  • An intelligent performance diagnostic computer program of a gas turbine using the NN(Neural Network) was developed. Recently on-condition performance monitoring of major gas path components using the GPA(Gas Path Analysis) method has been performed in analyzing of engine faults. However because the types and severities of engine faults are various and complex, it is not easy that all fault conditions of the engine would be monitored only by the GPA approach Therefore in order to solve this problem, application of using the NNs for learning and diagnosis would be required. Among then, a BPN (Back Propagation Neural Network) with one hidden layer, which can use an updating learning rate, was proposed for diagnostics of PT6A-62 turboprop engine in this work.

Monitoring of Misfiring Status of Ship Engines Using Minute Speed Changes in the Crankshaft (크랭크축의 미세속도변화를 이용한 선박엔진의 착화불량 상태 감시)

  • In this study an efficient method for detecting and monitoring engine misfiring, focusing on minute speed changes in the crankshaft is proposed., Its validity is verified using various misfiring cases. Typically, the crankshaft speed fluctuates around the normal value depending on the engine misfiring status. Even a minute speed change in the crankshaft can be estimated by measuring the rotation time of each tooth of the 118-tooth flywheel attached to the crankshaft with a 2-MHz timer. Therefore, a speed pattern for an in-line six-cylinder engine consists of 236 tooth rotation speeds corresponding to the two rotations of the crankshaft, in which all the cylinders complete four-stroke cycle. FFT analysis can reduce the number of components of a speed pattern from 236 to just four major components: - fundamental frequency_(f), 2f, 3f, 6f., - This makes the comparison of the misfiring cases simpler and faster. In the experiment, five engine status cases (one normal firing and, four misfiring cases) were simulated. While the 6f component was the largest for the normal case, the f component increased as misfiring occurred one, two apart, and two consecutive times.   • In this paper, we have implemented an overflow valve for EURO5 Type and the performance evaluation system based on IEEE802 protocol. On injecting a diesel oil into an engine, it is necessity for an overflow valve that can sustain an engine oil status in front of the engine. In order to evaluate the performance of overflow valve, we need the leak test system with IT. The leak test system checks the pressure, switching time and operating time.

  • This paper develops an OBD Diagnostic Program (Program) using Visual Studio (C#), which was used to diagnosis malfunction information from OBD-II system vehicles. We accomplished this using the Program, Diagnostic tests, Board (STN1110), FTDI Basic Cable, Mini USB Cable, OBD Data Cable, and both hybrid and regular vehicles. The Program tests real-time data output, DTC output, sensor value output, engine RPM, waveform data, OBD type check, PID inspection, and whole monitoring. We found vehicles used in this research had 19 PIDs, which was within OBD-II regulations. We also gathered data on control and diagnostic code regulated by OBD-II system, such as, sensor output value, engine RPM, DTC output, each PID analytic value, OBD type, fuel mode, and whole monitoring result value. Using the data collected through the Program appropriately can lead to more effective diagnostic practices and contribute to education.

  • A dynamic simulation of a turbo-shaft engine was performed for analysis of transient-state and engine-starting characteristics using the MATLAB/SIMULINKTM. The turbo-shaft engine was modelled based on thermodynamic and rotor dynamic relations. The analysis of engine starting characteristics was performed by monitoring the rate of the pressure, temperature and mechanical torque changes along the engine stations by the torque input generated from the accessary power unit and transmitted to the power turbine. The simulation of the transient-state characteristics of the engine was performed under fuel flow rate increase from the steady-state condition. For the future study, engine control unit will be added to the basic turbo-shaft engine model to enhance capability of engine performance simulation.

  • In order to monitior machine tool condition and diagnose alarm states due to electrical and mechanical faults, and expert system using diagnostic parameters of NC machine tools was developed. A model-based knowledge base was constructed via searching and comparing procedures of diagnostic parameters and state parameters of the machine tool. Diagnostic monitoring results generate through a successive type inference engine were graphically displayed on the screen of the console. The validity and reliability of the expert system was rcrified on a vertical machining center equipped with FANUC OMC through a series of experiments.

  • A marine diesel engine should realize optimal efficiency operation while reducing NOx. Fuel injection systems by electronic control can become effective means for that. Although it would be able to get more precise engine control compared to the mechanical injection system, it needs some accurate and instant information in order to bring its ability into full play while sailing on the sea. Very important information of them is shaft torque and continuous combustion pressure of all cylinders. The system presented in this report can deliver those data.

  • In the wide area surveillance system including many CCTVs, application for remote realtime monitoring is designed and implemented. The applications using Xcode provide secure administrator interface from headquarters. Through the efficient and intuitive interface, it delivers real-time context reports and inference results. For the user convenience, it includes push alarm of events, SNS, Media streaming service for real-time monitoring uses Wirecast and Wowza media server. Wowza stream engine provides URL accommodating development specification. Mobile devices can receive real-time stream data. Performance evaluation in the processing is provided.

  • Detection and monitoring of wildfires are essential for limiting their harmful effects on ecosystems, human lives, and property. In this research, we propose a novel method running in the Google Earth Engine platform for identifying and characterizing burnt regions using a hybrid of Sentinel-1 (C-band synthetic aperture radar) and Sentinel-2 (multispectral photography) images. The 2022 Uljin wildfire, the severest event in South Korean history, is the primary area of our investigation. Given its documented success in remote sensing and land cover categorization applications, we select the Random Forest (RF) method as our primary classifier. Next, we evaluate the performance of our model using multiple accuracy measures, including overall accuracy (OA), Kappa coefficient, and area under the curve (AUC). The proposed method shows the accuracy and resilience of wildfire identification compared to traditional methods that depend on survey data. These results have significant implications for the development of efficient and dependable wildfire monitoring systems and add to our knowledge of how machine learning and remote sensing-based approaches may be combined to improve environmental monitoring and management applications.

  • In this paper the recent studies of digital governor for the Diesel Engine in Korea is summarized and that of usage in the marine and land field as of power plant is analyzed for the interest and development of the enterprise with relation with relation to this industrial part. Our investigation shows that until now the studies on the digitl governor are mainly carried out in KMU and land usage for the power plants is increased gradually because reliance of digital governor is improved and system for the maneuvering and monitoring the plants is computerized.
