  • It has recently been shown that hypothermia treatment improves brain ischemia injury and is being increasingly considered by many clinicians. However, the precise roles of hypothermia for brain ischemia are not yet clear. In the present study we demonstrated firstly that hypothermia induced beta-catenin-interacting protein 1 (CTNNBIP1) gene expression and its expression was dramatically decreased under ischemic conditions. It was also demonstrated that hypothermia activated endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress sensors especially both, the phosphorylation of $eIF2{\alpha}$, and ATF6 proteolytic cleavage. However, the factors of apoptosis and autophagy were not associated with hypothermia. These findings suggested that hypothermia controlled CTNNBIP1 gene expression under ischemia, which may provide a clue to the development of treatments and diagnostic methods for brain ischemia.

  • Autoreclosure provides a means of improving power transmitting ability and system stability. Conventional reclosure adopts the fixed dead time interval strategy, where the reclosure is activated after a time delay to restore the system to normal as quickly as possible without regard to the system conditions. However, these simple techniques cannot provide optimal operating performance. This paper presents an adaptive autoreclosure algorithm including variable dead time, optimal reclosure, phase-by-phase reclosure and emergency extended equal-area criterion (EEEAC) algorithm in order to improve system stability. The reclosure algorithm performs the operations that are attuned to the power system conditions. The proposed adaptive reclosure algorithm is verified and tested using ATP/EMTP MODELS, and the simulation results show that the system oscillations are reduced and the transient stability is enhanced by employing the proposed adaptive reclosure algorithm.

  • Continuous on-line temperature monitoring allows corrective measures to be taken to prevent upcoming failure. Continuous temperature monitoring and event recording provides information on the energized equipment's response to normal and emergency conditions. On-line temperature monitoring helps to coordinate equipment specifications and ratings, determine the real limits of the monitored equipment and optimize facility operations. Using wireless technique eliminates any need for special cables and wires with lower installation costs if compared to other types of online condition monitoring equipment. In addition, wireless temperature monitoring works well under difficult conditions in strategically important locations. Wireless technology for on-line condition monitoring of energized equipment is applicable both as standalone system and with an interface with power quality monitoring system.

  • Fire loading causes a critical collapse of RC (Reinforced Concrete) Structures since the embedded steels inside are relative week against high elevated temperature. Several numerical frameworks for fire resistance have been proposed, however they have limitations such as unstable convergence and long calculation period. In the work, 2-D nonlinear FE technique is proposed using Galerkin method for RC structures under fire loading. Closed-form element stiffness with a triangular element is adopted and verified with fire test on three RC slabs with different fire loading conditions. Several simulations are also performed considering fire loading conditions, water contents, and cover depth. The proposed numerical technique can handle time-dependent fire loading, convection, radiation, and material properties. The proposed technique can be improved through early-aged concrete behavior like moisture transport which varies with external temperature.

  • Vomiting in pediatric patient is frequently encountered problem in emergency room or outpatient clinic. In differential diagnosis, age of the patient or accompanying symptoms should be considered in the differential diagnosis. Accurate diagnosis is very important because surgical treatment is necessary in some of the conditions. Imaging diagnosis of conservative modality such as upper gastrointestinal series or colon study is still important radiological examination in the initial differential diagnosis, but recently ultrasonography offers accurate diagnosis in many situations. The cause of vomiting in pediatric are diverse according to the age group :neonatal sepsis, necrotizing enterocolitis, or hypertrophic pyloric stenosis in neonates : gastroesophageal reflux, viral enteritis, or intussusception in infant: midgut volvulus, appendicitis, metabolic disorders, or increased intracranial pressure also an be the cause. knowledge of radiological findings of normal gastrointestinal tract is important to recognize abnormalities. A discussion of radiological findings in variable surgical conditions to present as vomiting in pediatric patients is offered.

  • Among durability tests, the accelerated durability test has been widely used to evaluate the durability of vehicle structure and chassis pans in a shon period of time on the designed road which has severe surface conditions. However it increases the drivers fatigue mainly caused by the severe driving conditions. The drivers difficulty of maintaining constant speed and controlling the steering wheel reduces the reliability of test results. The durability test includes the position and distance sensing system for the recognition of the absolute and relative driving position, the driving control system for the control of whole driving circumstance, the emergency system for responding to system errors. AGVDS (Autonomous Guided Vehicle Driving System) was Proved to facilitate the development of now car projects. Therefore the AGVDS we propose will help make the fundamentals for all future traffic systems.

  • In steel bridges fatigue cracks are sometimes repaired by placing drilled holes at the crack tips. From the meaning that the drilled holes stop the propagation of cracks, they are called stop-holes. Since stop-holes are regarded as an emergency measure to delay crack propagation, usually some substantial repair follows. However, if the stress at the stop-holes is below their fatigue limit, fatigue cracks would not be expected to occur. The purpose of this study is to present the conditions under which stop-holes prevent the reinitiation of fatigue cracks. The fatigue limit of stop-holes and the equations necessary to estimate the maximum stress on the circumference of the stop-holes are provided.

  • Steam stop valves of steam turbine in the power plant are at their 100% position and have no movements. Steam control valves, ie governor valves have no movements either at their controlling position on load limit operation. By the way, if there were no change of operation state, steam valves could be sticked mechanically. Because the governor could fail in protecting and controlling steam turbine in case of emergency conditions, the closing test of 100% valve travel must be accomplished periodically for the purpose of testimony of their good conditions. And, As the difference between steam turbine structures exists according to the manufacturer or generation capacity, both steam stop valves and steam control valves differes in structure and operation method. Therefore, it is essential for not only turbine protection but also control for the control engineers to find out composition of steam valves and method of closing test.
