  • Purpose: The purpose of this article was to describe feminism and to propose the integration of a feminist method into qualitative nursing methodology in order to expand the body of nursing knowledge. Method: The world view of feminism including philosophy, epistemology and methodology was outlined, and a feminist grounded theory and feminist ethnography were suggested as a way of strengthening nursing research methodology using literature review. Results: Four different philosophical perspectives of feminism, that is, liberal feminism, radical feminism, Marxist feminism, and social feminism were described. Also epistemological perspectives including feminist empiricism, feminist standpoint, and postmodem feminism, were explained and were related to the methodology and methods of feminism. To enhance the strengths of nursing research within the feminist perspectives, feminist grounded theory and feminist ethnography were exemplified in the paradigm of qualitative nursing research. Conclusion: This paper suggested that incorporation of feminist approaches within nursing is a valuable attempt to expand the body of nursing knowledge and to enhance the quality of nursing care services by rectifying male-oriented knowledge and by empowering women in the care of other people as well as themselves.

  • The design and manufacture of injection molded polymeic parts with desired mechanical properties is a costly process dominated by empiricism, including the modification of actual tooling. This paper presents an interactive computer-based design system for injection molded plastic parts. This knowledge-based synthesis system provides a rational design strategy for injection molding and molded parts. It synergistically combines a rule-based expert system for hurestic knowledge with analytical process simulation programs. The theremomechanical properties of a molded part such as the effect of molecular orientation and weldline strength are predicted by the analysis programs; while the expert system interprets the analytical results from the process simulation, evaluates the design, and generates recommendations for optimal design alternatives. The heuristic knowledge of injection molding is formalized as production rules of the expert consultation system.

  • The major purpose of this study is to show the insufficiency of traditional epistemology and consructivism as epistemology of mathematics education. Traditional epistemology such as empiricism, rationalism, Kant's epistemology, and Piaget's genetic epistemology is not sufficient to explain episteme in educational situation because it regards that epsteme is the phenomenon occurs between the abstract individual subject and the object world. Modern epistemology like constructivism recognize the public or social character of epsteme. So it is more appreciate than traditional epistemology to explain episteme in math educational situation. But constructivist pedagogy derived from constructivist learning theory has the following important shortcoming: The lack of clear criteria by which instructional effectiveness might be evaluated from a constructivist perspective.

  • The present study develops the given theme “Mathematics and Reality” along two lines. First, we explore the answers, in its various facets, to the following question: How is it possible that mathematics shows such wondrous efficiency when explaining nature\ulcorner In addition to a comparative analysis between empiricism and rationalism, constructivism as a function of idealism is compared with realism within the frame provided by rationalism. The second step involves limiting our discussion to realism. We attempt to explain the various stages of mathematical realism and their points of difficulty. Postulate of parallels, Godel's theorem, continuum hypothesis and choice axiom are typical examples used in demonstrating undecidable propositions. They clearly show that it is necessary to mitigate the mathematical realism which depends on bivalent logic based on an objective exterior world. Lowenheim-Skolem theorem, which states that reality is composed not of one block but rather of diverse domains, also reinforces this line of thought. As we can see the existence of undecidable propositions requires limiting the use of reductio ad absurdum proof which depends on the concept of excluded middle. Consequently, it becomes obvious that bivalent logic must inevitably cede to a trivalent logic since there are three values involved: true, false, and undecidable.

  • The design and manufacture of injection molded polymeric parts with desired properties is a costly process dominated by empiricism, including the repeated modification of actual tooling. This paper presents an expert design evaluation system which can predict the mechanical performance of a molded product and diagnose the design before the actual mold is machined. The knowledge-based system synergistically combines a rule-based expert system with CAE programs. Heuristic knowledge of injection molding is formalized as rules of an expert consultation system. The expert system interprets the analytical results of the process simulation, predicts the performance, evaluates the design and generates recommendations for optimal design alternatives.

  • This study is to examine and classify the phasic characteristics of organic thoughts in modern architecture. Organic architects have applied organic thoughts to solutions for the problems of each period in architecture since modern times. As results of this study, the architecture of organic thoughts from 1850s to 1940s could be divided into two phases. The phasic characteristics of the first phase from 1850s to 1910s was physical resemblance in real or fantastic appearance that the work of art and architecture should imitate organic forms from the view of solid empiricism. The phasic characteristics of the second phase from 1920s to 1940s was organic growth that the form appropriate to a work of art and architecture should grow from the nature of the problem itself as a system in nature grows from the view of pragmatism and was organic unity that the form and function or the form and content of a work of art should be inseparably integrated as the form in nature should grow out of the inner nature of the thing and be an expression of that inner nature from the view of expressive theory.

  • Fluid-dynamic design of fluid machinery had heavily relied on empiricism and experimental observations for many years. Since 1980s, thanks to the advancements in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), a variety of flow physics have been revealed. The contribution by CFD is indispensable; however, the challenge is required not only on the advancements in CFD technologies but also innovation of "design (optimization) technologies" because of the complex interactions between 3-D flow fields and the complex 3-D flow passage configurations, etc. This paper presents historical perspective on fluid machinery flow optimization in an industry with some messages for the future.

  • The objective of this paper is to reveal that the formation of Deleuze's system is a result of a back flow of the 'ideal of pure reason' in Kant's system. I will try to seize upon the keyword in his main book, Difference and Repetition, and examine the aspect of mutual transformation between Deleuze's transcendental empiricism and Kant's transcendentalism. When analyzing Deleuze's system, most researchers tend to focus on anti-Hegelianism, but it is proper that Kant be adopted as the start when tracing the way of deployment directly. Fundamentally, Deleuze is different from Hegel in his approach to observing entire ground of thought. Even if Deleuze surely has the capability of becoming in the dialectical context, his systemic environment wherein dialectics is applied is different even at the onset. While Hegel follows the way of origin and copy or a system that begins from a preceding point of origin, Deleuze follows a way of copy and recopy or a system that begins without a point of origin. This characteristic of Deleuze's system originates directly from idealistic play. In fact, we can anticipate and identify in his book that he refers to Kant who accepted the tradition of empiricism. Therefore, the main contents of this paper is to present an overview of Kant's influence on Deleuze's system. While tracing ideas back to Kant's system, the cohabitation of empiricism and rationalism, which Kant felicitously revoiced, there emerges a definitude of world recognition. This occurs through cohabitation, and this is both deconstructed and integrated by Deleuze, and therein definitude is turned into a vision of prosperity. To the vision of prosperity that spans definitude to recognition, a philosopher has the right to select a philosophical system because selection methodology in philosophy is not a problem of legitimacy so much as the needs of the times. Deleuze's choice resulted in the opening of pandora's box in an abyss and secret contents have in turn risen sharply.
