (GPE) was as high as that of the liquid electrolyte, and the thermal stability of GPE was increased when only 2 wt% acrylol borate was incorporated into the liquid electrolyte. These results suggest that acrylol borate can be used as an effective additive to enhance the thermal stability of the electrolyte without adversely affecting its conductivity. It is believed that the strong complex formation between boron in the gelator and the anion of the salt is responsible for the enhanced thermal stability of the electrolyte solution and the increased ionic conductivity.
