Age differences of preference for humanoid AI speakers (얼굴형 인공지능 스피커에 대한 선호의 나이 효과)

  • In this study, we investigated age differences of preference and trust ratings when the appearance of an artificial intelligent speaker resembles a human face. The appearance of the artificial intelligent speaker was presented in seven levels from robot face to human face. In addition, face stimuli were divided into gender (male and female) and age (20s / 60s). Participants evaluated the reliability and likability of each face stimulus on a 7-point scale. The results show that younger adults tend to prefer the face that was halfway between the robot and the human face, while older adults evaluated that the perceived reliability and likability were higher when the stimuli resembled the human face. When asked to choose the most preferred of the four face categories, all participants chose a younger face. However, with additional conditions including emoticon face and empty condition, older adults still preferred human face, while younger adults preferred emoticon face and empty condition. Taken together, older adults are more receptive to human faces than robotic faces in the context of artificial intelligence speakers. Because artificial intelligent speakers can play an important role in the elderly living alone, the present study will be a good reference in the design and development of artificial intelligent speakers for the elderly users.

The Structural Relationship among Trust in MIM, Attitude toward Emoticons, and the Intention to Purchase Emoticons in Kakao Talk (모바일 인스턴트 메신저에 대한 신뢰, 이모티콘 사용 태도와 이모티콘 구매의도 사이의 구조적 관계: 카카오톡 사례)

  • The communication via MIM(Mobile Instant Messenger) has unique characteristics; one of them is use of emoticons. Although using emoticons in MIM is getting a lot of attention from business fields and emoticons markets in MIM is growing rapidly, there are little researches focused on emoticons in MIM in consumer behaviors and marketing area. So, the purpose of this study is to fill this theoretical and practical gap. For this purpose, we explore the effect of and trust in MIM system and attitude toward use of emoticons on purchase intention to emotions in MIM. Our study used structural equation modeling analysis; the results showed that perceived benefits and perceived risk to MIM affected trust in MIM system significantly, more specifically, while perceived benefits affected trust in MIM system positively, perceived risk affected trust in MIM system negatively. We also found that perceived usefulness of emoticon in MIM and flow experience influenced attitude toward use of emoticons positively. Lastly, trust in MIM system and attitude toward use of emoticons had positive effect on purchase intention to emoticons in MIM. The implication and limitations of this study are also discussed.

Relationships between Types of Emotional Words and Abilities of Science-Knowledge Generation in Students' Scientific Observation and Rule-Discovery (과학적 관찰과 규칙성 발견 활동에서 나타나는 감성단어 유형과 과학 지식 생성력과의 관계)

  • The purposes of this study were to analyze types of scientific emotion word and to investigate the relationship between the ISE(Index of Scientific Emotion) and the ability of science-knowledge generation in subjects' scientific observation and rule-discovery. The subjects were asked to perform four scientific tasks. The tasks were developed that are suitable for scientific observation and rule-discovery. In performing tasks, the subjects were asked to describe their generated science-knowledge and scientific emotion through self-report questionnaire, performing each task. The strength of their scientific emotion was also measured using adjective emoticon check lists. In subjects' scientific observing, they showed 33.3% of interest emotion which was the biggest, 15.0% of acceptance emotion, and 11.3% of love emotion, respectively. In scientific rule-discovering, types of emotion were shown as 23.8% of interest, 21.5% of disgust, and 10.8% of acceptance, respectively. In addition, ability of science-knowledge generation was significantly correlated to ISE.

The Role of Motives, Flow, and Social Influence in Attitude and Purchase Intention to Emoticons (이모티콘 사용동기, 플로우, 사회적 영향력이 이모티콘 사용태도 및 구매의도에 미치는 영향)

  • In recent year, graphic emoticons in MIM(Mobile Instant Messenger) play an important role not as a valuable communication methods, but as main business model for MIM service providers. Although the graphic emoticons in MIM are regarded as a commercial product, there has been little systematic research reflecting consumers' perspectives. In order to fill this theoretical and practice gap, the study is designed to explore the structural relationships among emoticon use motives, attitude, and purchasing intention to emoticons in context of MIM. The results showed that emoticon use motives in MIM were composed of two main factors, perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment. And we also verified that both perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment positively impact flow in communication with using emoticons and social influence. Lastly, flow and social influence were positively related to attitude toward using emoticons and attitude also was related to purchase intention to emoticons in MIM, positively. However, flow and social influence did not have a positive influence on purchase intention to emoticons directly. The implications and limitations of this study are also discussed.

  • Visual communication based on socio-cultural context, such as emoticons on social media, is increasing. Therefore, it is necessary to study the visual expression of metonymy as a means to correctly understand the communication method in the age of visual culture. The purpose of this study is to explore how metonymy is visualized within a cultural context. Specifically, , a typical underlying phenomenon of metonymy expression, and the expression principles of various reproduced through it are identified by pairing them with the cultural context. Based on context theory, which is a representative discourse in the social science field, emoticons from in high context and emoticons in in low context were selected and compared as case study subjects. The major findings are: First, a visual application model of metonymy was proposed regarding the process through which metonymy is reproduced as a visual result. Second, the types of metonymy and their salience attribute applied to the emoticon expression method was identified in detail. Third, based on the contextual theory, how the characteristics of high-context visual metonymy differ from that of low-context visual metonymy were presented. In the future, the results of this study can be used as a criterion for judging the local acceptability and local suitability of design results in the design development process that requires the use of localization strategies.

Comparison of Characteristics of Scientific Emoticons Made by General and Science-Gifted Elementary Students (초등 일반 학생과 과학영재 학생이 만든 과학티콘의 특성 비교)

  • This study compared the characteristics of scientific emoticons made by general and science-gifted elementary students. To do this, fifth graders (n=53) at a general elementary school in Gyeonggi province and fifth graders (n=35) at a gifted science education institute in Seoul were selected. Scientific emoticons written by the students were compared according to the number and types. Analysis of the results reveal that the science-gifted students made more scientific emoticons than the general students for thirty minutes. In the comparison of the types of scientific emoticons, there were some similarities and significant differences between general students and science-gifted students. Overall, however, it was found that science-gifted students made more various types of scientific emoticons than general students in 'form' aspects (e.g., generative form of text, descriptive form of text, and expressive form of image) and 'information' aspects (e.g., emotion, construction level, excess of curriculum level, scientific disciplines, and use of scientific knowledge) of the texts and the images in the scientific emoticons. The scientific emoticons made by general and science-gifted elementary students included very few misconceptions. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

  • In this paper, the pattern of extracting the same expression is proposed by using the Android intelligent device to identify the facial expression. The understanding and expression of expression are very important to human computer interaction, and the technology to identify human expressions is very popular. Instead of searching for the emoticons that users often use, you can identify facial expressions with acamera, which is a useful technique that can be used now. This thesis puts forward the technology of the third data is available on the website of the set, use the content to improve the infrastructure of the facial expression recognition accuracy, in order to improve the synthesis of neural network algorithm, making the facial expression recognition model, the user's facial expressions and similar e xpressions, reached 66%.It doesn't need to search for emoticons. If you use the camera to recognize the expression, itwill appear emoticons immediately. So this service is the emoticons used when people send messages to others, and it can feel a lot of convenience. In countless emoticons, there is no need to find emoticons, which is an increasing trend in deep learning. So we need to use more suitable algorithm for expression recognition, and then improve accuracy.

  • Character of emoticon is considered suitable for expressivity in the digital era mixing and using contents of conversation with images in the course of having a talk with the other party in the mobile space. For the foregoing, this study carried out multiple regression analysis having factors of character attribute such as awareness, friendliness, self-expressivity and image differentiation as independent variables, and purchase intention of purchasers as a dependent variable. Analysis results show that awareness and image differentiation had a positive influence on the purchase intention, whereas friendliness and self-expressivity exerted no significant influence on the purchase intention.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate guidelines for instructional use of e-mail and the method in the present investigation was followed by an analysis of research literatures. This study suggests the following conclusions. First, instructors should use e-mail effectively to improve communication between an instructor and a learner or learners. Communication was essential to support a good instruction. Second, to use effectively e-mail in teaching and learning process, guidelines should followed by considering e-mail characteristics. These guidelines were as follows: (1) Spelling and grammar should be followed correctly. (2) Messages should be followed shortly and concisely. (3) Summaries should be stated in your first sentence. (4) Messages should be responded rapidly. (5) Messages should be responded kindly. (6) Sarcasm and humor should be used carefully.

  • In this paper, an intuitive emotional expression of the 3D avatar is presented. Using the motion selection control of 3D avatar, an easy-to-use communication which is more intuitive than emoticon is possible. 12 pieces different emotions of avatar are classified as positive emotions such as cheers, impressive, joy, welcoming, fun, pleasure and negative emotions of anger, jealousy, wrath, frustration, sadness, loneliness. The combination of lower body motion is used to represent additional emotions of amusing, joyous, surprise, enthusiasm, glad, excite, sulk, discomfort, irritation, embarrassment, anxiety, sorrow. In order to get the realistic human posture, BVH format of motion capture data are used and the synthesis of BVH file data are implemented by applying the proposed emotional expression rules of the 3D avatar.
