The sulfur-iodine (SI) thermochemical water splitting cycle is one of promising hydrogen production methods from water using high-temperature heat generated from a high temperature gas-cooled nuclear reactor (HTGR). The SI cycle consists of three main units, such as Bunsen reaction, HI decomposition, and $H_2SO_4$ decomposition. The feasibility of continuous operation of a series of subunits for $H_2SO_4$ decomposition was investigated with a bench-scale facility working at ambient pressure. It showed stable and reproducible $H_2SO_4$ decomposition by steadily producing $SO_2$ and $O_2$ corresponding to a capacity of 1 mol/h $H_2$ for 24 hrs.
The purpose of this study is to construct the main system of simulator for the environment control of agricultural production facilities. The model describing the system was based on the energy and mass balance in an unsteady - state situation. The model consist of the three major parts : the main model, the light model, and the environmental control model, and each part was separated to be developed individually. The main model which is the core of this system includes the thermal model, the soil model, the ventilation model, the cultivation model, and the carbon dioxide model. And also the environmental control model includes the thermal curtain model, the heater/cooler model and the underground heat exchanger model. The equations used in this model were written in analog programming methods using PCSMP The simulator was evaluated through comparison between simulated and measured temperatures controlled during daytime and night. The results showed good agreements between the predicted and measured temperatures.

This article examines the consequences of a significant spent fuel management decision or event in the United States, South Korea and Taiwan. For the United States, it is the financial impact of the Department of Energy's inability to take possession of spent fuel from commercial nuclear power companies beginning in 1998 as directed by Congress. For South Korea, it is the potential financial and socioeconomic impact of the successful construction, licensing and operation of a low and intermediate level waste disposal facility on the siting of a spent fuel/high level waste repository. For Taiwan, it is the operational impact of the Kuosheng 1 reactor running out of space in its spent fuel pool. From these, it draws six broad lessons other countries new to, or preparing for, nuclear energy production might take from these experiences. These include conservative planning, treating the back-end of the fuel cycle holistically and building trust through a step-by-step approach to waste disposal.

Supplies of wood chips for fuel tend to increase owing to energy decentralization and new renewable energy policies. This study suggests a technical method that is necessary in order to supply heating energy to rural regions by using wood chips for fuel. Therefore, this study investigates the effects of natural drying methods for eight months by installing a drying facility with natural ventilation capable of loading 10 tons of wood chips, and which derive a natural drying method based on this to meet the quality standards of wood chips for fuel. The study results confirm that it is possible to produce wood chips for high-quality fuel with water content at 20% or less after around 90 days of drying, provided that a drying facility with natural ventilation is equipped with materials that can be procured easily in rural regions. It is also possible to block the proliferation and fermentation of molds that affect the quality of wood chips, provided that intake and exhaust systems adhering to standards are equipped.

Zero energy building was attended for energy consumption minimization by the energy saving technology about building heating and cooling energy consumption and the renewable energy production facility. So the government has supported the zero energy building supply for decreasing green gas emissions. The study about inventory of zero energy building has many proceeding. That inventory need the information of material and equipment. So information of material and equipment about zero energy building must be included for the zero energy building realization. Actually the database of zero energy building inventory construction through the inventory established studies has difficult because the database need many information. In this study, author proposed the test methods and performance reference for upload at inventory. It was constructed to material - module - package. Also the author analyzed the construction of the technical package for zero energy building. The author separated performance category to the energy performance for energy analysis and other performance for confirmed the durability, stability and etc. This performance category proposed the table. The test methods of material and equipment in the passive package and active package proposed to the international standard and korea standard basically korea standard. Also the performance reference was proposed to korea legal standard and various standard by this study results. And the authors proposed the table of performance value, test methods, performance reference. By result of this study, the test methods and performance reference will be used the basic data for inventory of zero energy building.

Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) has started the nation's first biogas-microturbine project in the city of Gongju as an effort to encourage the utilization of wasted biogas containing useful energy source in the form of $CH_4$. The goal of the project is to set up the biogas microturbine co-generation system for utilizing biogas as an energy source and improving the economics of the wastewater treatment plant. Wastewater treatment processes were investigated in depth to find improvement possibility. Changes in internal recirculation ratio and pre-treatment degree are needed to optimize plant operation and biogas production. Biogas pre-treatment system satisfies Capstone's fuel condition requirement with the test result of 99.9% and 90.2% of hydrogen sulphide and ammonia is removal performance. Installation of microturbine and manufacture of heat exchanger to warm anaerobic digester has been done successfully. Expected economic profit produced by the system is coming from energy saving including electricity 115,871kWh/year and heat contained in exhaust gas 579GJ/year.

The purpose of this study is to develop hybrid energy blocks with piezoelectric and electromagnetic induction method. The developed energy block is able to be applied to the housing and facilities in the city and is suitable to adjust the characteristics of facilities. To develop the hybrid energy block, we analyzed the characteristics and requirements of various energy block types and drew improvement and application method to develop energy blocks. We compared and analyzed the characteristics and performance of the prototype energy blocks and the developed hybrid energy blocks. According to result of the comparison and analysis, the developed energy block shows higher performance of 12.7 times for adding one vibration and 28.9 times for five consecutive vibrations than that of a existing prototype energy block. This is consistent with research purposes for W-level electrical energy production. Thus, the new energy block will likely be possible to apply to the housing and urban facility.
Background: The concrete walls inside the vaults of cyclotron facilities are activated by neutrons emitted by the targets during radioisotope production. Reducing the amount of radioactive waste created in such facilities is very important in case they are decommissioned. Thus, we proposed a strategy of reducing the neutron activation of the concrete walls in cyclotrons during operation. Materials and Methods: A polyethylene plate and B-doped Al sheet (30 wt% of B and 2.5 mm in thickness) were placed in front of the wall in the cyclotron room of a radioisotope production facility for pharmaceutical use. The target was Xe gas, and a Cu block was utilized for proton dumping. The irradiation time, proton energy, and beam current were 8 hours, 30 MeV, and $125{\mu}A$, respectively. To determine a suitable thickness for the polyethylene plate set in front of the B-doped Al sheet, the neutron-reducing effects achieved by inserting such sheets at several depths within polyethylene plate stacks were evaluated. The neutron fluence was monitored using an activation detector and 20-g on de Au foil samples with and without 0.5-mm-thick Cd foil. Each Au foil sample was pasted onto the center of a polyethylene plate and B-doped Al sheet, and the absolute activity of one Au foil sample was measured as a standard using a Ge detector. The resulting relative activities were obtained by calculating the ratio of the photostimulated luminescence of each foil sample to that of the standard Au foil. Results and Discussion: When the combination of a 4-cm-thick polyethylene plate and B-doped Al sheet was employed, the thermal neutron rate was reduced by 78%. Conclusion: The combination of a 4-cm-thick polyethylene plate and B-doped Al sheet effectively reduced the neutron activation of the investigated concrete wall.
Natural gas hydrates (NGH) provide 170 gas volumes per unit volume of the medium and are easier to make with moderate pressure and temperature (40 bar at 3 C). Once they form, their preservation temperature is 20 C at 1 bar, which is much milder than the LNG preservation. In case of using the NGH, The small and medium sized gas well has advantages for development because of NGH's these characteristics. According to the cost evaluation report of Gudmundsson in Norway and the research of MES in Japan, the gas well that uses the NGH has a cost saving effect about 10~20% compared LNG. The effect depends on distance and production. However, cost saving and efficiency of liquefaction process is increased by the development of LNG liquefaction technology. Therefore, these factors have to be reflected in economic analysis. The purpose of this research is to compare the cost of Gas Supply Chain according to the transport type, distance and gas reserves. Especially, we consider not only the cost of facility but also the total cost (production cost, transport cost, etc).

The radioactive Carbon, C-14, although present in small amount, emits a high energy(up to 0.156MeV) $\beta$ ray and has extremely long half-life(5730years). So special monitoring and management on its generation and discharge is inevitable. A PHWR, due to its own specific designs generates about six times as much C-14 as a PWR does and over 90% of the discharged C-14 comes from the Moderator system and discharged in to the environment through the process of periodic purging of the moderator cover gas system. The present study focussed on the development of effective C-14 scrubber and after production of a test facility and experiments using it, we found that our test facility is very efficient in $CO_2$ removal.
