  • As much as the popularity of ginseng in herbal prescriptions or remedies, ginseng has become the focus of research in many scientific fields. Analytical methodologies for ginseng, referred to as ginseng analysis hereafter, have been developed for bioactive component discovery, phytochemical profiling, quality control, and pharmacokinetic studies. This review summarizes the most recent advances in ginseng analysis in the past half-decade including emerging techniques and analytical trends. Ginseng analysis includes all of the leading analytical tools and serves as a representative model for the analytical research of herbal medicines.

  • Since its opening in 1992, Sudokwon Landfill has become a landfill in which wastes generated from more than 22 million people are treated and disposed of. Its first phase landfill was closed in 2000 and the second phase landfill is in operation since then. The Korean environmental policies on refuse have drastically evolved for the last decade or so. From merely safe containment of wastes, the utilization of them as a source for energy generation and the minimization of waste volume to be filled in landfills are in the mainstream. Keeping in pace with the new trends, several challenging projects are in their way to blossom in Sudokwon Landfill. This paper briefs some important activities in the landfill. They are (1) geotechnical issues related to the construction and maintenance of the $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ Landfills and (2) landfill gas and bioreactor which are recently emerging in the market.

  • Emerging trends for cardiac tissue engineering are focused on increasing the biocompatibility and tissue regeneration ability of artificial heart tissue by incorporating various cell sources and bioactive molecules. Although primary cardiomyocytes can be successfully implanted, clinical applications are restricted due to their low survival rates and poor proliferation. To develop successful cardiovascular tissue regeneration systems, new technologies must be introduced to improve myocardial regeneration. Electrospinning is a simple, versatile technique for fabricating nanofibers. Here, we discuss various biodegradable polymers (natural, synthetic, and combinatorial polymers) that can be used for fiber fabrication. We also describe a series of fiber modification methods that can increase cell survival, proliferation, and migration and provide supporting mechanical properties by mimicking micro-environment structures, such as the extracellular matrix (ECM). In addition, the applications and types of nanofiber-based scaffolds for myocardial regeneration are described. Finally, fusion research methods combined with stem cells and scaffolds to improve biocompatibility are discussed. [BMB Reports 2016; 49(1): 26-36]

  • The design and construction of supertall buildings has grown dramatically in recent years. This area of practice has traditionally fallen within the purview of a very small group of architects and engineers, but this is rapidly changing, as unprecedented growth and densification has spread to markets not traditionally known for high rise construction. The design community has been increasingly committed to the adoption of green and sustainable design, and the integration of smarter, cleaner technologies across the building spectrum. This paper examines current supertall design trends, and suggests that recently completed and planned projects are trending towards more sustainable solutions, and that a unique set of best practices are emerging specific to Supertalls.

  • Institutional repositories (IR) are promising to be extremely advantageous to scholars especially in developing countries. IR initiatives started in India during the late nineties and the popularity of this concept is growing rapidly in the higher educational and research institutions to disseminate newly emerging knowledge and expertise. The purpose of this paper is to critically analyze the network links of IR websites among four IITs that are registered in open DOAR (Directory of Open Access Repositories) web portal. The Institutional Repositories chosen for the study are IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Bombay, and IIT Kanpur. The analysis of the study focused on standard graph and network cohesion metrics, such as density, diameter, eccentricity and distances, and clustering coefficient; for an even more detailed analysis advanced centrality measures and fast algorithms such as clique census are used.

  • This paper identifies GNSS education and training program under Geomatic field of study. GNSS education programs is evaluated $vis-{\grave{a}}-vis$ new-products. Data on Geomatic knowledge generation in the era of the GNSS derivatives over the 1975 - 2003 period are examined. The emerging trends and patterns; in particular for selected Asian nations will be dissected in detail. The knowledge indicator used in this study is the patent ownership against the background of emergence of new core technologies and innovations in the field of GNSS. Looking at the dismal performance of Geomatic professionals in terms of innovative activities in most part of Asian and Malaysia in particular, is it there is something that holding up these professionals from doing so? With our universities and numerous polytechnics offering Geomatic program, more is expected from them. Is it a problem of lack or inadequacy of skills? Or is it these professionals are too busy and being narrowly focused on doing something else?

  • There has been great effect on development and usage of resources as well as technological development including everyday life pattern to maintain environmental sustainability, Also, It is tend to become negative for people's concern of nature ecosystem toward new technological developments because it is neither environmentally, nor naturally friendly. Therefore, our study is to implement expert education and research system which includes the trends and requests of our society with objectives as follows; First, Training industrial technology and policy maker who can understand and practice ecological ethics. Second, Educating people with expertise which can evaluate and complement the environmental friendliness about new industrial technologies. Third, Educating people who can develop technology which is environmentally friendly. Our new program requires various knowledges and balanced point of view. To this end, students are required to understand field of art and sciences including emerging eco-buddhism subject as well as field of state-of-the art environmental technologies such as recycling technology and clean production technology.
