The effect of $0.01{\sim}0.10%$ Sb and Sn on the wear resistance of ductile cast iron was investigated. The hardness was increased with Sb to 0.10%, but the elongation and the impact value were decreased. The tensile strength was increased with up to 0.05% Sb, however decreased with $0.05{\sim}0.10%$ Sb. The hardness and the tensile strength were increased and the elongation was decreased with up to 0.10% Sn. The nodularity of graphite was decreased with above 0.08% Sb however Sn had no effect on that. When the maximum compressive stress was low ($42kg.f/mm^2$), the weigth loss was decreased with increased hardness and when that was high ($54kg.f/mm^2$ and $65kg.f/mm^2$), the weight loss did not depend upon the hardness. The pearlite stabilization with Sb and Sn increased with the wear resistance of ductile cast iron.
For the purpose of investigating the effect of austenitizing temperatures on the mechanical properties of 0.23% C-13.6%Cr martensitic stainless steel, tensile properties, hardness, impact value and carbide extraction were examined after changing the austenitizing temperatures and tempering temperatures. The results obtained are summerized as follows. The carbide laminations formed from hot rolling before austenitization could not be eliminated after austenitizing at $950^{\circ}C$. With increasing austenitizing temperature, hardness increased and showed maximum value at $1050^{\circ}C$ and then slightly decreased. With increasing tempering temperature up to $500^{\circ}C$, impact value and elongation appeard to be decreased but hardness showed nearly unchanged at austenitizing temperature of $1150^{\circ}C$ due to the fine $M_7C_3$ carbides precipitation. The abrupt increase in impact value, hardness and elongation above the tempering temperature of $500^{\circ}C$ appeared to change in carbide structure from fine $M_7C_3$ to coarse $M_{23}C_6$.
In this study, the effect of tempering treatment on the mechanical properties in modified 440A steel has been investigated. The amount of remaining carbide decreased with increasing the austenitizing treatment temperature, and all carbides were completely dissolved at $1250^{\circ}C$. The amount of remaining carbide decreased with increasing the time of austenitizing, but the carbide remained insoluble up to 120 minutes at $1050^{\circ}C$. With increasing the tempering temperature, tensile strength decreased, and elongation increased slowly, while hardness rapidly decreased, and impact value unchanged and then rapidly increased over $500^{\circ}C$. The strength and hardness slowly decreased, while the elongation and impact absorbed energy increased with increasing the tempering time. $Cr_{23}C_6$ type carbide was precipitated and sharp decrease of elongation and toughness by tempering did not appear.
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influences on mechanical properties of motor pistons manufactured by casting, conventional forging and powder forging, using the comparison of characteristics like microstructure, hardness, tensile strength, and elongation. To form conventional forging piston, the experiment of visioplasticity was performed. As the model material, plasticine was used. To form powder forging piston, the shape of piston was simplified as simple cup shape. Material properties like workability, density variation before and after forging, and strain loci of material during forging were investigated. Powder forging and conventional forging technologies were effective to gain dense microstructure. In powder forging, distribution of such dense microstructuer was uniform. For hardness, pistons from powder forging and conventional forging technologies were much better than that from casting. For tensile strength and elongation, powder forging and conventional forging technologies were also advantageous.
The effect of forging start temperature, forging ratio on the microstructure and mechanical properties of B7B4 steel ware investigated. Microstructure of centrifugal casted B7B4 steel consisted of martensite and ferrite phase. The volume fraction of ferrite increased with increase of forging start temperature and decreased with increase of forging ratio. Tensile strength and hardness decreased with higher of forging start temperature, while impact value and elongation increased with higher of forging start temperature. With increase of forging ratio, tensile strength rapidly increased up to the forging ratio of 30%, and then slowly increased, but elongation was decreased. Hardness and impact value rapidly increased with increase of forging ratio.
The physical properties of NR-SBR and NR-BR blends were studied. 1. In blending, tensile strength decreased with increase in synthetic rubber contents. It was most effective when the ratio of NR/Syn. R is 75/25. 2. Tensile strength decreased with order of NR, SBR and BR and modulus after aging is proportional of synthetic rubber contents. 3. Elongation is less influenced by synthetic rubber ratio that on the other hand, the decrease of elongation is proportional to synthetic rubber contents after aging. 4. Hardness decreased with increase in the synthetic rubber contents and on the other hand, the hardness increased after aging.
Nd:YAG laser welding of AZ31B-H24 magnesium alloy was carried out using AZ61 filler wire(Mg-6wt%Al-1wt%Zn). Microstructure and mechanical properties of welded joint were examined by optical microscopy, scanning electronic microscopy(SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS), electron probe micro analyzer(EPMA) and victors hardness, tensile test at the room and elevated temperature. Test results indicate that the specimens welded with AZ61 filler wire have better tensile strength, elongation and victors hardness at room temperature than those of welded without filler wire. However tensile strength are similar but elongation are quite different at elevated temperature.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of hot forging on the hardness and impact value of ultra high carbon low alloy steel. With increasing hot forging ratio, thickness of the network and acicular proeutectoid cementite decreased, and than were broken up into particle shapes, when the forging ratio was 80%, the network and acicular shape of the as-cast state disappeared. Interlamellar spacing and the thickness of eutectoid cementite decreased with increasing forging ratio, and were broken up into particle shapes, which then became spheroidized. With increasing hot forging ratio, hardness, tensile strength, elongation and impact value were not changed up 50%, and then hardness rapidly decreased, while impact value rapidly increased. Hardness and impact value was greatly affected by the disappeared of network and acicular shape of proeutectoid cementite, and became particle shape than thickness reduction of proeutectoid and eutectoid cementite.

Purpose: We investigated the properties of CLEANBOLUS based on silicone with suitable characteristics for clinical use. Methods: We evaluated the characteristics of CLEANBOLUS and compared the results with the commercial product (Super-Flex bolus). Also, we conducted physical evaluations, including shore hardness, element composition, and elongation break. Transparency was investigated through the measured absorbance within the visible region (400-700 nm). Also, dosimetric characteristics were investigated with surface dose and beam quality. Finally, the volume of unwanted air gap was investigated based on computed tomography images for breast, chin, and nose using Super-Flex bolus and CELANBOLUS. Results: CLEANBOLUS showed excellent physical properties for a low shore hardness (000-35) and elongation break (>1,000%). Additionally, it was shown that CLEANBOLUS is more transparent than Super-Flex bolus. Dosimetric results obtained through measurement and calculation have an electron density similar to water in CLEANBOLUS. Finally, CLEANBOLUS showed that the volume of unwanted air gap between the phantom and each bolus is smaller than Super-Flex bolus for breast, chin, and nose. Conclusions: The physical properties of CLEANBOLUS, including excellent adhesive strength and lower shore hardness, reduce unwanted air gaps and ensure accurate dose distribution. Therefore, it would be an alternative to other boluses, thus improving clinical use efficiency.
Effects of Si and Ca additions on the mechanical properties of AM60 based Mg alloys have been investigated. Hardness of the AM60 based Mg alloys reached a maximum value after aging for approximately 33 hours but the amount of hardness increase was negligible. The poor age hardening response of the alloys was due to low Al content, which implies that Al content must be >6 wt.% to observe age hardening effect. The tensile and yield strength increased with increasing Al, Si, and Ca content but elongation decreased with increasing Al and Si content. The best mechanical properties obtained in AM 40-2.5Si-0.2Ca alloy after T4 heat treatment were as follows; tensile strength 193.4 MPa, yield strength 79.2 MPa, and elongation 11.2%. High temperature property obtained from creep test was also improved by introducing $Mg_2Si$ which has high hardness, high melting temperature and low thermal expansion coefficient.
