공대 여학생의 남자교수 상담에 대한 만족도와 요구도 (Satisfaction and Needs of Female Students in Engineering with Counseling Men Professors)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the satisfaction and needs of female students in Engineering with counseling male professor. Subjects of this study were 92 female students in Engineering from a university in K city. Results of survey showed that women students in Engineering were most satisfied with the usefulness of counseling and next with male professor's attitude as counselor. Counseling needs of female students in Engineering was highest on receiving concrete information on finding a job from counseling and next to it on understanding women students. Results of focus group interview and suggestions for the study in the future were presented respectively.

우수한 공대생의 교육 활동 참여 분석: 개인투자이론을 기초로 (An Analysis on Educational Experience of Competent Engineering Students based on Personal Investment Theory)

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the educational experiences of competent engineering students and finding the reason why they invest their time and efforts engaging in school activities. Five students with high GPA, high K-CESA scores and successful employment or entrance test scores, participated in the survey and the interview. In checking their responses, their activities' records were gathered from school DB. According to the modified framework based on the personal investment theory, the interviews, survey and DB records were analyzed on the sense of self, the social cultural environment, and pattern of behaviors in schools. The competent engineering students are able to manage themselves, in maintaining a good relationship with the collegiate, and in having high self-efficiency. They also tend to put effort into their studies and participate in inbound and outbound school activities. At the last part, freshmen foundation, relationship within college, students' activity related future career, economic stability during studies are suggested for supporting students in universities.

공대 여학생의 전공 관련 심리적 특성의 탐색 (Examination of Psychological Correlates of Woman Engineering Students)

  • 국내 공과대학 여자 졸업생의 전공분야 진출이 낮은 원인을 탐색하기 위하여 공과대학 여학생의 전공진로 장벽과 관련된 심리적 특성을 파악하고 이를 남학생과 비교하였다. 전국 8개 대학 1,968명의 남 여학생을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 전공에 대한 가치와 기대, 열망, 만족도 및 자기 효능감을 조사하였고 이러한 심리적 특성들이 대학 경험을 통해 어떻게 변화하는지를 조사하기 위하여 학년에 따라 그 수준을 비교하였다. 그 결과 전공에 대한 가치에 대해서는 남 여 학생간의 뚜렷한 성차가 발견되지 않았으나 기대, 열망, 만족도 및 자기 효능감 등을 비롯한 대부분의 전공 관련 심리적 특성에서 여학생들이 남학생들에 비해 낮음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 남학생들의 경우 전공에 대한 기대, 열망, 만족도, 자기효능감 등이 공과대학 경험과 교육을 통해, 학년이 증가 할수록 일관되게 증가하는 반면 여학생들의 경우 거의 변화하지 않거나 오히려 낮아지는 경향을 보였다. 따라서 이와 같은 공대 여학생들의 심리적 특성을 개선하기 위한 교육 환경 개선 노력이 제안되었다.

공학 전공 대학생의 창의성에 나타나는 성차 (Differences of Creativity in Engineering Students by Gender)

  • Recently, it has been emphasized that more girls should be able to contribute to society in the engineering field. However, there is little research for understanding the psychological characteristics of female engineering students. We first must understand their capabilities in order to take advantage of the strengths of female engineering college students. Based on this understanding, it is necessary to provide future educational interventions for them. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the gender differences in creativity in engineering education. Additionally, we wanted to know whether the differences were domain-specific or domain-general differences. For this, we targeted 351 engineering students in Busan and Daegu. An integrated creativity test and engineering creativity test were carried out. It was found that female engineering students had lower scores on both the integrated creativity and engineering creativity tests than male students. These results suggest that we should develop and apply appropriate strategies to enhance the creativity of female students in engineering education.

공과대학 여학생의 전공만족과 심리적 안녕감과의 관계 탐색 (Exploring the Relationships between Major Satisfaction and Psychological Well-being of Female Engineering Students)

  • This research aims to examine the relationship between major satisfaction and psychological well-being of female engineering students. To achieve this goal, first, differences in major satisfaction and psychological well-being among engineering students were examined. Second, differences in major satisfaction and psychological well-being among female undergraduate students were investigated. In addition, the effects of psychological well-being, as perceived by undergraduate students by gender and major, on major satisfaction were explored. A total of three hundred and forty-nine (349) undergraduate students from two universities in Korea responded to survey based on a two-variables scale. The findings were that, firstly, male engineering students scored higher in two variables including their most sub-factors, and that gender differences in relation satisfaction as well as positive relationship with others, autonomy, and environmental mastery were statistically significant. Secondly, female engineering students scored higher in major satisfaction and several sub-factors of two variables, and that major differences in major satisfaction (total), social perception satisfaction, and autonomy - a sub-factor of psychological well-being - were statistically significant. Thirdly, a positive correlation among major satisfaction and psychological well-being was identified. Finally, psychological well-being could explain about 19% of major satisfaction. The practical implications of these findings are discussed herein, with attention on education for promotion of major satisfaction.

특허 출원서를 활용한 공학 계열 기술적 글쓰기 수업 사례 (A Study on Technical Writing Instruction in Engineering Education Using Patent Application Form)

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop a technical writing model suitable for engineering students based on the practice of technical writing using the patent application form for engineering students. The Dick & Carey model was used to design the teaching of technical writing using the patent application form. In particular, the instructor communicates with the learner and instructs the learner to produce and express students' own ideas. Instruction design in technical writing progresses consists of four steps, such as creating ideas by brainstorming, comprising contents, exercising writing, and feedback. Feedback occurs between an instructor and a learner and also does among students. As writing is proceeding step by step, instruction design for technical writing should come forth with specific methods to make students practice writing in work. Following these steps will help engineering school students to make up new products after graduating university.

공과대학 학생들의 창의성교육에 관한 인식 (College of Engineering Students' Perception on Creativity Education)

  • There have been various educational approaches to foster students' creativity in engineering colleges, but little has been conducted based on empirical study results of students' perception on creativity education. This study aims to explore the students' perception on creativity in engineering such as characteristics of creative engineers, the level of individual or group creativity and creative education in engineering colleges. According to the survey results of 538 respondents, engineering students considered three factors such as 'innovative driven', 'eager for high intellectuality', 'activity expression' as characteristics of creative engineer. They evaluated both of individual or group creativity levels as subnormal. They perceived the importance of creativity education, but were not satisfied with current creativity educational experiences. They pointed out 'limited supports of nation or organization', 'credit system decided by the paper-based exam', 'non-systematized creativity classes' as impending factors for creativity in engineering education. Students suggested 'securing the budget for practice and field participation', 'changing of perception on creativity education itself', 'developing the creativity classes combined with engineering subjects' as fostering factors in creativity education. This studdy suggests several implications of educational approaches to creativity education in engineering colleges.

공과대학생의 자기조절학습전략이 쓰기효능감, 쓰기피드백인식, 학습실재감에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Engineering Students' Self-Regulated Learning Strategies on Writing Self-Efficacy, Perceptions of Writing Feedback and Learning Presence)

  • This research aims to examine the effects of engineering students' self-regulated learning strategies on writing self-efficacy, perceptions of writing feedback, and learning presence. To achieve this purpose, firstly, differences in self-regulated learning strategies, writing self-efficacy, perceptions of writing feedback, and learning presence were investigated among engineering and non-engineering students. Secondly, the effects of self-regulated learning strategies, as perceived by engineering students, on writing self-efficacy, perceptions of writing feedback, and learning presence were explored. A total of 196 engineering and non-engineering students from one university in Korea responded to a survey based on a four-variable scale. The findings were as follows: firstly, there were significant differences in self-regulated learning strategies, writing self-efficacy, perceptions of writing feedback, and learning presence by major. Secondly, positive correlations between self-regulated learning strategies, writing self-efficacy, perceptions of writing feedback, and learning presence were identified in terms of sub-factors of those variables. Thirdly, engineering students' self-regulated learning strategies predicted writing self-efficacy, perceptions of writing feedback, and learning presence. The practical implications of these findings are discussed herein, with particular attention to education for the promotion of self-regulated learning strategies and their application to writing courses, as well as diverse learning environments.

Shu-gyo-ryoku: An Academic and Career Skills' Enhancement Program for Engineering Students at Gunma University

  • Shu-gyo-ryoku, a program to enhance students' academic and career skills, was begun in the academic year 2011. Under the new program, "Career Planning" and "Career Design" were introduced as part of the liberal arts education for incoming freshmen. Approximately 500 students majoring in engineering enrolled in "Career Planning" in which they study a "curriculum map" and how it relates to their future fields of employment. The curriculum map illustrates the connections between classes and increases students'understanding of the curriculum structure. In small groups, students discussed the curriculum in order to develop sketches of their career paths. In addition, students answered a career anchor test and though several communicative activities, improved their communication skills. A portfolio system was built into the university network to record the learning history of each student. Students are able to check their learning histories and reflect on the change in themselves during their academic careers.

공학전공 대학생의 AI 로봇에 대한 윤리적 민감성 (Engineering Students' Ethical Sensitivity on Artificial Intelligence Robots)

  • This study evaluated the engineering students' ethical sensitivity to an AI emotion recognition robot scenario and explored its characteristics. For data collection, 54 students (27 majoring in Convergence Electronic Engineering and 27 majoring in Computer Software) were asked to list five factors regarding the AI robot scenario. For the analysis of ethical sensitivity, it was checked whether the students acknowledged the AI ethical principles in the AI robot scenario, such as safety, controllability, fairness, accountability, and transparency. We also categorized students' levels as either informed or naive based on whether or not they infer specific situations and diverse outcomes and feel a responsibility to take action as engineers. As a result, 40.0% of students' responses contained the AI ethical principles. These include safety 57.1%, controllability 10.7%, fairness 20.5%, accountability 11.6%, and transparency 0.0%. More students demonstrated ethical sensitivity at a naive level (76.8%) rather than at the informed level (23.2%). This study has implications for presenting an ethical sensitivity evaluation tool that can be utilized professionally in educational fields and applying it to engineering students to illustrate specific cases with varying levels of ethical sensitivity.
