This work deals with a controlled auto-ignition (CAI) single cylinder gasoline engine, focusing on the extension of operating conditions. The fuel is injected indirectly into electrically heated inlet air flow. In order to keep a homogeneous air-fuel mixing, the fuel injector is cooled by the water of a specially designed coolant passage. The engine emission characteristics were investigated under the wide range of operating conditions such as 32 to 63 in the air-fuel ratio, 1000 to 1800 rpm in the engine speed, and 150 to $180^{\circ}C$ in the inlet air temperature. The ultra lean-burn can be achieved by the auto-ignition of gasoline fuel due to the heated inlet air in the compression ignition gasoline engine. It is confirmed that the emission concentrations of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxide can be significantly reduced by CAI combustion compared with the combustion of a conventional spark ignition engine.

By applying of total electric capacitance method on engine connecting rod bearing during engine operating, the influence of engine operating conditions and lubricants on bearing oil film thickness was investigated. Minimum oil film thickness increases with kinematic viscosity, but as increasing of viscosity, the increasing ratio of film thickness is reduced. Also minimum oil film thickness increases with engine speed but there is a limit. Above this limit, film thickness decreases in opposition because of crankshaft inertia. As increasing of engine torque and oil temperature, munimum oil film thickness decreases linearly. For non-Newtonian oils, the correlation between $100{\circ}C$ kinematic viscosity and munimum oil film thickness is very poor.
As a preliminary research to provide amendment for the engine performance test regulation of two-wheeled vehicles, the engine performance data are investigated in terms of maximum torque, rated power, and engine speed of motorcycles on sales in Korean market. Based on the engine performance database officially published to consumers, some forecasted problems are discussed when the maximum torque and the rated power are measured under the present test standards. EU and Korea regulations on engine performance test are carefully compared in terms of the accuracy of measurement devices, test procedures including data acquisition method, and allowable range of rated power measurement. Complementary items are discussed to eliminate ambiguities in the present regulation and to construct rational regulation system.

It is well known that the combustion phenomenon of diesel engine is an unsteady turbulent diffusion combustion. Therefore, the combustion performance of diesel engine is related to a complex phenomenon which involves the various factors of combustion, such as a injection pressure, injection timing, injection rate, and operation conditions of engine. In this study, the spray and the flame development processes in a single cylinder D.I. diesel visualization engine which uses the electronically controlled injection system were visualized to interpret the complicated combustion phenomenon by using high speed CCD camera. In addition, the cylinder pressure and heat release rate were also obtained in order to analyze the diesel combustion characteristics under several engine conditions.

The surge control system in unmanned turbojet engine must be capable of accounting uncertainties from engine transient conditions, random fluctuations of key parameters such as air pressure and fuel flow and engine modeling errors. In this paper, taking into consideration of its effectiveness as well as system stability, a fuzzy PI controller is proposed. The role of the fuzzy PI controller is to stabilize the unmanned aircraft upon occurring unexpected engine surge. The proposed control scheme is proved by computer simulation using a linear engine model. The simulation results on the state space model of a small turbojet engine illustrate the proposed control system achieves the desired performance.

This paper presents vibration control of an engine mount for a passenger vehicle utilizing ER fluid and piezoelectric actuator. The proposed engine mount can be isolated the vibration of wide frequency range with many types of amplitude. The main function of ER fluid is to attenuate vibration for low frequency with large amplitude, while the piezoelectric actuator is activated in hish frequency range with small amplitude. A mathematical model of the engine mount is derived using Hydraulic model and mechanical model. After formulating the governing equation of motion, then field-dependent dynamic stiffness of the engine mount is evaluated for various engine speed and excitation amplitude conditions. Then robust controller is designed to attenuate vibration of wide range frequency component. Computer simulation is undertaken in order to evaluate the vibration control performance such as transmissibility magnitude in frequency domains.
Recently, the HSDI (High Speed Direct Injection) diesel engine has been spotlighted as a next generation engine because it has a good potential for high thermal efficiency and fuel economy. This study was carried out to investigate the in-cylinder flow characteristics generated in a HSDI diesel engine with a 4-valve type cylinder head. The four kinds of cylinder head were manufactured to elucidate the effect of intake port geometry on the in-cylinder flow characteristics. The steady flow characteristics such as coefficient of flow rate $(C_{f})$, swirl ratio (Rs), and mass flow rate (m,) were measured by the steady flow test rig and the unsteady flow velocity within a cylinder was measured by PIV. In addition, the in-cylinder flow patterns were visualized by the visualization experiment and these results were compared with simulation results calculated by the commercial CFD code. The steady flow test results indicated that the mass flow rate of the cylinder head with a short distance between the two intake ports is $13\%$ more than that of the other head. However, the non-dimensional swirl ratio is decreased by approximately $15\%$. As a result of in-cylinder flow characteristics obtained by PIV and CFD calculation, we found that the swirl center was eccentric from the cylinder center and the position of swirl center was changed with crank angle. As the piston moves to near the TDC, the swirl center corresponded to the cylinder center and the velocity distribution became uniform. In addition, the results of the calculation are in good agreement with the experimental results.
In an Unity engine for multi-player online games, the main thread processing game logic must be separated from the network thread that is responsible for network packet communication. Packet communication between the network threads needs to drop packets that overlap in order to improve the rendering speed. In this paper, the packet discard policy of network thread is proposed for an Unity engine for multi-player online games. The proposed method is the hybrid method of both Partial Packet Discard and Periodic Packet Discard methods to improve the rendering speed by periodically discarding overlapped network packets managed by the queue. The rendering speed of the proposed method is analyzed and its effectiveness is verified by various packet generating simulations of the Unity engine for multi-player online games.

A large fraction of urban $PM_{10}$ concentrations is due to non-exhaust traffic emissions including road dust, tire wear particles, and brake lining particles. Although potential health and environmental impacts associated with tire wear debris have been increased, few environmentally and biologically relevant studies of actual tire wear debris have been conducted. Tire wear particles (TWP) are released from the tire tread as a result of the interaction between the tire and the pavement. Roadway particles (RP), meanwhile, are particles on roads composed of a mixture of elements from tires, pavements, fuels, brakes, and environmental dust. The main objective of present study is to identify the contribution of tires to the generation of RP and to assess the potential environmental and health impacts of this contribution. First, a mobile measurement system was constructed and used to measure the roadway particles on asphalt road according to vehicle speed. The equipment of the mobile system provides $PM_{10}$ concentrations by Dusttrak DRX and number density & size distribution measurements of fine and ultra-fine particles by a fast mobility particle sizer (FMPS) and an aerosol particle sizer (APS). When traveling on an asphalt road at constant speed, there is a clear tendency for PM10 concentration to increase slightly in accordance with an increase in the vehicle speed. It was also found that considerable brake wear particles and particles from tire/road interface were generated by rapid deceleration of the vehicle. The morphology and elements of the roadway particles were also analyzed using SEM-EDX technique.

Improvements of fuel properties have become essential for exhaust emission reduction as well as for optimization of directly-related design factors and exhaust gas aftertreatment. In this study, the potential possibility of oxygenated fuel such as ethylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether(EGBE) was investigated for the sake of smoke reduction from diesel engine. Because EGBE include oxygen content approximately 27%, it is a kind of effective oxygenated fuel that the smoke emission of EGBE is reduced remarkably in comparison with commercial diesel fuel, that is, it can supply oxygen component sufficient at high load and speed in diesel engine. And, it was tried to analyze the quantities of the low and high boiling point hydrocarbon among the exhaust emissions in diesel engine. It have been investigated by the quantitative analysis of the hydrocarbon $C_1$~ $C_{6}$ using the gas chromatography. This study was carried out by comparing the chromatogram with diesel fuel and diesel fuel blended EGBE 20vo1-%. The results of this study show that the hydrocarbon $C_1$~C$_{6}$ among the exhaust emission of the mixed fuels are exhausted lower than those of the diesel fuel at the all load and speed. In particular, high boiling point hydrocarbons such as $C_{5}$ and $C_{6}$ were reduced remarkably at high speed and load.d.
