  • In comparison with gasoline engine, LPG direct injection engine has some advantages not only in emission and fuel efficiency but also in prevention of power decrease and back fire etc. which are disadvantages of conventional LPG engine. In this study, comparision tests of the incylinder spray and combustion characteristics between of LPG and gasoline fuels were performed in the RCEM as a basic research for the development of future LPG engine with low emission and high fuel efficiency During the direct injection of LPG fuel and gasoline into the inside of RCEM, spray development characteristics according to the injection condition have been photographed by the high speed shadow graph methods. The conditions for the optimum mixture distribution of LPG and gasoline fuels are achievable at the selected ignition timing, respectively.

  • It is very important to evaluate the friction force of valve train system in the aspect of reducing friction loss of engine. To this end, we have developed measuring system of friction force of engine valve train system. There were two major factors in the process of development of it. One was it had to accurately measure the friction force up to 3500 Crpm without any problems such as mechanical vibration, electrical noise and so on. The other was it also had to simulate real engine conditions such as Crpm, oil temperature, oil pressure and oil aeration including effect of belt drive system. In this paper we have introduced the process of development of it based on test results, and also analysis process of measured data.

  • Compressed natural gas has a high octane number and low particulate emission characteristics as compared with petroleum-based fuels, so it can respond to exhaust gas regulations positively. A natural gas engine has been introduced to improve the quality of the atmosphere, a diversity of fuel, a stable supply, and it has widely been used in city buses and garbage trucks. Recently, the natural gas engine has received attention by overcoming the disadvantage of the theoretical air-fuel ratio method through the development of EGR cooler and engine parts with the development of LP-EGR technology. In this study, we try to develop the cogeneration system that can simultaneously generate electric power and heat by remodeling the gasoline engine to the mixer type CNG engine. As a result, it was able to reduce the NOx (approximately 77%) compared to the diesel engines with same displacement.

  • This study deals with the numerical analysis for hood development to improve the cooling effect of the engine related components in engine room. Reducing the component temperature in engine room caused by a sudden temperature deviation can minimize the durability degradation of components. Therefore, in this study, numerical analysis for the development of the hood in engine room was carried out in four parts such as generator, battery, ECU and power steel oil which are relatively easy to control temperature among the main components in engine room. In order to verify the numerical analysis, experiments were conducted under the same conditions as those assumed in the numerical analysis.

  • The research empirically analyzes the impact of technological regime of game engine upon game development performance. The results indicate that, first, technological regime of game engine determines game's genre distribution. Secondly, user friendly game engine regime(modular, generic and integrated API engine) induces higher genre diversity and lower genre concentration ratios. Thirdly, user friendly game engine regime(modular, generic and integrated API engine) is becoming more applied recently. Fourthly, innovation types and price types of game engine do not influence upon game engine trades. Those results point out that game engine's technological regime influences directly game development application and user friendly regime is increasingly more standardized.

  • In this study, performance analysis modeling of two spool mixed flow type turbofan engine according to steady-state and transient is performed. The target engine is selected as F100-PW-229 from Pratt & Whitney, and main engine components including fan, high pressure compressors, combustion, high pressure turbines, low pressure turbines, mixer, convergent-divergent nozzle are modeled. The cooling effect of turbine through secondary flow path are considered in engine simulation model. We develop in-house Matlab/Simulink-based engine performance analysis program capable of analyzing internal engine state and compare it with GASTURB which is generally used as a commercial engine analysis program.

  • Engine makers are lately interested in the gas engine development as the alternative for diesel engine in order to cope the rise of oil price and the environmental regulation. So, STX has developed the 1.6MW gas engine which was converted from 22HLX diesel engine. The gas engine developed with precombustion chamber, which has good performance of 21bar BMEP at engine speed 1000rpm and low $NO_X$ emission of 50ppm at 15% oxygen composition, has been developed recently. Especially, it has a good thermal efficiency of 45% and a reduction efficiency of green house gas($CO_2$) emission of 25% than a conventional diesel engine.

  • At maritime safety committee 78th of IMO, the Norway suggested the development of provisions for installation and operation of gas fuelled internal combustion engine with the exception of LNG carrier. At first, this document decribes gas fuelled internal combustion engine, describes IMO's tredency under FP sub-committee, DE sub-committee and BLG sub-committee's purview. Furthermore, this paper proposes actions requested the development of this provisions in Republic of Korea.

  • This paper describes a requirement analysis for automotive engine design using a computer aided systems engineering tool RDD-100. Because the engine is a complex system with many subsystems, there are many needs of stakeholder throughout the life-cycle of the engine. The originating requirements have been derived from the needs and decomposed into leaf-node requirements with the tool. Many requirement errors have been detected during the decomposition process and resolved by modifying the requirements. Inconsistency problems have been also resolved with the tool, Analysis of engine requirements using RDD-100 brings clarity to engine design early in the development process.

  • Analysis of heat transfer on small-size Diesel engine is required for the development of high performance and efficiency engine. This basic study aims to establish heat transfer technique for marine Diesel engine. The main results from this study are as follows : 1) Overall engine heat transfer correlation of Re-Nu. 2) Radiant heat flux as fraction of total heat flux over the load range of several different Diesel engine. 3) Characteristics of heating curves on piston, cylinder liner and head. 4) Surface heat flux versus injection timing.
