  • Due to the advancement of mobile wireless networks, various LBS's (Location Based Service) with the knowledge of mobile station's current position are emerging. Providing LBS is very essential feature in Mobile WiMAX networks such as WiBro networks for their competitiveness. To this end, WiMAX Forum has established recently the network architecture and protocols for providing LBS and they are included in the Network working group's release 1.5 documents. Though there have been many research efforts on location determination in Wibro networks, none of them addresses the location determination mechanism complying to Forum's recent LBS standards. This paper proposes an enhanced TDOA-RTD combined location determination mechanism, which complies to the Forum's LBS architecture.

  • Decay kinetics of Ga(5s), Ga(5p) and Ga(4d) atoms in Ar were studied by laser induced fluorescence technique. Theground state gallium atoms in the gas phase were generated by pulsed dc discharge of trimethyl gallium and argon mixtures. Both pulsed discharge and YAG-DYE laser system were controlled by a dual channel pulse generator and the delay time between the end of discharge and laser pulses was set 3.0-6.0 ms. The Ga(5s) and Ga(4d) atoms were generated by single photon excitation from the ground state Ga atoms and radiative lifetimes as well as the total quenching rate constants in Ar were obtained from the pressure dependence of the fluorescence decay rates. The Ga(5p) atoms were populated by a two-photon excitation method and the cascade fluorescence from Ga(5s) atoms were analyzed to extract quenching rate constant of Ga(5p) atoms by Ar in addition to radiative lifetimes of Ga(5p) state. The magnitudes of the quenching rate constants by Ar for the low-lying excited states of Ga atoms are 1.6-3$ {\times}10^{-11}cm^3$ molecul$e^{-1}s^{-1}$, which are much larger than those for alkali, alkaline earth and Group 12 metals. Based on the measured rate constants, kinetic simulations were done to assign state-to-state rate constants.

  • This study quantitatively analyzes the work performance of the structural safety diagnosis team that diagnoses pipe racks. To this end, a method for evaluating the performance of the structural safety diagnosis team using the queuing model was proposed. For verification, the case of applying the existing method and the method of introducing a 3D laser scanner for one site was used. The period, number of people, and initial investment cost of each project were collected through interviews with case project experts. As a result of analyzing the performance of the structural safety diagnosis team using the queuing model, it was possible to confirm the probability of delay in the work of each project and the amount of delayed work. Through this, the cost (standby cost) when the project was delayed was analyzed. Finally, economic analysis was conducted in consideration of the waiting cost, labor cost, and initial investment cost. The results of this study can be used to decide whether to introduce 3D laser scanners.

  • The constructions of engineering structures such as airports, highways and railway on clayey soils may create many problems. The economic losses and damages caused by these soils have led researchers to do many studies using different chemical additives for the stabilization of them. Lime is a popular additive used to stabilize the clayey soils. When the base course is stabilized by mixing with an additive, inevitable delays may occur during compaction due to reasons like insufficient workers, breakdown of compaction equipment, etc. The main purpose of this study is to research the effect of compaction delay time (7 days) on the strength, compaction, and dynamic properties of a clay soil stabilized with lime content of 0, 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15% by dry weight of soil. Compaction characteristics of these mixes were determined immediately after mixing, and after 7 days from the end of mixing process. Within this context, unconfined compressive strength (UCS) under the various curing periods (uncured, 7 and 28 days) and dynamic triaxial tests were performed on the compacted specimens. The results of UCS and dynamic triaxial tests showed that delayed compaction on the strength of the lime-stabilized clay soil were significantly effective. Especially with the lime content of 9%, the increase in the shear modulus (G) and UCS of 28 days curing were more prominent after 7 days mellowing period. Because of the complex forms of hysteresis loops caused by the lime additive, the damping ratio (D) values differed from the trends presented in the literature and showed a scattered relationship.

  • The efficiency of genetic algorithm may be improved, as genetic generation increases. However, a number of algorithms are needed until desired results are obtained. In addition, if Hoc unit increases when linked to a network, there may be a need to compare with all the cases, which would result in many algorithms at a time, and if a single process deals with such algorithms, the efficiency will decrease. Therefore, efficiency of overall network will be decreased in the end. Proposal algorithm in this thesis introduced cells, units of router group, for distributed processing of previous genetic algorithm. This thesis presented ways to reduce search delay time of overall network through cell-based genetic algorithm.

  • To make the network energy efficient and to protect the network from malignant user's energy efficient grid based secret key sharing scheme is proposed. The cost function is evaluated to select the optimal nodes for carrying out the data transaction process. The network is split into equal number of grids and each grid is placed with certain number of nodes. The node cost function is estimated for all the nodes present in the network. Once the optimal energy proficient nodes are selected then the data transaction process is carried out in a secured way using malicious nodes filtration process. Therefore, the message is transmitted in a secret sharing method to the end user and this process makes the network more efficient. The proposed work is evaluated in network simulated and the performance of the work are analysed in terms of energy, delay, packet delivery ratio, and false detection ratio. From the result, we observed that the work outperforms the other works and achieves better energy and reduced packet rate.

  • The DDS (Data Distribution Service) specification defines a discovery method for finding participants and endpoints in a DDS network. The standard discovery mechanism uses the multicast protocol and finds all the endpoints in the network. Because of using multicasting, discovery may fail in a network with different segments. Other problems include that memory space wastes due to storing information of all the endpoints. The Topic Name Service (TNS) solves these problems by unicasting only the endpoints, which are required for communication. However, an extra delay time is inevitable in components of TNS, i.e, a front-end server, topic name servers, and a terminal server. In this paper, we analyze the performance of TNS. Delay times in the servers of TNS and time required to receive endpoint information are measured. Time to finish discovery and number of receiving endpoints compare with the standard discovery method.

  • Reducing handoff latency is essential in providing seamless multimedia service in Wireless LAN based on the IEEE 802.11 standard. Reducing authentication delay is critical in reducing handoff latency. To this end, several authentication protocols for fBst handoff have been proposed. Mishra et al. used proactive key distribution to improve the authentication delay incurred in the current standard and Park et al. proposed a new authentication protocol based on Blom's key pre-distribution scheme. In this paper, we propose an enhanced authentication protocol based on Bresson et al.'s group key protocol. If a mobile node has previously access the network, our proposed protocol only requires simple hash operations in providing mutual authentication between a mobile node and access points. Our protocol is more efficient than Park et al.'s and Mishra et al.'s technique can be used in our protocol to further enhance our protocol.

  • An automatic freeway bus-only lane enforcement system was developed and assessed in a real-world environment. Observation of a bus-only lane on the Youngdong freeway, South Korea, revealed that approximately 99% of the vehicles violated the high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane regulation. However, the current enforcement by the police not only exhibits a low enforcement rate, but also induces unnecessary safety and delay concerns. Since vehicles with six passengers or higher are permitted to enter freeway bus-only lanes, identifying the number of passengers in a vehicle is a core technology required for a freeway bus-only lane enforcement system. To that end, infrared cameras and the You Only Look Once (YOLOv5) deep learning algorithm were utilized. For assessment of the performance of the developed system, two environments, including a controlled test-bed and a real-world freeway, were used. As a result, the performances under the test-bed and the real-world environments exhibited 7% and 8% errors, respectively, indicating satisfactory outcomes. The developed system would contribute to an efficient freeway bus-only lane operations as well as eliminate safety and delay concerns caused by the current manual enforcement procedures.

  • Gas turbine engines are widely used as prime movers of generator and propulsion system in warships. This study addresses the problem of designing a DS-based PID controller for speed control of the LM-2500 gas turbine engine used for propulsion in warships. To this end, we first derive a dynamic model of the LM-2500 using actual sea trail data. Next, the PRC (process reaction curve) method is used to approximate the first-order plus time delay (FOPTD) model, and the DS-based PID controller design technique is proposed according to approximation of the time delay term. The proposed controller conducts set-point tracking simulation using MATLAB (2016b), and evaluates and compares the performance index with the existing control methods. As a result of simulation at each operating point, the proposed controller showed the smallest in %OS, which means that the rpm does not change rapidly. In addition, IAE and IAC were also the smallest, showing the best result in error performance and controller effort.
