Variation of brain dynamics under Zen meditation has been one of our major research interests for years. One issue encountered is the inaccessibility to the actual meditation level or stage as a reference. In this paper, we propose an alternative strategy for investigating the human brain in response to external flash stimuli during Zen meditation course. To secure a consistent condition of the brain dynamics when applying stimulation, we designed a recording of flash visual evoked potentials (F-VEPs) based on a constant background EEG (electroencephalograph) frontal $\alpha-rhythm$ dominating activities that increase significantly during Zen meditation. Thus the flash-light stimulus was to be applied upon emergence of the frontal $\alpha-rhythm$. The alpha-dependent F-VEPs were then employed to inspect the effect of Zen meditation on brain dynamics. Based on the experimental protocol proposed, considerable differences between experimental and control groups were obtained. Our results showed that amplitudes of P1-N2 and N2-P2 on Cz and Fz increased significantly during meditation, contrary to the F-VEPs of control group at rest. We thus suggest that Zen meditation results in acute response on primary visual cortex and the associated parts.
This report concerns an unusual case of acute postoperative pulmonary edema without any apparent causes in a 45-year-old man. The patient was subjected to the removal of a previously placed device on the left tibia, and the excision of a benign mass on the right forearm. Unexpected acute bilateral pulmonary edema occurred immediately after the completion of the procedures. The etiologies were reviewed in relation to the patient's condition and clinical manifestations. Fluid overloading was excluded as a cause in view of the patient's perioperative state and postoperative chest X-ray results. We could not find any symptoms of upper airway obstruction during emergence from general anesthesia. We had doubts about tourniquet or fentanyl-induced pulmonary edema, but these factors were not sufficient to bring about pulmonary edema in this case. To our knowledge, the cause of acute pulmonary edema in this case is indeterminate.

In this paper, the authors investigate theoretically the motion and longitudinal strength of ships among waves talking account of the effects of nonlinearities such as the hull shape, bottom emergence, and hydrodynamic impact. Incidentally the ship is treated as an elastic beam in heading wave condition regarding characteristics of slamming and whipping-according to the variation in the range of a quarter length of the ship forward and the increase of the elastic modes up to 4-th vibration mode were investigated by the present theory. Calculations are performed for 97m container ship and its validity is confirmed by a series of model tests. Conclusions obtained are as follows; 1) Acceleration and pressure estimated by the present theory are in good accordance with experiments. 2) The present non-linear theory may be applied for estimating longitudinal bending moment of ships in slamming and whipping conditions. 3) In investigation of the characteristic in response according to shape variation for parts under draft and vow-flare in the range of a quarter length of the ship forward, dynamic responses due to the former were much more conspicuous than those due to the later. 4) In the maximum bending moment, the considering case up to 2-the mode are larger, about $10{\sim}15%$, than that up to 4-th mode.
Sandy loam plots of pH 5.5, which was created by the reclamation of highlands in Yongin county, Kyeonggi province, was selected for the present experimental study. Sugar beet was cultured in these plots by treating them with calcium hydroxide and 3 replications to maintain pH 5.5, 6.4, 6.8, 7.2, and 7.6, respectively. The growth and yield of sugar beet were investigated and the results obtained showed a great deal of boron deficiency. The growth in its early stage was favorable in high pH plots, while no significant difference was observed in sugar content, root weight and sugar production at the time of harvest in each treated plot. The tendency of sugar accumulation appeared to be identical in terms of pattern in each treated plot; i.e. sugar was accumulated until early September but declined momentarily from the middle of September and then the sugar accumulation was resumed from the middle of October. The number of individuals in boron deficiency was larger in high pH plots and the condition of such boron deficiency was also severe. The result of analysis of boron contained in plant body revealed that the boron content of individuals caused boron deficiency by water culture and that occurred in the plots was small alike. The appearance of boron deficiency is characterized by the emergence of black stripes on the surface of the basal part of petiole, severe necrosis of young leaves in the area of growing point and severe wrinkles. Therefore it is felt necessary to pay particular attention to boron deficiency in the culture of sugar beet in our country.

Idiopathic gingival hyperplasia is a rare condition of undetermined etiology. The enlargement is usually associated with the emergence of the teeth into the oral cavity and may regress after extraction. The enlarged gingiva may be primarily attributed to hyperplasia of the subepithelial layer that is relatively avascular and consists of densely arranged collagen bundles and numerous fibroblasts. The recommended time for treatment is after completion of eruption of permanent teeth. But the most important thing is the patient's psychological and esthetic needs. Lately, Schluger has proposed modified gingivectomy procedure with horizontal, internal beveled incision for thinning of the flap resulting in less pain and bleeding after treatment, minimal opportunity of infection. The purpose of this report is to document a case of 8-year-old girl who had registered in Dept. of Pediatric Dentistry of Seoul National University dental hospital for treatment of her gingival hyperplasia and delayed tooth eruption
Conical vortices generated at the corner regions of large-span flat roofs have been investigated by using the Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) technique. Mean and instantaneous vector fields for velocity, vorticity, and streamlines were measured at three visual planes and for two different flow angles of $15^{\circ}$. The results indicated that conical vortices occur when the wind is not perpendicular to the front edge. The location of the leading edge corresponding to the negative peak vorticity and maximum turbulent kinetic energy was found at the center of the conical vortex. The wind pressure reaches the maximum near the leading edge roof corner, and a triangle of severe suctions zone appears downstream. The mean pressure in uniform flow is greater than that under turbulent flow condition, while a significant increase in the fluctuating wind pressure occurs in turbulent streams. From its emergence to stability, the shape of the vortex cross-section is nearly elliptical, with increasing area. The angle that forms between the vortex axis and the leading edge is much smaller in turbulent streams. The detailed flow structures and characteristics obtained through FLUENT simulation are in agreement with the experimental results. The three dimensional (3-D) structure of the conical vortices is clearly observed from the comprehensive arrangement of several visual planes, and the inner link was established between the vortex evolution process, vortex core position and pressure distribution.
Perennial weeds which were grown in transplanted paddy field formed their tubers under shortday condition. Under short day treatment, the induction periods for tuber formation were different depending upon the weed species. 80% cut tubers of the weeds did not loose their developing ability perfectly. Emergence also affected by soil conditions and depths covered.

The effects of the non-steroidal ecdysteroid agonist tebufenozide on larvae of C. faviplumus and C. riparius were tested in the laboratory. In the most treatments it reached a statistically significant difference from the control condition. As the concentration of tebufenozide was increased, a relatively larger proportion of the observed mortality was associated with the metamorphosis and molting process. Also, the larval mortality of the first larvae was higher than the fourth-instar larvae in C. riparius. In terms of development, the effects of tebufenozide were delayed growth stage in relatively lower concentration such as 10 $\mu\textrm{g}$/L treatments. Based on the mortality, the susceptibility followed the first-instar C. riparius > the fourth-instar C. flaviplumus > the fourth-instal C. riparius. The morphological effects showed that the first and second segments of body of exposed larvae with tebufenozide expanded slowly and not made a complete cephalothorax of pupae during long times or days. And the head capsule slipped down and forward, revealing a fragile and non-pigmented, unsclerotized new head capsule. There was obvious significant difference in the male/female ratio in contaminated fourth larvae of C. riparius. Also, due to the different emergence periods of male/female in low insecticide concentrations, mating chances or opportunities of insects should be decreased. Accordingly, ecological strategies for keeping of sustainable populations should be disrupted.
This research put most emphasis on setting the guidelines for improvement through character analysis of landscape ecology to cope with ecological malfunction of the woodland surrounded in cultivated areas. The results are as follows. 1) As a result of character analysis of the woodland in cultivated area in point of landscape ecology in five case sites, the size of case site 3 is the largest as $3,000m^2$ and it is shown that a colony of pine trees which is valuable in terms of ecological, scientific, historic and cultural senses. 2) As a result of analysis on expansibility of woodland in cultivated area, case site 1 is 0.25, the lowest, flexibility is 4, the highest. In order to improve ecological function in woodland, it is regarded that maintaining curve form rather than straight one. 3) As a result of analysis of morphological diversity, case site 5 shows 1.3, the highest. However, the condition of vegetation and emergence frequency of species indicates low value degree. 4) Based on the result of analysis of landscape ecological character like above, the number of guidelines for the woodland in cultivated area is three and vegetation is four.
The emergence of new nanoscale technologies has imposed significant challenges to designing reliable electronic systems in radiation environments. A few types of radiation like Total Ionizing Dose (TID) can cause permanent damages on such nanoscale electronic devices, and current state-of-the-art technologies to tackle TID make use of expensive radiation-hardened devices. This paper focuses on a novel and different approach: using machine learning algorithms on consumer electronic level Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) to tackle TID effects and monitor them to replace before they stop working. This condition has a research challenge to anticipate when the board results in a total failure due to TID effects. We observed internal measurements of FPGA boards under gamma radiation and used three different anomaly detection machine learning (ML) algorithms to detect anomalies in the sensor measurements in a gamma-radiated environment. The statistical results show a highly significant relationship between the gamma radiation exposure levels and the board measurements. Moreover, our anomaly detection results have shown that a One-Class SVM with Radial Basis Function Kernel has an average recall score of 0.95. Also, all anomalies can be detected before the boards are entirely inoperative, i.e. voltages drop to zero and confirmed with a sanity check.
