Study on System Support for Offshore Plant Piping Process Using 3D Simulator

  • An offshore plant is an offshore platform that can process oil and gas resources in rough seas with a poor working environment. Moreover, it is a complex structure with different types of offshore facilities and a large amount of outfitting that connects different offshore installations. In particular, an enormous amount of various piping materials is installed in a relatively narrow space, and thus, the difficulty of working is relatively high compared to working in ships or ground plants. Generally, when the 3D detailed design is completed, an offshore plant piping process is carried out at the shipyard with ISO 2D fabrication drawings and ISO 2D installation drawings. If a worker wants to understand the three-dimensional piping composition in the working area, he can only use three-dimensional viewers that provide limited functionality. As offshore plant construction progresses, correlating work with predecessors becomes more complicated and rework occurs because of frequent design changes. This viewer function makes it difficult to identify the 3D piping structure of the urgently needed part. This study deals with the process support method based on a system using a 3D simulator to improve the efficiency of the piping process. The 3D simulator is based on the Unity3D engine and can be simulated by considering the classification and priority of 3D models by the piping process in the system. Further, it makes it possible to visualize progress information of the process. In addition, the punch content can be displayed on the 3D model after the pipe inspection. Finally, in supporting the data in relation to the piping process, it is considered that 3D-simulator-supported piping installing could improve the work efficiency by more than 99% compared to the existing method.

Comparison of Source Apportionment of PM2.5 Using PMF2 and EPA PMF Version 2

  • The positive matrix factorization (PMF2) and multilinear engine (ME2) models have been shown to be powerful environmental analysis techniques and have been successfully applied to the assessment of ambient particulate matter (PM) source contributions. Because these models are difficult to apply practically, the US EPA developed a more user-friendly version of the PMF. The initial version of the EPA PMF model does not provide any rotational capabilities; for this reason, the model was upgraded to include rotational functions in the EPA PMF ver. 2.0. In this study, PMF and EPA PMF modeling identified ten particulate matter sources including secondary sulfate I, vehicle gasoline, secondary sulfate II, secondary nitrate, secondary sulfate III, incinerators, aged sea salt, airborne soil particles, oil combustion, and diesel emissions. All of the source profiles determined by the two models showed excellent agreement. The calculated average concentrations of $PM_{2.5}$ were consistent between the PMF2 and EPA PMF ($17.94{\pm}0.30{\mu}g/m^3$ and $17.94{\pm}0.30\;{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively). Also, each set of estimated source contributions of the PMF2 and EPA PMF showed good agreement. The results from the new EPA PMF version applying rotational functions were consistent with those of PMF2. Therefore, the updated version of EPA PMF with rotational capabilities will provide more reasonable solutions compared with those of PMF2 and can be more widely applied to air quality management.

  • High oil price and global warming problem are being continued all over the world. For this reason, fuel economy and emission of greenhouse gas are regulated by law in many countries. Therefore many companies are researching and producing hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) which substitute conventional internal combustion engine vehicle. However, these researches and productions are restricted to mainly passenger cars. Because of cost and physical problems, commercial vehicles are difficult to evaluate fuel economy. So simulations are important and it is necessary to know how sensitive parameters that enter into simulation affect. In this paper, forward simulations using AVL Cruise were conducted for analysis of fuel economy for parallel hybrid bus and were repeated by changing each parameter. Based on these results, root mean square errors (RMSE) are calculated for analysis of fuel economy sensitivity. The number of target parameters are 15. These parameters were classified with high and low sensitivity parameter relatively.

조업성능 향상을 위한 선망선 개선 (Remodeling of tuna purse seiner for improving fishing performance)

  • In an attempt to respond to the increase in international oil prices and reduce operating expenses, ship remodeling was carried out on a 740ton class tuna purse seiner. To strengthen the competitiveness of the fisheries industry by improving vessel performance, a bulbous bow was newly equipped. The slipway and rudder area were also lengthened and enlarged with the propeller and main engine remained unchanged. To reduce the hull resistance, a circle type bulbous bow was attached on the hull behind bow thruster and thus the cost for exchanging electrical equipment for bow thruster was reduced. The new rudder area was expanded 15% more than the old one within the extent that the existing mechanical control part and rudder stock were not changed. To prevent fishing net damage and stabilize wake field, slipway was lengthened to the optimal position. All of the new design of remodeling parts went through the model tests in towing tank and CWC. Besides resistance test, all of necessary model test results were delivered for hydrodynamic character for the modified ship. The maneuvering simulation to verify that the remodeled ship satisfies the IMO rules was performed in both zigzag and turning tests. The estimated resistance with new bulbous bow and lengthened stern was reduced by 4.8% in the 2-dimensional analysis and 17.4% in the 3-dimensional analysis in comparison of conventional ship. The average reduction of resistance was estimated about 10%. Maneuvering character of modified hull form was found to satisfy all regulations under IMO. The remodeling of tuna purse seiner can not only improve fishing performance but also contribute to reduction of operating cost by saving energy for the fisheries industry.

상용부동액 종류에 따른 자동차 배출가스의 실험적 연구 (According to the type of commercial antifreeze experimental study of vehicle emissions)

  • 자동차 배출가스는 자동차에 의해 발생되는 일산화탄소, 탄화수소, 납 외에 사람의 건강 또는 생활 환경에 피해를 일으킬 염려가 있는 물질을 말한다. 배출가스를 감소시키기 위해서 다양한 기술을 개발하는 것도 중요하지만 현재 사용되어 지고 있는 요소를 분석하여 최적의 상태를 찾는 것도 중요한 사항이라 여겨진다. 본 연구는 냉각수에 함유되는 부동액이 배출가스에 영향을 미칠 수 있음에 착안하여 현재 국내에서 시판되고 있는 5개 회사제품의 부동액을 권고 수준의 양을 냉각수에 함유시켜 HC, NOx, $CO_2$ 배출량을 측정하고 배출가스에 미치는 영향을 파악하고자 하였다. 또한, 5개회사 부동액 제품에 대하여 냉각팬 구동시간과 NOx 배출량과의 상관관계를 살펴보고자 하였다. 엔진오일의 온도는 자동차 검사 규격에 맞도록 $90{\sim}93^{\circ}C$에 맞추었고, 수동기어를 사용하는 소형승용차의 검사 규격 속도 $40{\pm}2Km/h$에서 수행하였다. 실험결과 D사 부동액이 팬 작동시간이 가장 짧고, $CO_2$, NOx 배출량이 가장 적게 나타났다.

독일 루르지역의 도시재생정책: 오버하우젠시와 겔젠키르헨시를 사례로 (Urban Revitalization Policies of the Ruhr Area, Germany: Case Studies on the Cities of Oberhausen and Gelsenkirchen)

  • 독일 북서부에 위치한 루르지역은 1850년대부터 석탄이 채굴되면서 석탄광업과 제철공업을 중심으로 유럽 최대의 공업지역으로 발전하였다. 그러나 1950년대에 접어들면서 에너지원으로써 유류(Oil)에 비해 석탄의 가격과 품질 경쟁력이 떨어졌고 개발도상국의 부상에 따라 이 지역의 석탄광업과 제철공업이 쇠퇴하기 시작하였다. 1970년대 부터 석탄광구와 제철공장이 하나씩 폐쇄되기 시작하여 도심에 조성된 많은 공업용지가 유휴화 되었고 실업자도 크게 늘어 심각한 경제위기에 직면하였다. 루르지역의 전형적인 공업도시라 할 수 있는 오버하우젠(Oberhausen)시는 이러한 문제에 당면하여 대규모 제철공장부지를 정화하여 거대한 쇼핑몰과 여가산업지구를 조성하였고, 겔젠키르헨(Gelsenkirhen)시는 석탄광업지구를 정화하여 태양광 산업을 중심으로 신재생에너지 산업단지와 친환경 주택단지를 조성하였다. 본 연구는 경로의존론(Path Dependence Theory)에 입각하여 이 두 도시가 추진한 도시재생정책의 집행과정과 결과를 분석하고, 이론적, 정책적 시사점을 도출하였다.

디스크 회전각에 따른 버터플라이 밸브 하류에서의 유동특성 (Flow Characteristics in the Downstream Region of a Butterfly Valve with Various Disk Opening Angle)

  • 버터플라이 밸브는 선박에서 냉각수와 유류 계통 등에 범용으로 널리 사용되고 있다. 이 연구에서는 유량조정에 따른 배관계통의 버터플라이밸브 후류 유동특성을 규명하기 위하여 입자영상 유속측정장치를 이용하여 밸브개도에 따른 유선과 속도벡터 분포에 관한 정량적인 데이터를 확보하였다. 또한 밸브 주위 유동장의 압력성분을 고찰하기 위하여 개폐각도를 6가지 경우로 변화시켜 정압을 측정하였다. 그 결과 실험관 벽면에서 측정된 압력의 분포는 디스크가 전개 상태인 $0^{\circ}$에서 $45^{\circ}$까지는 입구 압력은 일정한 상태로 거의 변화하지 않았으나 약 $60^{\circ}$ 이상에서부터 압력 상승과 점차 급격한 변동현상이 나타났다. 특히, $75^{\circ}$ 부근에서는 상류에서 급격한 압력 상승 경향을 보인 반면 하류 측은 압력변동이 적게 나타났다.

공동현상 가시화 실험을 통한 절환밸브 바텀플러그 형상 최적화 (Cavitation Visualization Test for Shape Optimization of Bottom Plug in Reversing Valve)

  • 자동차 엔진과 변속기 블록 등의 가공과정에서 잔류하는 기름때를 제거하기 위한 부품 세척장비는 정교한 제어장치 없이도 정확한 수류방향 절환이 원활히 이루지는 3 방향 절환밸브를 사용한다. 그러나, 밸브의 복잡한 유로 및 바텀플러그 형상으로 인해 유속변화가 심하게 발생하여 공동현상이 나타날 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 3 방향 절환밸브 내의 유동특성을 해석적으로 평가하였으며, 바텀플러그 하부에서 나타나는 공동현상을 공동화지표와 POC(Percent of cavitation)를 도입하여 정량화하였다. 공동현상의 저감을 위해 바텀플러그 형상을 매개변수화하고, 해석의 수렴성 개선과 해석시간을 단축시킬 수 있는 단순 유한요소모델을 이용하여 유동해석을 통한 형상최적설계를 실시하였다. 또한, 연구팀에서 보유하고 있는 유동시험설비와 ISA-RP75.23 규격에 맞게 제작된 시편을 이용하여 공동현상 가시화 실험을 실시하여 해석결과를 검증하였다.

Pilot 규모 산성가스 제거공정 운전 특성 (Operation Characteristics of Pilot-scale Acid Gas Removal Process)

  • The gasification technology is a very flexible and versatile technology to produce a wide variety products such as electricity, steam, hydrogen, Fisher-Tropsch(FT) diesels, Dimethyl Ether(DME), methanol and SNG(Synthetic Natural Gas) with near-zero pollutant emissions. Gasification converts coal and other low-grade feedstocks such as biomass, wastes, residual oil, petroleum coke, etc. to a very clean and usable syngas. Syngas is produced from gasifier including CO, $H_2$, $CO_2$, $N_2$, particulates and smaller quantities of $CH_4$, $NH_3$, $H_2S$, COS and etc. After removing pollutants, syngas can be variously used in energy and environment fields. The pilot-scale coal gasification system has been operated since 1994 at Ajou University in Suwon, Korea. The pilot-scale gasification facility consists of the coal gasifier, the hot gas filtering system, and the acid gas removal (AGR) system. The acid gas such as $H_2S$ and COS is removed in the AGR system before generating electricity by gas engine and producing chemicals like Di-methyl Ether(DME) in the catalytic reactor. The designed operation temperature and pressure of the $H_2S$ removal system are below $50^{\circ}C$ and 8 kg/$cm^2$. The iron chelate solution is used as an absorbent. $H_2S$ is removed below 0.1 ppm in the H2S removal system.

  • Recently, due to various environmental problems such as global warming, increases of international oil prices, exhaustion of resource, a paradigm of world automobile market is rapidly changing from conventional vehicles using internal combustion engine to eco-friendly vehicles using electric power such as EV, HEV, PHEV and FCEV. Generally, in order to measure fuel consumption and pollutant emissions of cars, chassis dynamometer tests are performed on various driving cycles before actual driving test. There are many driving cycles for performance evaluation of conventional vehicles. However, there is a lack of researches on driving cycle for EV. In this study, the urban driving cycle for performance evaluation of electric vehicles was developed. This study is composed of two parts. In the part 1, the urban driving cycle 'GUDC-EV(Gwacheon-city Urban Driving Cycle for Electric Vehicles)' was developed by using driving data, which were obtained through actual driving experiment, and statistic analysis with chronological table. In this paper part 2, in order to verify the developed driving cycle GUDC-EV, virtual EV platforms were configured and simulations were performed with actual driving data using In addition, simulation results were compared with existing driving cycles such as FTP-72, NEDC and Japan 10-15.
