  • There have been several tipical methods being used tomeasure the fuzziness (entropy) of fuzzy sets. Pedrycz is the original motivation of this paper. Recently, Wang and Chiu [FSS103(1999) 443-455] and Pedrycz [FSS 64(1994) 21-30] showed the relationship(addition, subtraction, multiplication) between the entropies of the resultant fuzzy number and the original fuzzy numbers of same type. In this paper, using Lebesgue-Stieltjes integral, we generalize results of Wang and Chiu [FSS 103(1999) 443-455] concerning entropy arithmetic operations without the condition of same types of fuzzy numbers. And using this results and trade-off relationship between information energy and entropy, we study more properties of information energy of fuzzy numbers.

  • There have been several tipical methods being used to measure the fuzziness (entropy) of fuzzy sets. Pedrycz is the original motivation of this paper. This paper studies the entropy variation on the fuzzy numbers with arithmetic operations(addition, subtraction, multiplication) and the relationship between entropy and information energy. It is shown that through the arithmetic operations, the entropy of the resultant fuzzy number has the arithmetic relation with the entropy of each original fuzzy number. Moreover, the information energy variation on the fuzzy numbers is also discussed. The results generalize earlier results of Pedrycz [FSS 64(1994) 21-30] and Wang and Chiu [FSS 103(1999) 443-455].

  • A fiber-optic beta/gamma dual detector system with two types of sensing probes was fabricated to detect the beta- and gamma-rays simultaneously. As scintillators of the sensing probe type 1, two different inorganic scintillators, $CaF_2(Eu)$ and LYSO(Ce) crystals, were used to obtain the each scintillating efficiency with respect to beta-and gamma-rays and the inherent energy spectra of radioactive isotopes. In the case of the sensing probe type 2, which is composed of two identical inorganic scintillators and a beta shielding material based on the lead, it could discriminate beta- and gamma-rays using a subtraction method. In conclusion, we demonstrated that the proposed fiber-optic beta/gamma dual detector could measure and discriminate beta- and gamma-rays using both energy spectroscopy and subtraction method.

  • Effective treatment and energy conversion technologies are necessary due to the ban of the dumping of organic waste including the sewage sludge. In this study, the kinetics of pyrolysis and combustion were derived in a TGA and thermobalance reactor, which is essential for thermal conversion of sewage sludge to energy. Three steps are shown for the pyrolysis in TGA and the different pre-exponential factors and activation energies are derived depending on the temperature range. Three models of gassolid reaction were applied to the reaction kinetics analysis for the combustion of sewage sludge char and shrinking core model was an appropriated model. Apparent activation energy and pre-exponential factor were evaluated and the effect of oxygen partial pressure was examined.

  • In this paper, a robust feature compensation method to deal with the environmental mismatch is proposed. The proposed method applies energy based weights according to the degree of speech presence to the Mean subtraction, Variance normalization, and ARMA filtering (MVA) processing. The weights are further smoothed by the moving average and maximum filters. The proposed feature compensation algorithm is evaluated on AURORA 2 task and distant talking experiment using the robot platform, and we obtain error rate reduction of 14.4 % and 44.9 % by using the proposed algorithm comparing with MVA processing on AURORA 2 task and distant talking experiment, respectively.

  • This paper describes a design of a 1bit Carry Propagate Free Adder/Subtracter (CPFA/S) VLSI using the Adiabatic Dynamic CMOS Logic (ADCL) circuit technology. Using a PSPICE simulator, energy dissipation of the ADCL 1bit CPFA/S is compared with that of the CMOS 1bit CPFA/S. As a result, energy dissipation of the proposed ADCL circuits is about 1/23 as low as that of the CMOS circuits. The transistors count, propagation-delay tittle and energy dissipation of the ADCL 4bit CPFA/S are compared with those of the ADCL 4bit Carry Propagate Adder/Subtracter (CPA/S). The transistors count and propagation-delay tittle are found to be reduced by 7.02% and 57.1%, respectively. Also, energy dissipation is found to be reduced by 78.4%. Circuit operation and performance are evaluated using a chain of the ADCL 1bit CPFA/S fabricated in a $1.21mutextrm{m}$ CMOS process. The experimental results show that addition and subtraction are operated with clock frequencies up to about 1㎒.

  • Currently, the world's elderly population continues to grow at a dramatic rate. As the number of senior citizens increases, detection of someone falling has attracted increasing attention for visual surveillance systems. This paper presents a novel fall-detection algorithm using motion estimation and an integrated spatiotemporal energy map of the object region. The proposed method first extracts a human region using a background subtraction method. Next, we applied an optical flow algorithm to estimate motion vectors, and an energy map is generated by accumulating the detected human region for a certain period of time. We can then detect a fall using k-nearest neighbor (kNN) classification with the previously estimated motion information and energy map. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively detect someone falling in any direction, including at an angle parallel to the camera's optical axis.

  • As the γ-ray energy increases, a reconstructed image becomes noisy and blurred due to the penetration of the γ-ray through the coded mask. Therefore, the thickness of the coded mask was increased for high energy regions, resulting in severely decreased the performance of the detection efficiency due to self-collimation by the mask. In order to overcome the limitation, a modified uniformly redundant array γ-ray imaging system using dual anti-mask method was developed, and its performance was compared and evaluated in high-energy radiation region. In the dual anti-mask method, the two shadow images, including the subtraction of background events, can simultaneously contribute to the reconstructed image. Moreover, the reconstructed images using each shadow image were integrated using a hybrid update maximum likelihood expectation maximization (h-MLEM). Using the quantitative evaluation method, the performance of the dual anti-mask method was compared with the previously developed collimation methods. As the shadow image which was subtracted the background events leads to a higher-quality reconstructed image, the reconstructed image of the dual anti-mask method showed high performance among the three collimation methods. Finally, the quantitative evaluation method proves that the performance of the dual anti-mask method was better than that of the previously reconstruction methods.
