상반회전 프로펠러 축계 실용화를 위한 기초 연구 (A Basic Study for the Application of the Shafting System for the Contra-Rotating Propeller)

  • 프로펠러에 의해 생성된 회전 유동에 의한 손실된 에너지를 일부라도 회복시킨다면 추진효율을 증가시킬 수 있고 선박의 운항에 필요한 연료 소모를 줄일 수 있다. 이러한 목적을 위해 설치되는 장비를 에너지저감 장치라고 하며, 이 중 추진효율을 가장 증대시키는 장치 중 하나가 상반회전 프로펠러 시스템이다. 대형 선박에 상반회전 프로펠러를 장착하기 위해서 우선 해결해야 할 과제는 저널 베어링에 발생하는 평균 압력이 선급 요구 조건을 만족하는 것인데, 국내에서는 현재 이 단계를 극복하지 못해 실용화가 이루어지지 않고 있다. 그 다음 단계는 국부 압력도 낮추어 신뢰성을 높이는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 첫 단계인 평균 압력 문제를 해결하기 위해 상반회전 프로펠러 장착 대상 선박으로 축계의 중량을 줄일 수 있는 선미 형상이 짧은 정유운반선을 선정하였고, 이에 적합한 축계 설계안을 제시하였다. 제시안에 대해 축계 해석을 수행한 결과, 선박에 주로 사용되는 저널 베어링 라이닝 재질(화이트메탈)에 대한 선급 요구 설계기준인 평균 면압 0.8 MPa(8 bar)을 만족함을 확인하였으며, 다음 단계인 국부 압력 감소의 필요성도 확인하였다.

Clinical Outcomes and Cost-Effectiveness of Osteoporosis Screening With Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry

  • Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes and cost-effectiveness of dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) for osteoporosis screening. Materials and Methods: Eligible patients who had and had not undergone DXA screening were identified from among those aged 50 years or older at Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital, Taiwan. Age, sex, screening year (index year), and Charlson comorbidity index of the DXA and non-DXA groups were matched using inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) for propensity score analysis. For cost-effectiveness analysis, a societal perspective, 1-year cycle length, 20-year time horizon, and discount rate of 2% per year for both effectiveness and costs were adopted in the incremental cost-effectiveness (ICER) model. Results: The outcome analysis included 10337 patients (female:male, 63.8%:36.2%) who were screened for osteoporosis in southern Taiwan between January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2021. The DXA group had significantly better outcomes than the non-DXA group in terms of fragility fractures (7.6% vs. 12.5%, P < 0.001) and mortality (0.6% vs. 4.3%, P < 0.001). The DXA screening strategy gained an ICER of US$ -2794 per quality-adjusted life year (QALY) relative to the non-DXA at the willingness-to-pay threshold of US$ 33004 (Taiwan's per capita gross domestic product). The ICER after stratifying by ages of 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and ≥ 80 years were US$ -17815, US$ -26862, US$ -28981, and US$ -34816 per QALY, respectively. Conclusion: Using DXA to screen adults aged 50 years or older for osteoporosis resulted in a reduced incidence of fragility fractures, lower mortality rate, and reduced total costs. Screening for osteoporosis is a cost-saving strategy and its effectiveness increases with age. However, caution is needed when generalizing these cost-effectiveness results to all older populations because the study population consisted mainly of women.

Application of Thermotolerant Yeast at High Temperature in Jar-fermentor Scale.

  • We investigated the possibility of industrial application and economit process of high temperature fermentation by thermotolerant alcohol producing yeasts as previously reported. From the 20% glucose media, the RA-74-2 produced 11.8% (v/v) ethanol at $32^{\circ}C$ (0.5% inoculum) and 10.6% (v/v) ethanol at $40^{\circ}C$ (3% inoculum), respectively. Also, 11.3% (v/v) ethanol was produced for 96 hours in the temperature-gradient fermentation. These results suggest that the RA-74-2 could isuccessfully be applied to save the cooling water and energy in industrial scale without re-investment or modification of established fermentation systems. When potato starch was used as the substrate for the RA-74-2, high temperature fermentation above $40^{\circ}C$ was more appropriate for industrial utilization because organic nitrogen was not necessary to economical fermentation. As the naked barley media just prior to industrial inoculation, taken from the Poongkuk alcohol industry Co., were used, 9.6% (v/v) ethanol was produced at $40^{\circ}C$ for 48 hours in jar-fermentor scale (actually, 9.5-9.8% (v/v) ethanol was produced at 30~$32^{\circ}C$ for 100 hours in industrial scale). The ethanol productivity was increased by the high glucoamylase activity as well as the high metabolic ratio at $40^{\circ}C$ Therefore, if the thermotolerant yeast RA-74-2 would be used in industrial scale, we could obtain a high productivity and saving of the cooling water and energy. Meanwhile, the RA-912 produced 6%(v/v) ethanol in 10% glucose media at $45^{\circ}C$ and showed the less ethanol-tolerance compared with industrial strains. As the produced alcohol was recovered by the vacuum evaporator at $45^{\circ}C$ in 15% glucose media, the final fermentation ratio was enhanced (76% of theoretical yields). This suggest that a hyperproductive process could be achieved by a continuous input of the substrate and continuous recovery of the product under vacuum in high cell-density culture.

  • Many process parameters have an effect on the auto-body panel forming process. A well designed blank shape causes the material to flow smoothly, reduces the punch and yields a product with uniform thickness distribution. Therefore, the determination of an initial blank shape plays the important role of saving time and cost in the auto-body panel forming process. For these reasons, some approaches to estimate the initial blank shape have been implemented, in this paper The one-step approach using a finite element inverse method will be introduced to predict the optimal forming with changing of blank pressure the developed program is applied to auto-body panel forming.

  • This paper presents a new control mechanism for the proportional pressure control which is accomplished by electro-pneumatic regulator using two PZT actuators. The electro-pneumatic regulator of this study is 2-stage type and consists of two piezoelectric actuators, a controller and a main poppet valve. The piezoelectric actuators are multilayer bender type and are controlled by digital signal. Proportional pressure control technique is very important because that can derive improvement of product quality and driving ability in the pneumatic system. Solenoid actuator method for pressure control is widely used but this actuator has a high power consumption characteristics. So new actuator is required for the energy saving. In this study, PZT actuator for the pressure control was fabricated and experimented instead of the conventional type solenoid actuator. Experiments for the new control mechanism of the elector-pneumatic regulator were operated under the input condition of 0.4[MPa] and it was confirmed that this mechanism has a good control characteristics to the response sensitivity and hysteresis.

미국의 재제조산업에 관한 연구 (Remanufacturing Industry for Automobile Parts of USA)

  • Remanufacturing is a process that restores old products to perform like new, while saving energy, reducing consumption of natural resources, and lowering environmental emissions. By extending the product life cycle, remanufacturing approaches enable closed loop material cycles that are ultimately necessary for a sustainable society. This paper provides some description of the current automotive remanufacturing enterprise, with a particular emphasis on key vehicle components that are currently remanufactured. The analysis yields two major conclusions. First, volume of the USA automotive after sales and remanufacturing industry market is estimated. Second, market price of a remanufactured component in the automotive sector is surprisingly uncorrelated with the number of companies engaged in remanufacturing that component - at least for companies registered with the Automotive Parts Remanufacturing Association (ARPA).

  • The most important things for the production of recycled aggregates are saving energy, suppressing the generation of by-product fine particles and sustaining the performance of concrete. As solutions, this study proposes this technology of improving the performance of recycled aggregates through forced carbonation.1) It is to stimulate and carbonate the bond paste part that causes the deterioration of recycled aggregates. Particularly, the purpose of this technology is to fill and chemically stabilize pores inside the bond paste, further improving the quality of recycled aggregates with a decreased absorption rate and an enhanced aggregate strength. Ultimately, it is possible to obtain a carbonation model, depending on the paste ratio and particle-size distribution of recycled aggregates. Moreover, by calculating the optimum carbonation period through the verification of this carbonation model, it is possible to examine how much the strength is improved by the reformation of recycled aggregated.

소형전원장치에 대한 통계적 분석 (Statistical analysis for small power module)

  • 최근 전자기기의 소형화, 인텔리전트화, 다기능화, 광대역화에 관심이 집중되어 많은 발전이 이루어졌으며, 이들 전자기기들에 이용되는 모듈형의 전원장치 (SMPS : Switching-mode power supply)도 소형화, 경량화, 고효율화, 고신뢰성화, 저노이즈화를 실현하고 있다. 85~265 볼트교류전압(VAC : Voltage alternating current) 상용 전원을 공급받아 DC 출력을 공급하는 전원장치인 파워모듈은 마이크로컨트롤러, 릴레이 등 전기, 전자 회로용 전원 공급기를 간단하고 쉽게 설계하도록 개발되고 있다. 이 모듈은 전원을 사용하는 장비에 광범위하게 적용할 수 있어 에너지 절감이라는 세계적인 대과제에 적합한 제품이기는 하나 제품의 품질과 성능에 대한 통계적분석이 필요한 바 적용제품의 부하별, 출력전압별 성능분석을 하여 그 문제점을 찾아보려고 한다.

  • The construction method for Foamed-Concrete has not been important due to following process of construction work. However, according to the code about enhance of energy saving design policy and impact noise, noised isolation has been used in construction site so that the resistance for cracking and capability for insulating of Foamed-Concrete has been required. Therefore, new alternatives are demanded. Optimum mixing design, which can get the improvement of insulation and resistance of crack for Foamed-Concrete adding EVA chip, was derived and also the device, applying to construction site, was invented to equalize quality. This device can measure quantity of all input and placement, and show up the sum of placement and mixing design on a touch screen. This valuable construction method is friendly environment and recycling method because of using EVA chip, by-product of an EVA insole scrap burned or embedded, as a light-weight aggregate.

Stochastics and Artificial Intelligence-based Analytics of Wastewater Plant Operation

  • Tele-metering systems have been useful tools for managing domestic wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) over the last decade. They mostly generate water quality data for discharged water to ensure that it complies with mandatory regulations and they may be able to produce every operation parameter and additional measurements in the near future. A sub-big data group, comprised of about 150,000 data points from four domestic WWTPs, was ready to be classified and also analyzed to optimize the WWTP process. We used the Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) 25 package in order to statistically treat the data with linear regression and correlation analysis. The major independent variables for analysis were water temperature, sludge recycle rate, electricity used, and water quality of the influent while the dependent variables representing the water quality of the effluent included the total nitrogen, which is the most emphasized index for discharged flow in plants. The water temperature and consumed electricity showed a strong correlation with the total nitrogen but the other indices' mutual correlations with other variables were found to be fuzzy due to the large errors involved. In addition, a multilayer perceptron analysis method was applied to TMS data along with root mean square error (RMSE) analysis. This study showed that the RMSE in the SS, T-N, and TOC predictions were in the range of 10% to 20%.
