Study on Characteristics of Car Air-con Compressor Under Bench System Fuel Economy Simulation Condition (벤치 연비 모사 조건에서 차량용 에어컨 압축기의 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, an experiment on an air conditioning test bench was performed to verify the possibility of fuel economy simulation for the SC03 mode, North America fuel economy certification mode with a/c on condition, one of the vehicle fuel economy evaluation modes. The air conditioning test bench used in this study had each chamber simulating the actual vehicle air conditioning system and the controlling temperature, humidity, and air flow velocity to reproduce environmental conditions. Reliable results were obtained about the compressor RPM and inlet air velocity in front of the condenser corresponding to vehicle speed and air velocity in front of the vehicle, respectively, in the simulation of the SC03 mode, previously performed in CWT, in an air conditioning test bench. It was also discovered that there was a distinct difference in the fuel economy depending on the difference in the compressor displacement in the simulation test of the SC03 mode in the air conditioning test bench under various displacement conditions of the compressor.

A Study on the development of the road to local economy (도로성장과 지역경제에 관한 고찰)

  • A road is an infrastructure that helps boost up growth of local economy, connections among local communities and living conditions. For South Korea the increase in infrastructures like roads now concentrates on specific regions, which causes regional imbalance. also, some areas are faced with the overall weakness of local economy such as decrease in local tax revenues, slowdown in industrial and economic growth of regions, and the low independence of local finances because lack of roads, a basis of local economic growth, make big and smaller business reluctant to invest in localities. In addition, even though the power-centralized age turns to a decentralized age, the preference of development policies by the existing economic size rather than those of nationwide balanced development gets the economic gap of localities deeply-rooted; moreover, disparity of local wealth has a tendency to even differentiate the overall quality of living. The paper intends to analyze relations between road development and local economy focused on road construction, one of requisites to balance national development and accelerate local economy.

  • In this study, the effects of the compressor for the air conditioning system on the fuel economy were experimentally investigated in an actual automobile. This study aims to analyze the level of contribution of the driving torque of the compressor to the fuel economy. A torque sensor, which is directly set on the clutch of the compressor, is developed to obtain data about the compressor load, which influences the fuel efficiency, and then, the reliability of the torque sensor is verified by comparing the results with those of a torque meter in a bench test. An actual automobile equipped with the compressor and torque sensor is operated in a climate wind tunnel in which appropriate facilities are set up to evaluate the fuel efficiency. The compressor driving torque resulting from the difference in the compressor displacement is found to influence the fuel economy, and the fuel economy is found to be worsened by up to 2~3% with an around 11% increase in the compressor displacement under the same conditions.

Fuel Economy Improvement Cruise Control Algorithm using Distance and Altitude Data of GPS in Expressway (고속도로에서 GPS 거리와 고도데이터를 이용한 연비 향상 정속 순항 제어 알고리즘)

  • A vehicle fuel economy is very important issue in view of fuel cost and environmental regulation. It has been improved according to the performance improvement of the vehicle engine, power train and many components. It was evaluated at given mode (LA-4, FTP-75, etc) on an engine dynamometer or computer simulation program. In this paper, the fuel economy improvement cruise control algorithms as controling a vehicle velocity by road load calculated and predicted in a real expressway with gradient was studied. Firstly, the altitude and distance data which was measured with GPS sensor was already installed in the ECU of a vehicle. Then the vehicle equipped with GPS receiver is driven the same expressway. The ECU calculates the gradient angle and the in-/decreasing velocity using the gradient angle by comparing the current received distance and altitude data from GPS with the saved data ahead of the vehicle. Therefore the ECU can calculate and predict the vehicle velocity considering tolerance velocity of next position with running. Then the ECU controls the vehicle velocity to meet this predicted velocity in all section. Three cruise control algorithms with the different velocity profiles for the improvement of fuel economy are proposed and compared with the computer simulation results that the vehicle runs on Youngdong expressway. The proposed CVELCONT2 and CVELCONT3 algorithms were improved 3.7% and 4.8% of fuel economy compared with CONSTVEL which is steady cruising algorithm. These two algorithms are recommended as the Eco-cruise drive methodologies in this paper.

  • The hybrid electric powertrain is a robust solution that allows for major improvements in both fuel economy and emission reduction. In the present study, a through-the-road hybrid vehicle model with an electric motor driving the rear axle and an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) driving the front axle has been constructed. We then present a systematic method for the determination of a real time applicable optimal Energy Management Strategy (EMS) for a hybrid road vehicle. More precisely, we compare the performance of rule-based EMS strategies to an optimization-based strategy, namely ECMS (Equivalent Consumption Minimization Strategy). The comparison is conducted in parallel with a parameterization of the size of the internal combustion engine and the implementation of a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that allows following the line of best fuel economy. For the FTP-75 driving cycle, the constrained engine On-off control algorithm is shown to offer a 28% improvement potential of fuel consumption compared to the conventional internal combustion engine while the ECMS strategy achieves an improved potential of nearly 33%.

CVT Ratio Control for Improvement of Fuel Economy by Considering Powertrain Response Lag

  • A high level CVT ratio control algorithm is proposed to improve the engine performance by considering the powertrain response lag. In this algorithm, the desired CVT speed ratio is modified from the vehicle velocity, which is estimated after the time delay due to the powertrain response lag. In addition, the acceleration map is constructed to estimate the vehicle acceleration from the throttle pedal position and the CVT ratio. Using the CVT ratio control algorithm and the acceleration map, vehicle performance simulations are performed to evaluate the engine performance and fuel economy. It is found that the fuel economy can be improved about 3.6% for FUDS by the ratio control algorithm for the target vehicle. In selecting the appropriate time delay, compromise between the fuel economy and the acceleration performance is required.

Classifying and Analyzing the Creative Employment in Korea (창조 일자리 분류체계 및 추세분석)

  • The objective of this study is developing a classification scheme of the creative employment and analyzing trends of the creative employment in Korea. Many countries have pursued the creative economy to generate new jobs and tried to estimate the creative employment as a way to measure the creative economy. However, the definition of the creative employment is still ambiguous partly because it depends on the characteristics of diverse industries and the direction of economic policies that each country has. Therefore, we propose a classification scheme of the creative employment, which reflects the creative economy in Korea. Then, we examine how the creative employment changes in Korea. Our results show that the jobs requiring the highest level of creative skills increase stably and steadily over the years.

Characteristics of fuel economy and emissions of soft and hard type hybrid vehicles (소프트 타입과 하드타입 하이브리드자동차의 연비 및 배출가스 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This paper describes the characteristics of emissions and fuel economy of soft type hybrid vehicle (Hyundai Avante) and hard type hybrid vehicle(Toyoda, Prius) in a transient CVS-75 driving mode. Hybrid vehicles showed the better fuel economy and emission characteristics comparing the conventional gasoline vehicle. Especially, hard type hybrid vehicle showed the better fuel economy comparing soft type hybrid vehicle under 55 km/h periods in the CVS-75 mode.

Air Pollutant Reduction Effect on Road Mobility in Hydrogen Economy Era (수소경제 활성화 로드맵 달성에 따른 교통 부문의 대기오염원 저감 효과 분석)

  • This study evaluated the effect of improving the atmospheric environment based on the premise that the supply of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (HFCV) will be achieved as many as the number of vehicles presented in the hydrogen economy activation roadmap announced by the Korean government in January 2019. The HFCV supply target (2.7 million passenger cars) suggested in the hydrogen economy revitalization roadmap was logically allocated to the five major metropolitan areas in Korea. Air pollution damage costs by region were calculated by reflecting the basic unit of damage cost to the estimated air pollutant emissions. As a result, it was confirmed that the benefits per unit of some cities in Gyeonggi-do were derived more than major cities in the metropolitan area.
