  • In the context of globalization, circulation between cities has become more frequent. The airport is no longer just a place for boarding, disembarking, and transportation, but a public place that serves as the communication function of the "aviation city". The intervention of public art in the airport space not only gives users a sense of space experience, but also becomes a unique carrier for city and country image shaping. The purpose of this paper is to study the emotional value brought by airport public art to users, and to investigate the correlation analysis of public art design elements and user preferences based on this premise. The research methods are machine learning method and SPSS 21.0. The user's emotional value is introduced in the big data evaluation, and the preference and inclination of airport users to various elements of public art are analyzed by questionnaire. Through the research conclusion, the preference and main contradiction of users in the airport for the four dimensions of public art design elements are obtained. • This study employed the Semantic Differential(SD) technique for an empirical analysis of the borrowed landscape-the so-called interaction of landscape between space and nature-in traditional Korean space against the cultural backdrop of confucian ideology. Its findings are as follows: First, the study conducted a comparative analysis of the borrowed landscape between Sarangchae(Men's quarters) and Anchae(Women's quarters) and between Soteuldaemun(A lofty gate) and Sadangdaemun(A gate to an ancestral shrine), using the SD technique. Consequently, their marked distinction in the borrowed landscape were found to illustrate the influence of confucian ideology over spatial composition. Second, both the garden and the sky of Sarangchae appeared more open and dynamic, and soft, and comfortable, and warm compared to Anchae. Also, Soteuldaemun looked more open and dynamic than Sadangdaemun. In conclusion, traditional Korean space applies a monistic view of the world to nature and human beings, thereby embodying a philosophical and aesthetic space where humans enjoy their life in harmony with nature while playing with the landscape in a traditional space.

  • This study investigates the examples of memorials in which participants can communicate and interact. Memorials as an urban public space provide various information and experiences to the visitors. The purpose of this study is to investigate the types of participants' experience and the characteristics of memorial space. The 9 examples of the memorials are selected and analyzed by the experience type of participants. This study summarizes the characteristics of spatial representation of memorials as follow; first, the interactions and communications of participants are main considerations in designing memorials. This study defines three types of participants' experience in memorials as educational, emotional and daily urban experiences. Second, the memorial space providing educational experience has narrative characteristics which are explanatory, representational, hierarchical and figurative. Memorials represent historical events and individuals in figurative ways. Participants in memorials learn the event, mourn for the dead and cure the grief through walking the guided route. Third, the memorial space providing emotional experience is indeterminate and open-ended characteristics which are contemplative, symbolic, and abstractive. While participants try to find the way to walk through and understand the meaning of the abstract forms by themselves, they interface the event and the victims in private and individual ways. Fourth, the memorial space providing daily urban experience is the familiar urban facilities embedded remembrance such as memorial square, bridge and fountain. Symbolism of memorials and effectiveness of urban facilities are engaged into the memorial design. They have functional, participatory, interactive and recreational characteristics. People experience the memorials involuntarily and casually during their daily lives. The memorials with urban facilities can be related to the present and the future of the city as well as the past of the city.

  • The era of fully autonomous vehicles which can travel to their destination completely, is expected to arrive in the near future. The automobile industry will face a huge change in the near future. It makes the industry in the midst of a major turning point, since the automobile was born in the late 1800s. It is expected that the fully autonomous vehicle will be defined as a part of a living space beyond the concept of transportation. However, the existing research on the interior design of the fully autonomous vehicle is insufficient. The purpose of this study is to propose a design method of interior space through analyzing in-vehicle activities, which is a fundamental design element that can satisfy user's emotional experience suitable the concept of living space. For this purpose, the consumer's consciousness about the in-vehicle activity of fully autonomous vehicle was investigated. As a result, domestic consumers perceived the needs of in-vehicle activities related to resting, listening and watching activities such as 'sleeping and resting', 'watching TV and movie', 'listening to music' among 'self - centered' activities. Based on the results of the investigation, this study will suggest a design method of interior design of the fully autonomous vehicle. This study is meaningful, because it is a leading research that suggests new ways of designing interior space by analyzing consumer's needs in a quantitative method.

  • This study is a scientific approach to psychological factors such as emotional stability among various effects of forest resources. In order to carry out this study, the experiment was conducted on the subjects by setting the forest healing space as various spaces. The subjects who participated in this experiment were the students in their twenties and the average age was 22±1.25 years. The subjects were assessed for emotional words through subjective sequence evaluation in different designated forest healing spot. In addition, the emotional states that they actually perceived were measured by measuring the bio-signals to their perceived emotions. BMP, SDNN, VLF, LF, HF, Amplitude, and PPI were used for the bio-signal reaction experiment applied to this study. The results of this experiment were measured by Friedman test and Wilcoxon test for statistical analysis. n this study, 'good', 'clear', and 'uncomfortable' words were found statistically significant at the spot of forest healing space for subjective emotional vocabulary. In addition, SDNN, HF and Amplitude were statistically significant in the results of quantitative bio-signal measurement at each spot in the forest healing space. Based on the results of this study, we can suggest the application direction and strategic utilization plan of forest healing spot and forest resource utilization field. This is not only a guide for the users who use the facility through the spatial facilities and physical requirements for the emotion based forest-healing, but also can be used as a personalized emotional space design aspect.

  • This study analyzed metaphorical characteristics of composite materials in terms of a visual aspect on a new material that is applicable for housing space. The results are as follows. First, the recent trend of housing space tends to stimulate emotions of residents through visual finishing materials, and for this reason, visual expression of a new material that is applicable to finishing materials plays an important role. Second, convertibleness, association and duplicity were selected as items of metaphorical expressions through the precedent studies. Third, most of combinations of materials were shown different from the existing materials in an expressive characteristic of composite materials through analysis, and application of a technology showed a different visual effect of patterns and textures from the existing materials. This implies that visual expression and directing are being attempted using such technology on finishing materials of housing space with development of digital technologies. Fourth, for metaphorical characteristics of composite material for housing space, combination of various materials and a digital technology were applied on convertibleness. For association, a combination of materials that have each different characteristic associated with the third material, and combination with subsidiary material of optical fiber and a digital technology were appled for duplicity. Data obtained from the results of this study has high efficiency in planning finishing materials for emotional housing space in future, and it will be basic data for a study on development of new finishing materials.

  • Unlike traditional lightings, LED lighting is one of objects that sends user an emotional segments through brightness control from various color temperature and dimming control. Also, within present interior lighting environment, emotional researches about traditional fluorescent lamp and newly implemented LED lighting environment are in active progress. Despite the fact adjectives describing emotions and scale modeling have been repeatedly used in many cases for a long time, there seems to be a lack of results in reliability, and there is a limitation for applying into actual lighting design. The purpose of this study is to construct an actual sized test-bed, which is used to draw out one's emotional words of behavior patterns from inner emotional experiences about lighting environment in an office space. Also, having fluorescent lamp and LED lighting as the main test subjects, we have tested emotional parts according to the changes of color temperature and adjective vocabularies chosen from user's action, and we have compared and analyzed the drawn out data.
