  • Throughput improvement problem in wireless mesh network can be alleviated by equipped mesh router with multiple radios tuned into orthogonal channels. However, some links on the same channel also can be activated concurrently if the Signal-to-Noise and Interference Ratio (SNIR) at their receiver endpoints is not lower than the threshold. We propose a greedy algorithm to investigate the problem of how to schedule a set of feasible transmission under physical interference model by using the spatial time-division multiple-access (STDMA) scheme. We also consider the fairness in scheduling to prevent some border nodes from starvation. We evaluate our algorithms through extensive simulation and the results show that our algorithms can achieve better aggregate throughput and fairness performance than 802.11 standard.

  • When the shorelines were contaminated by oil, oiled shorelines were assessed systematically by SCAT and guideline of cleanup activities and shorelines treatment endpoints based on SCAT were established and operated in case of well developed countries like USA and Canada. However, shorelines cleanup assessment technique are not established clearly in our country. In this study, we studied on the shorelines cleanup assessment technique suitable for Korean shorelines feature. That is, composition of SCAT organization, classification of shorelines and division of oiled shorelines by segment that are elements of SCAT were studied, and we suggest the measures related to above elements suitable for shorelines feature of our country.

  • In this paper, a method of generating trajectories in real time for a mobile robot in a dynamic environment is proposed. Specifically, this method is focused on soccer-playing robots that need to calculate trajectories in real time, which are constantly subject to rapidly change as targets and obstacles move. The robots also should move at the fastest available speed, while tracking the generated trajectories. The method proposed in this paper solves the geometric problem of finding a smooth curve that joins two endpoints. To have this solved, we assign five constraints to each endpoint, which are the usual x, y, theta, and curvature as well as the influence of the initial robot velocity on the path. With these five constraints, the path generated can always be physically followed by robot. Through this method, the travel time of the robot over the entire path can b optimized. Therefore it can ...

  • Various types of B-ISDN bearer connection can take place according to access types of endpoint equipments in call and number of connectio between endpoints. In this paper, performance of application signalling protocol on three basic facilities of B-ISDN CS-2 signalling system, such as connection of point-to-point, point-to-multipoint and multiconnection call, is evaluated and compared. For performacne evaluation, experimental model of B-ISDN application signalling protocol is implemented and respective message processing time of each process is measured. By applying message processing time to local exchange system, cal processing capacity of application signalling protocol on three basic connection types is evaluated by simulation method. In this paper, local exchange system is considered to have two ATM NNI links and four ATM UNI links.

  • We propose the area between a pair of non-self-intersecting 2-D parametric curves with same endpoints as an alternative distance metric between the curves. This metric is used when d curve is approximated with another in a simpler form to evaluate how good the approximation is. The traditional set-theoretic Hausdorff distance can he defined for any pair of curves but requires expensive calculations. Our proposed metric is not only intuitively appealing but also very easy to numerically compute. We present the numerical schemes and test it on some examples to show that our proposed metric converges in a few steps within a high accuracy.

  • In this paper, we consider multi-degree reduction of $B{\acute{e}}zier$ curves with continuity of any (r, s) order with respect to $L_2$ norm. With help of matrix theory about generalized inverses we can use Lagrange multipliers to obtain the degree reduction matrix in a very simple form as well as the degree reduced control points. Also error analysis comparing with the least squares degree reduction without constraints is given. The advantage of our method is that the relationship between the optimal multi-degree reductions with and without constraints of continuity can be derived explicitly.

  • Objectives: QSAR methodology was applied to explain two different sets of acceptable daily intake (ADI) data of 74 pesticides proposed by both the USEPA and WHO in terms of setting guidelines for food and drinking water. Methods: A subset of calculated descriptors was selected from Dragon$^{(R)}$ software. QSARs were then developed utilizing a statistical technique, genetic algorithm-multiple linear regression (GA-MLR). The differences in each specific model in the prediction of the ADI of the pesticides were discussed. Results: The stepwise multiple linear regression analysis resulted in a statistically significant QSAR model with five descriptors. Resultant QSAR models were robust, showing good utility across multiple classes of pesticide compounds. The applicability domain was also defined. The proposed models were robust and satisfactory. Conclusions: The QSAR model could be a feasible and effective tool for predicting ADI and for the comparison of logADIEPA to logADIWHO. The statistical results agree with the fact that USEPA focuses on more subtle endpoints than does WHO.

  • In the previous review, the physical aspect of heavy particles, with a focus on the carbon beam was introduced. Particle beam therapy has many potential advantages for cancer treatment without increasing severe side effects in normal tissue, these kinds of radiation have different biologic characteristics and have advantages over using conventional photon beam radiation during treatment. The relative biological effectiveness (RBE) is used for many biological, clinical endpoints among different radiation types and is the only convenient way to transfer the clinical experience in radiotherapy with photons to another type of radiation therapy. However, the RBE varies dependent on the energy of the beam, the fractionation, cell types, oxygenation status, and the biological endpoint studied. Thus this review describes the concerns about RBE related to particle beam to increase interests of the Korean radiation oncologists' society.

  • Let G = (V, E) be a simple undirected graph. The Minimum Vertex Cover (MVC) problem is to find a minimum subset C of V such that for every edge, at least one of its endpoints should be included in C. Like many other graph theoretic problems this problem is also known to be NP-hard. In this paper, we propose a genetic algorithm called LeafGA for MVC problem and show the performance of the proposed algorithm by applying it to several published benchmark graphs.

  • The presence of cracks changes the water content pattern during seepage through a cracked soil as compared to that of intact soil. In addition, several different crack networks may form in one soil type. These two factors result in a variation of water contents in the soil matrix part of a cracked soil during seepage. This paper presents an investigation of the effect of crack network representation on the water content of the soil matrix part of cracked soil using numerical models. A new method for the numerical generation of crack networks incorporating connections among crack endpoints was developed as part of the investigation. Numerical analysis results indicated that the difference in the point water content was large, whereas the difference in the average water content was relatively small, indicating the uniqueness of the crack network representation on the average water content of the soil matrix part of cracked soil.
