In response to China's "Regulations on the Management of Earthquake Resistance of Building Constructions" on the provision of eight types of important buildings to maintain functional after fortified earthquakes occur, "Guidelines for Seismic Design of post-quake functional buildings (Draft for Review)" distinguishes Class I and Class II buildings, and gives the performance objectives and seismic verification requirements for design earthquakes and severe earthquakes respectively. In this paper, a hospital and a school building are selected as examples to design according to the requirements of fortification of Intensity 8 and 7 respectively. Two design strategies, the seismic isolation scheme and energy dissipation scheme, are considered which are evaluated through elastic-plastic dynamic time-history analysis to meet the requirement of post-quake functional buildings. The results show that the seismic isolation design can meet the requirements in the above cases, and the energy dissipation scheme is difficult to meet the requirements of the "Guidelines" on floor acceleration in some cases, for which the scheme shall be made valid through the seismic resilience assessment. The research in this paper can provide a reference for designers to choose schemes for post-quake functional buildings.

Technical Specifications (TSs) for a nuclear power plant is an important licensing document which defines various operational requirements or conditions. Recently, many researchers have evaluated the risk impacts associated with the TS requirements, using probabilistic safety assessments becoming widely available. This paper presents insights gained km our review of recent risk-based analyses of TSs, focussing on surveillance requirements and AOT (allowed outage time) requirements.
Two experiments were conducted with one-day-old straight run Muscovy ducklings to determine their protein and energy requirements. In the 1st experiment, isoenergetic diets (2800 kcal ME/kg) with three dietary proteins, 18, 20 and 22% in the starter period (1-28 days) and 16, 18 and 20% in the grower and finisher period (29-84 days) were used to determine the optimum protein requirement. While, in the 2nd experiment, isonitrogenous diets (20%, C.P.) with three dietary energy, 2700, 2800 and 2900 kcal ME/kg in the starter period (1-28 days) and (18% C.P.) with 2800, 2900 and 3000 kcal ME/kg in the grower-finisher period (29-84 days) were used to determine the optimum energy requirement. It was observed that 20% C.P. in the starter period and 18% C.P. in the grower and finisher period was adequate for optimum performance, while, 2900 kal ME/kg was sufficient to meet the optimum energy requirement in both the starter, grower-finisher period as regards body weight, feed efficiency, protein efficiency and caloric efficiency are concerned.
The purpose of this study was to assess the physical activity level of Korean farmers to establish estimated energy requirements during the off-season. Subjects were 90 healthy males (n = 25) and females (n = 65). Body weight, height and body fat and muscles of subjects were measured. The prevalence of obesity among farmers was 56.7% according to the BMI. The farmers spent about 18 hours 7 minutes (75.5%) in sleeping and resting. The farmers spent about 19 hours 56 minutes (83.1%) out of 24 hours (one day) in "sedentary activities" and spent about 3 hours 56 minutes (16.4%) in "light activities". Physical activity level (PAL, activity coefficient) of female farmers was 1.42 which was not significantly higher than that (1.37) of male farmers. Estimated energy requirements (EER) for farmers who were different in age groups and gender were calculated. For example, the EERs for male and female farmers were 2190 kcal/day and 1712 kcal/day, respectively. The daily energy intakes of male and female farmers were 1803 kcal/day and 1610 kcal/day, respectively. The EER of male farmers was 2190 kcal/day which was significantly higher than that (1803 kcal/day) of the recommended daily energy intake of male farmers. The results of this study suggest that estimated EER of farmers should be modified according to seasonal workload and energy balance of farmers should be evaluated to prevent obesity.
Application of computer software to safety-critical systems is on the increase. To be successful, the software must be designed and constructed to meet the functional and performance requirements of the system. For safety reason, the software must be demonstrated not only to meet these requirements, but also to operate safely as a component within the system. For longer-term cost consideration, the software must be designed and structured to ease future maintenance and modifications. This paper present a software engineering process for the production of safety-critical software for a nuclear power plant The presentation is expository in nature of a viable high quality safety-critical software development. It is based on the ideas of a rational design process and on the experience of the adaptation of such process in the production of the safety-critical software for the Shutdown System Number Two of Wolsong 2, 3 & 4 nuclear power generation plants. This process is significantly different from a conventional process in terms of rigorous software development phases and software design techniques. The process covers documentation, design, verification and testing using mathematically precise notations and highly reviewable tabular format to specify software requirements and software design. These specifications allow rigorous, stepwise verification of software design against software requirements, and code against software design using static analysis. The software engineering process described in this paper applies the principle of information-hiding decomposition in software design using a modular design technique so that when a change is' required or an error is detected, the affected scope can be readily and confidently located. It also facilitates a sense of high degree of confidence in the ‘correctness’ of the software production, and provides a relatively simple and straightforward code implementation effort.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The doubly labeled water (DLW) method is considered the gold standard for the measurement of total energy expenditure (TEE), which serves to estimate energy requirements. This study evaluated the accuracy of predictive dietary reference intake (DRI) equations for determining the estimated energy requirements (EER) of Korean adults by using the DLW as a reference method. SUBJECTS/METHODS: Seventy-one participants (35 men and 36 women) aged between 20 and 49 years were included in the study. The subjects' EER, calculated by using the DRI equation ($EER_{DRI}$), was compared with their TEE measured by the DLW method ($TEE_{DLW}$). RESULTS: The DRI equations for EER underestimated TEE by -36.3 kcal/day (-1.3%) in men and -104.5 kcal/day (-4.9%) in women. The percentages of accurate predictions among subjects were 77.1% in men and 62.9% in women. There was a strong linear correlation between $EER_{DRI}$ and $TEE_{DLW}$ (r = 0.783, P < 0.001 in men and r = 0.810, P < 0.001 in women). CONCLUSIONS: The present study supports the use of DRI prediction equations to determine EER in Korean adults. More studies are needed to confirm our results and to assess the validity of these equations in other population groups, including children, adolescents, and older adults.
The rice processing complex(RPC) consisted of the rice handling, drying, storage, and milling processes. It has been established at 83 locations domestically by April 1994, and 200 of RPC will be built more throughout the country. Therefore, this study has been performed to achieve two objectives as the followings : 1) Development of mathematical models which can assess the requirement of electricity, fuel, and labor for four model systems of rice processing complex. 2) Development of a computer simulation model which produce the improved designs of RPC by the evaluation results of energy requirements of four RPC models. The results from this study are summarized as follows : 1) Mathematical models were developed on the basis of result of mass balance analysis and required power of machines for each process. 2) A computer simulation model was developed, which can produce the improved designs of RPC by the evaluation results of energy requirements. The computer simulation model language was BORLAND $C^{++}$. 3) The results of simulation showed that total energy requirements were ranged from 75.94㎾h/t to 124.30㎾h/t. 4) From the results of computer analysis of energy requirement classified by drying type, it was found that energy requirement of the drying type A{paddy rice (PR) for storage-natural air drying(15%), PR for milling-heated air drying(16%)} were less than that of the drying type B{1 step-natural air drying(PR for storage : 18%, PR for milling : 20%), 2 step-heated air drying(PR for storage : 15%, PR for milling : 16%)}. 5) The energy efficient drying method is that all the incoming rough rice to RPC should be dried by national air drying systems. If it is more than the capacity of national air drying system, the amount of surplus rough rice is recommended to be dried by the heated air drying method.

As a global effort for eco-friendly, the ship building is making great efforts to develop ships using low-carbon, eco-friendly alternative fuels. Nuclear energy, one of several eco-friendly alternative energy sources, is evaluated as an effective alternative for future ships by minimizing carbon emissions and securing economic feasibility with low power generation cost. However, although appropriate regulatory requirements are necessary for commercialization of nuclear powered ships, there are currently no regulatory requirements for nuclear powered ships in Korea. In this study, accordingly, domestic and international regulatory requirements related to nuclear powered ships were reviewed, matters to be considered in terms of safety when developing domestic marine nuclear reactor regulatory requirements were derived, and a licensing regulatory system for nuclear powered ships was derived. This study is expected to be used as basic reference data when developing regulatory requirements for nuclear powered ships.
