Data from 336 people joining Chungcheongnam-do social welfare center were collected by structured questionnaires, and data analysis for hypothesis testing was analyzed using regression analysis. The results of this study showed that behavior, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control and the empathy with staff of those who utilize social welfare center senior education program had a great impact on the intention to use.

  • In this study, a program was developed and implemented for middle school students in the 'Healthy Family Relations' of the home economics based on design thinking process. The purpose was to investigate whether a significant difference is displayed in terms of empathy ability improvement among middle school students. For this purpose, a "Wise 'stay-at-home' life" program comprised of five class sessions was developed based on design thinking process. The program was implemented to male and female students in the second year of middle school, and students' empathy ability was examined by a pre- and post-test comparison. As a result, the developed program was found to have generated a significant improvement in cognitive empathy among middle school students. In addition, the students' satisfaction with the class was generally positive. In particular, many students mentioned that they were interested in activities such as 'empathizing through Instagram' and 'creating a sub-character'. However, there also was an opinion that the lesson activities were difficult to complete due to the lack of time and restrictions on cooperative activities due to COVID-19. In this research, we developed a program that can be used in both face-to-face and non-face-to-face situations in order to flexibly deal with situations where the learning environment changes due to COVID-19. And this research is significant particularly in that it confirmed that home economics have a positive influence on improving middle school students' empathy ability, particularly the cognitive factor of empathy.

Method: Participants consisted of 84 entire 1st year students of a nursing college. Variables included self-esteem, empathy, interpersonal relationship and demographic variables. Data was analyzed by frequencies, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation. Results: Satisfaction in nursing science of the subjects was 97.5% above average, Self understanding of the subjects was 93% above average. There were significant difference in self-esteem, empathy and interpersonal relationship among satisfaction in nursing science and self understanding of the subjects. Self-esteem positively correlated to empathy, empathy positively correlated to interpersonal relationship and interpersonal relationship positively correlated to self-esteem. Conclusion: In order to improve core competence in effective communication skills of nursing students, it is important to actively intervene for improving self-esteem and empathy and interpersonal relationship. Therefore, when organizing a communication subject of a nursing college, it is crucial to develop a program that leads to higher learning satisfaction of nursing study by improving self-esteem and empathy and interpersonal relationship skills.

  • This study was undertaken to recommend a dementia education program for college students, and to understand the outcome on knowledge and attitude towards dementia, awareness of aged support, and cognitive-affective empathy. Totally, 40 college students in C city, K do, were enrolled for the study, and divided into two groups of 20 each: experimental group and control group. The experimental group subjects were provided a 12-hour dementia education program; effectiveness of this program has been verified in later studies. Data were collected from November 5, 2018 to December 7, 2018; collection was before, after, and 4 weeks after the program was provided to the experimental group. Control group data were also collected in the same time frame. Data analysis was done using IBM SPSS WIN/21.0, and the percentage, mean and standard deviation were analyzed using Shapiro-Wilks test, $x^2$-test, Fisher's exact probability test, Independent t-test, Friedman test, Mann-Whitney U and Repeated Measure ANOVA. Knowledge of dementia (F=19.80, p<0.001), attitude toward dementia (z=-4.10, p<0.001), and awareness of aged support (F=6.26, p=0.017) had a significant interaction between group and time; however, cognitive-affective empathy showed no correlation (F=1.32, p<0.256). We therefore suggest strengthening the contents of future education program for dementia, developing a customized program for cognitive-affective empathy by considering subject characteristics, and further research verifying the effectiveness of the program.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine 'Design Thinking' based Chemistry Class program as an education strategy for core competence of creative convergence talent. The program stages were modified and supplemented into eight stages, including 'Knowledge Understand', 'Empathy', 'Sharing perspective', 'Ideate', '1st Prototype', '1st Test', '2nd Prototype', and '2nd Test', so that the 'Design Thinking Process in Science Education' can be applied to the chemistry class. Considering the linkage between the 2015 and 2009 revised national curriculum, the achievement criteria were selected, and the lesson plans and student activity sheet were developed according to the themes to be met. Four thematic educational programs were developed and applied to Chemistry I for the second grade of high school students from March to August. The results were verified through qualitative data analysis of the class scene and pre- and post-test based on inventories of 'Empathy' 'STEAM educational competence', 'Problem solving process'. As a result of applying the developed program, 'empathy' showed a significant improvement in empathy with others and empathy with the problem situation. In 'STEAM educational competence', there was a significant enhancement in science and design competence. In the 'problem finding process', the problem definition, problem solution design, and problem-solving review were significantly improved in the 'problem-solving process'. The results of this study provided implications for the applicability of design thinking - based chemistry classes and its educational effect.

  • The research was conducted to investigate the effect of drama education on the empathy and prosocial behavior abilities of middle school students. A total of 45 students participated in this study. Data were obtained through the use of the IRI(Interpersonal Reactivity Index) and the prosocial behavior scales. Those scales were administered to the group of students as a pre-test. Then, drama education was provided for 14 weeks for the group. The same scale was applied again to the group as a post test once the drama education was completed. The t-test on the differences between pre- and post test scores was used to analyze the effects of the program. The results showed that drama education had a statistically significant effect on the empathy and prosocial behavior abilities of students in the group. Finally, this study suggested implications for future performance arts education programs.
