An Analysis of Demand for Environmental Controls on Different Residential Building Types (주거용 건물의 유형에 따른 환경조절요구에 대한 분석)

  • One of the most important functions of a building is to provide thermally comfortable indoor environmental conditions for the occupants. Therefore, a great deal of energy is consumed for heating and cooling to satisfy those thermal requirements. In order to provide thermal comfort with minimum heating and cooling energy consumption, optimal design of building affecting indoor climate is required. This study used the TRNSYS for modeling and simulation of the energy flows of residential building types, and examined the energy efficient measures to reduce the thermal loads. The residential building types are classified into the detached house, apartment house and high-rise residential complex. The results of the simulation show that the heating energy consumption in the detached house is especially high, whereas the cooling load is an important determinant in the apartment house and high-rise residential complex. The measures examined are the insulation thickness, various types of glazing, infiltration, natural and controlled ventilation, solar shading, orientation and etc. Comparative evaluations and sensitivity analyses revealed the effects of these variables and identified their energy efficient building design strategies.

  • Nowaday, The Sustainable Development about global environment is the most important subject. In urban environment, a variety of the nature energy utilization such as the solar energy are the most efficient solution to solve this issue. One of these efficient solutions, a photovoltaic system using sunlight has been introduced to the building with an advantage such as cost-effective, safe for using and good for environment friendly in light with energy utilization. Recently, many of the apartment housings are built in domestic country. The apartment buildings have been constructed since early of 1970's. now apartment is taking over 50% out of entire housing in korea. The apartment housing applying to a photovoltaic system has been extensively studied in the foreign country but our county runs short. So, It was necessary to technical development of PV application which is suitable in Korean house culture. The objective of this study is to develop the building integrated PV application method for apartment building.

  • As the cooling energy requirement in an office building increases due to the increased internal heat gains, the effort to minimize the energy consumption through efficient operation of existing HVAC systems will be beneficial. In this study, one of the energy conserving efforts in an office building, operational strategies of Economizer Cycle Control have been investigated through DOE-2.1E computer simulation. The findings can be summarized : 1) Economizer Cycle Control saves energy throughout the year, 2) Econo-Limit-T must be applied seasonally based on the outside and return air conditions, 3) use of Enthalpy control is more energy efficient than that of Temperature control.

  • The major goal of building energy management is to minimize the energy consumption while maintaining the comfortable environment condition. Nowadays building energy management to save HVAC energy and so on is the most critical issue for existing building service branch with high efficiency equipments and their optimal operation. The effects on the building energy savings of the building equipment retrofit and the improvement of its operation method, especially in the field of HVAC system, were analyzed in this study for domestic small and/or medium sized buildings. Over 8.8% of energy saving was achieved compared withe total energy consumption in commercial building. These results could be used for reasonable maintenance and efficient management of the various building service equipments and related systems.

  • With the increase in the demand for sustainable and environment-friendly development all over the world, it becomes an urgent issue for Korea to reduce $CO_2$ emission. Since building industry accounts for about 40% of international energy and resource consumption and $30{\sim}40%$ of $CO_2$ emission, it is essential to prepare for energy-efficient building. This study aims to seek for improvement direction for a domestic Building Energy Efficiency Rating System through the comparison with foreign systems. Two foreign building energy rating systems which have the similar application scope with domestic one, HERS(Home Energy Rating System) and SAP(Standard Assessment Procedure)2005 were selected. As compared with foreign systems, we intended to suggest improvement direction for effective application of Building Energy Efficiency Rating System in Korea.

  • This study suggested practical application of decision aid tool on re-evaluation of current buildings with a focus on a energy and economics evaluation methodology. In Europe, over forty percent of all construction activities are for retrofit. For efficient construction, various tools for re-evaluating existing buildings have been developed and are in use. Legislations of relevant laws and studies are actively initiated. In particular, EPIQR (Energy Performance Indoor environment Quality Retrofit), which was developed through the EU's Third and Fourth Framework Programs laid a foundation on a new concept-based decision aid tool for re-evaluation of existing buildings. As for actual applications, based on this, EPIQR+ was developed to be in line with a building maintenance guideline (SIA 469) and is actively applied to public buildings. This tool quantifies the degree of damages of existing buildings and suggests alternatives to users in energy (SIA 380/1) and economical perspectives. This study examined these preceding tools and suggested some trenchant approaching for more comprehensive and efficient use of re-evaluation tools in building maintenance.

  • This project was conducted as part of the Building America program that proposed the overall mission to achieve 30-50% reduction in existing building energy use. The purposes of this project were to analyze architectural styles and features named as archetypes of existing homes within the Great Lakes regions that include Michigan and identify the dominant type that would offer significant potential for energy-efficient retrofit. Housing archetypes were analyzed according to vintage, style, and construction characteristics in two target cities within the region. The findings from an intensive case study targeting the City of Ann Arbor established a fundamental framework for characterizing local housing archetypes and determined the dominant housing archetype that needed energy-efficient retrofit. An extended case study then conducted in Grand Rapids additionally refined this framework for the future application. This paper explained the process and data collection method to develop the framework that can be utilized by other researchers to determine the target housing types for energy-retrofit research.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the current performance measurement methods of BIPV module and to measure the performance of BIPV module by mock-up tests.

  • A variety of Certification systems are initiated, as increased demands for housing quality of building & house owner. New building and apartment built in Seoul metropolitan should acquire Building Energy Rating System and Housing Performance Grade indication System, Green Building Certification System. Building Energy Rating System could be acquired through the certification from energy performance index of environment grade in Housing Performance Grade Indication. Between Housing Performance Grade Indication and Green Building Certification System, There are troublesome to acquire certification because a lot of assessment items are overlapped. At a result, the rational and efficient certification system should be initiated not only to avoid overlap among those certification systems and promote Green Building market share but also efficient certification system operation. We will discuss on assessment items between Housing Performance Grade Indication System and Green Building Certification System and release the improvement method those Certification Systems to avoid overlapping to assessment items.
