  • As the response to climate change becomes a more pressing global issue, so do expectations for climate change in the green information and communication technology (ICT) industry and the possibility of solving environmental problems through ICT. However, because the green ICT industry is still in its early stages, there is little research on it. Understanding the startup ecosystem in the industry is helpful for recognizing innovation trends in emerging technologies such as green ICT. In this regard, this paper investigates the current state and characteristics of the green ICT ecosystem and presents implications based on an examination of startup venture capital investment trends and submarket identification in the green ICT industry as emphasized by the carbon neutrality paradigm shift. The analysis included 4,807 companies and 3,990 funding records, as well as exploratory data analysis and "k-means" clustering techniques.

  • Technological innovation generates products, services, and processes that can disrupt existing industries and lead to the emergence of new fields. Distributed ledger technology, or blockchain, offers novel transparency, security, and anonymity characteristics in transaction data that may disrupt existing industries. However, research attention has largely examined its application to finance. Less is known of any broader applications, particularly in Industry 4.0. This study investigates academic research publications on blockchain and predicts emerging industries using academia-industry dynamics. This study adopts latent Dirichlet allocation and dynamic topic models to analyze large text data with a high capacity for dimensionality reduction. Prior studies confirm that research contributes to technological innovation through spillover, including products, processes, and services. This study predicts emerging industries that will likely incorporate blockchain technology using insights from the knowledge structure of publications.

  • A wide range of studies in various disciplines has focused on the Internet of Things (IoT) and cyber-physical systems (CPS). However, it is necessary to summarize the current status and to establish future directions because each study has its own individual goals independent of the completion of all IoT applications. The absence of a comprehensive understanding of IoT and CPS has disrupted an efficient resource allocation. To assess changes in the knowledge structure and emerging technologies, this study explores the dynamic research trends in IoT by analyzing bibliographic data. We retrieved 54,237 keywords in 12,600 IoT studies from the Scopus database, and conducted keyword frequency, co-occurrence, and growth-rate analyses. The analysis results reveal how IoT technologies have been developed and how they are connected to each other. We also show that such technologies have diverged and converged simultaneously, and that the emerging keywords of trust, smart home, cloud, authentication, context-aware, and big data have been extracted. We also unveil that the CPS is directly involved in network, security, management, cloud, big data, system, industry, architecture, and the Internet.

  • Cloud computing technology based on centralized high-performance computing has brought about major changes across the information technology industry and led to new paradigms. However, with the rapid development of the industry and increasing need for mass generation and real-time processing of data across various fields, centralized cloud computing is lagging behind the demand. This is particularly critical in emerging technologies such as autonomous driving, the metaverse, and augmented/virtual reality that require the provision of services with ultralow latency for real-time performance. To address existing limitations, distributed and edge cloud computing technologies have recently gained attention. These technologies allow for data to be processed and analyzed closer to their point of generation, substantially reducing the response times and optimizing the network bandwidth usage. We describe distributed and edge cloud computing technologies and explore the latest trends in their standardization.

  • Piezoelectric actuators, which utilize piezoelectric crystals or ceramics, are commonly used in precision positioning applications, offering high-speed response and precise control. However, the use of low-performance ceramics and expensive single crystals is limiting their versatile use in the actuator market, necessitating the development of both high-performance and cost-effective piezoelectric materials capable of delivering higher forces and displacements. The use of textured Pb (lead)-based piezoelectric ceramics formed by so-called templated grain growth method has been identified as a promising strategy to address the performance and cost issue. This review article provides insights into recent advances in texturing Pb-based piezoelectric ceramics for improved performance in actuation applications. We discussed the relevant issues in detail focusing on current challenges and emerging trends in the textured piezoelectric ceramics for their reliability and performance in actuator applications. We discussed in detail focusing on current challenges and emerging trends of textured piezoelectric ceramics for their reliability and performance in actuator applications. In conclusion, the article provides an outlook on the future direction of textured piezoelectric ceramics in actuator applications, highlighting the potential for further success in this field.
