ICT Based Prospects of Machine Tool (ICT 기반 공작기계 전망)

  • Nobody deny that Machine Tool has leaded to the development of mechanical technology as it is known for long time. According to this, it has always been changed newly by appling advanced technology. This paper introduces the evolution history of machine tools and describes how the ICT is applied to develop a new type of machine tool. For that, it has been shown what kind of elementary technologies are required. The future vision has also been concluded in this paper.

Application of Biodiesel Fuel and EGR Method in an IDI Diesel Engine (간접분사식 디젤기관에서 바이오디젤유 및 EGR 방법 적용)

  • In this study, the potential possibility of biodiesel fuel was investigated as an alternative fuel for a naturally aspirated indirect injection diesel engine. The smoke emission of biodiesel fuel was reduced remarkably in comparison with diesel fuel, that is, it was reduced approximately 36% at 2000rpm, full load condition. And, power, torque and brake specific energy consumption showed no significant differences. However, NOx emission of biodiesel fuel was increased compared with commercial diesel fuel. Also, the effects of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) to reduce the NOx emission has been investigated. It was found that simultaneous reduction of smoke and NOx was achieved with biodiesel fuel(20vol-%) and cooled EGR method$(10{\sim}15%)$.

Localization and Autonomous Control of PETASUS System II for Manipulation in Structured Environment (구조화된 수중 환경에서 작업을 위한 PETASUS 시스템 II의 위치 인식 및 자율 제어)

  • In this paper, a localization algorithm and an autonomous controller for PETASUS system II which is an underwater vehicle-manipulator system, are proposed. To estimate its position and to identify manipulation targets in a structured environment, a multi-rate extended Kalman filter is developed, where map information and data from inertial sensors, sonar sensors, and vision sensors are used. In addition, a three layered control structure is proposed as a controller for autonomy. By this controller, PETASUS system II is able to generate waypoints and make decisions on its own behaviors. Experiment results are provided for verifying proposed algorithms.

  • This study documents the 3-phase BLDC(Brushless DC) motor to improve conventional exhaust fan motor. Energy efficiency, noise, and air pollution reduction for the high-performance vibration of the BLDC motor has been used in many fields. It is necessary to achieve the information of rotor position for driving 3-phase type brushless DC motor. It is also necessary that the PWM control algorithm design for a MOSFET driver to control the motor speed control for each of three phases. BLDC motors for exhaust fan, we studied the controller and software. The control circuit and motor control program through which Exhaust fan up close and person can be used safely and protect the environment.

  • Animation understanding and time-resolved analysis of the wake characteristic of 2-D sharp plane flows were executed by applying the multi-vision PIV to a sharp plane(three angle of attacks : $15^{\circ}, \; 30^{\circ}, \; 45^{\circ}$) submerged within a circulating water channel($Re = 2{\times}10^4$). The macroscopic shedding patterns were discussed in terms of instantaneous velocity, vorticity, velocity profile, kinetic energy, turbulent intensity, frequency analysis. Particularly, the time-averaged distribution of turbulent intensity in each experimental cases revealed separate island-like small regions magnitude of turbulent intensity was always strengthened.

  • Recently, video monitoring system technology has been rapidly developed to monitor and respond quickly to various situations. In particular, computer vision and related research are being actively carried out to track objects in the video. This paper proposes an efficient multiple objects detection method based on convolutional neural network (CNN) for multiple objects tracking. The results of the experiment show that multiple objects can be detected and tracked in the video in the proposed method, and that our method is also good performance in complex environments.

  • Level set, and active contour(snakes) models are extensively used for image segmentation or shape extraction in computer vision. Snakes utilize the energy minimization concepts, and level set is based on the curve evolution in order to extract contours from image data. In general, these two models have their own drawbacks. For instance, snake acts pooly unless it is placed close to the wanted shape boundary, and it has difficult problem when image has multiple objects to be extracted. But, level set method is free of initial curve position problem, and has ability to handle topology of multiple objects. Nevertheless, level set method requires much more calculation time compared to snake model. In this paper, we use good points of two described models and also apply multi resolution algorithm in order to speed up the process without decreasing the performance of the shape extraction.

  • The recent summer power peak crisis has been caused by excessive use of cooling loads at daily peak time in summer. The yearly load shape of KEPCO has gradually became very steep valley. Under this situation, more efficient DSM(Demand Side Management) tools are fully required for summer peak clipping and shaving. In this paper, the KEPCO's Jeju-Do model project for DSM, especially for Demand Controller, is presented. Demand Controller was evaluated to have the very high economical efficiency against the investment in equipment, as compared with another DSM tools. There were some serious problem to apply Demand Controller to many customers in the aspect to synchronization with KEPCO's watthour meter. But these problems have solved by Keyin's new Demand Controller using vision algorithm.

The Emission Characteristics on Blending Ratios of Biodiesel Fuel and Diesel Fuel in a Common Rail Type Diesel Engine (커먼레일방식 디젤기관의 경유와 바이오디젤유의 혼합율에 따른 배기배출물 특성)

  • Our nature is facing with serious problems related to the air pollution from automobiles in these days. Specially, the exhaust emissions from the diesel engine are recognized as a main cause influencing the environment severly. In this study, the potential possibility of biodiesel fuel is investigated as an alternative fuel for a naturally aspirated CRDi type diesel engine. The smoke emission of biodiesel fuel 5 vol-% was reduced by approximately 40% at 3000 rpm and full load in comparison with diesel fuel. On the other hand, the power, torque and brake specific energy consumption didn't show significant differences. NOx emission of biodiesel fuel was, however, increased compared with commercial diesel fuel.

  • An automatic face recognition(AFR) of individuals is a significant problem in the development of computer vision. An AFR consists of two major parts which are detection of face region and recognition process, and the overall performance of AFR is determined by each. In this paper, the face region is acquired using chromaticity space, but this face region is a simple rectangle which doesn´t consider the shape information. By applying deformable templates to the face region, we can locate the position of the eyes in images. With the face region and the eye location information, more precise face region can be extract from the image. Because processing time is critical in real-time system, we use simplified eye templates and the modified energy function for the efficiency. We can get a good detection performance in experiments.
