임베디드 시스템 장착을 위한 USB 장치의 무선화 (Making USB Wireless For Attaching to the Embedded System)

  • USB는 여타 다른 입출력 장치보다 더 자주 그리고 널리 사용되는 장치이다. PC시스템으로 보면 USB는 매우 성공적인 인터페이스 기술이다. PC시스템에서는 벌써 널리 사용되고 있을 뿐만 아니라 소비가전과 이동기기에서도 또한 널리 장착되고 있다. 게다가 USB는 이미 설치된 킬러응용프로그램도 매우 많다. 그렇지만 이런 입출력장치들은 유선으로 인해 사용자불편의 문제점을 가지고 있다. 많은 기기에 설치된 USB 장치를 무선화 시킬 수 있다면 유선화로 인한 스트레스를 줄임과 동시에 널리 사용되고 있는 USB의 사용이 더욱 더 편리해질 수 있을 것이다. 본 논문에서는 USB의 기존기능, 이식성, 멀티미디어 능력 등을 그대로 수용하면서 무선화할 수 있는 소프트웨어적인 방법을 연구한다. 본 논문은 이러한 USB의 무선화 구현에 관한 것이다. 이는 특히 기존 USB 호스트 기능에 내장된 USB 루트허브기능, 호스트 기능, ETD(Endpoint Transfer Descriptor), 데이터 메모리관리 등을 소프트웨어 모듈로 구성하여 유선일 때와 마찬가지 성능으로 지연없이 요구사항을 만족시켜야 한다. 무선화와 무선을 통해 그 기능을 어떻게 구현할 것인가에 대한 현안을 살펴보기로 한다. 이러한 구현은 기존의 USB의 편리한 사용과 시장력을 더 가속화할 것이다.

  • Solar energy harvesting IoT devices prioritize maximizing the utilization of collected energy due to the periodic recharging nature of solar energy, rather than minimizing energy consumption. Meanwhile, research on edge AI, which performs machine learning near the data source instead of the cloud, is actively conducted for reasons such as data confidentiality and privacy, response time, and cost. One such research area involves performing various audio AI applications using audio data collected from multiple IoT devices in an IoT edge computing environment. However, in most studies, IoT devices only perform sensing data transmission to the edge server, and all processes, including data preprocessing, are performed on the edge server. In this case, it not only leads to overload issues on the edge server but also causes network congestion by transmitting unnecessary data for learning. On the other way, if data preprocessing is delegated to each IoT device to address this issue, it leads to another problem of increased blackout time due to energy shortages in the devices. In this paper, we aim to alleviate the problem of increased blackout time in devices while mitigating issues in server-centric edge AI environments by determining where the data preprocessed based on the energy state of each IoT device. In the proposed method, IoT devices only perform the preprocessing process, which includes sound discrimination and noise removal, and transmit to the server if there is more energy available than the energy threshold required for the basic operation of the device.

CC2540을 이용한 시각장애인용 길안내 시스템 설계 및 구현 (Design of CC2540-based Route Guidance System for Visually Impaired Person)

  • There are many assistive devices for the visually impaired. They are becoming smart. In this paper, we propose a device that help route guidance for a visually impaired person. It is composed of a smart phone, cane, and hands-free devices. The smart phone helps a route guidance. The cane detects an obstacle and transmits it to the hands-free device. The hands-free device communicates with a visually impaired person. We here present their architecture, signal flow, configuration, and their circuit diagrams.

모바일 클라우드 스토리지 서비스에서의 데이터 보안을 위한 데이터 접근 제어 및 보안 키 관리 기법 (A Method for Data Access Control and Key Management in Mobile Cloud Storage Services)

  • Cloud storage services are used for efficient sharing or synchronizing of user's data across multiple mobile devices. Although cloud storages provide flexibility and scalability in storing data, security issues should be handled. Currently, typical cloud storage services offer data encryption for security purpose but we think such method is not secure enough because managing encryption keys by software and identifying users by simple ID and password are main defectives of current cloud storage services. We propose a secure data access method to cloud storage in mobile environment. Our framework supports hardware-based key management, attestation on the client software integrity, and secure key sharing across the multiple devices. We implemented our prototype using ARM TrustZone and TPM Emulator which is running on secure world of the TrustZone environment.

네트워크 토폴로지에 따른 CAN-FD 통신 영향성 분석 (Performance Analysis of CAN-FD Based Network Against Network Topology)

  • The most common communication interface for automotive electronic control devices is CAN (Controller Area Network). Sine CAN was first adopted to Daimler vehicles in 1991, all of automobile manufacturers use the CAN communication for in-vehicle networks. However, as the number of electronic control devices connected to the CAN network rapidly increases, the CAN protocol reaches the limit of technology. To overcome this limitation, Bosch introduced the new communication protocol, that is CAN-FD (Flexible Data-rate). In this paper, we analyze the characteristics and limitations of CAN-FD communication according to the topology under the in-vehicle wiring harness environment designed based on the existing classic CAN communication.

협업가능 표준기반 IoT 시스템을 위한 자가적응 IoT 소프트웨어 플랫폼 개발 (Self-adaptive IoT Software Platform for Interoperable Standard-based IoT Systems)

  • In this paper, we present a self-adaptive software platform that enables an IoT gateway to perform autonomous operation considering IoT devices connected each other in resource-constrained environments. Based on the oneM2M device software platform publicly available, we have designed an additional part, called SAS (self-adaptive software) consisting of MAM (memory-aware module), NAM (network-aware module), BAM (battery-aware module), DAM (data-aware module), and DH (decision handler). A prototype system is implemented to show the feasibility of the proposed self-adaptive software architecture. Our proposed system demonstrates that it can adaptively adjust the operation of gateway and connected devices to their resource conditions under the desired service scenarios.

Design of Real-Time CAN Framework Based on Plug and Play Functionality

  • Nowadays most vehicles are equipped with a variety of electronic devices to improve user convenience as well as its performance itself. In order to efficiently interconnect these devices with each other, Controller Area Network (CAN) is commonly used. However, the CAN requires reconfiguration of the entire network when a new device, which is capable of supporting both of transmission and reception of data, is added to the existing network. In addition, since CAN is based on the collision avoidance using address priority, it is difficult that a new node is assigned high priority and eventually it results in transmission delay of the entire network. Therefore, in this paper we propose a new system component, called CAN coordinator, and design a new CAN framework capable of supporting plug and play functionality. Through experiments, we also prove that the proposed framework can improve real-time ability based on plug and play functionality.

  • The compatibility between different automation devices hasn't been difficult any longer while the new standard IEC61850 is imposed which provides efficient implementation on both embedded and non-embedded system. While implementing the substation automation, different devices from different company may be an obstacle to system designing. However, with the help of IEC61850 this problem can be neglected. In this paper the newest development of the demo system based on IEC61850 will be introduced.

매니코어 프로세서 상에서 이산 웨이블릿 변환을 위한 성능 평가 및 분석 (Performance Evaluation and Analysis for Discrete Wavelet Transform on Many-Core Processors)

  • To meet the usage of discrete wavelet transform (DWT) on potable devices, this paper implements 2-level DWT using a reference many-core processor architecture and determine the optimal many-core processor. To explore the optimal many-core processor, we evaluate the impacts of a data-per-processing element ratio that is defined as the amount of data mapped directly to each processing element (PE) on system performance, energy efficiency, and area efficiency, respectively. This paper utilized five PE configurations (PEs=16, 64, 256, 1,024, and 4,096) that were implemented in 130nm CMOS technology with a 720MHz clock frequency. Experimental results indicated that maximum energy and area efficiencies were achieved at PEs=1,024. However, the system area must be limited 140mm2 and the power should not exceed 3 watts in order to implement 2-level DWT on portable devices. When we consider these restrictions, the most reasonable energy and area efficiencies were achieved at PEs=256.

휴대용 멀티미디어 기기에서 메타데이터 활용을 강화한 파일 시스템 구조 (A File System Architecture for Enriched Metadata in Portable Multimedia Devices)

  • In this paper, we developed a file system architecture for portable multimedia devices. To enhance user convenience, the information about the stored files should be easily retrieved and organized. We defined NMD (Networked MetaData), which can organize the files in networked fashion by attaching user-defined attributes and relation between files. The NMD is stored in flash memory to utilize its nonvolatile property and low-power consumption, while multimedia files are stored in hard disk, an inexpensive mass storage. The experimental implementation showed that this architecture was able to save about 10% power compared to the hard disk NMD-store.
