  • Slotted ALOHA (S-ALOHA) is a classical medium access control protocol widely used in multiple access communication networks, supporting distributed random access without the need for a central controller. Although stability and delay have been extensively studied in existing works, most of these studies have assumed ideal channel conditions or independent fading, and the impact of time-correlated wireless channels has been less addressed. In this paper, we investigate the queueing delay performance in S-ALOHA networks under time-correlated channel conditions by utilizing a Gilbert-Elliott model. Through simulation studies, we demonstrate how temporal correlation in the wireless channel affects the queueing delay performance. We find that stronger temporal correlation leads to increased variability in queue length, a larger probability of having queue overflows, and higher congestion levels in the S-ALOHA network. Consequently, there is an increase in the average queueing delay, even under a light traffic load. With these findings, we provide valuable insights into the queueing delay performance of S-ALOHA networks, supplementing the existing understanding of delay in S-ALOHA networks.

  • Leaf blight of watermelon severely occurred up to 46% in fields at Hwaseong area in Korea during July, 1993. The causal fungus was identified as Alternaria cucumerina (Ellis et Everh.) Elliott. Pathogenicity tests revealed that all the three watermelon cultivars used were susceptible to leaf blight.

  • Highbush blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum), 'Duke', 'Bluecrop', and 'Elliott', were applied with ground cover mulch systems to evaluate bush growth and fruit characteristics. Soil temperature variation was lower in the woodchip mulching plot. Therefore, CEC, soil pH, phosphate, mineral ions were not significantly different among mulching materials. The number of main stem was higher in woodchip > sawdust > rice husk > plastic film mulching plot, respectively. Total shoot number was also higher in organic mulching plots than in plastic film plot. However, total shoot number was not significantly different among the organic mulching plots. Fruit weight was the highest in the woodchip mulching plot of all blueberry cultivars, however, soluble sugar content, organic acidity, fruit firmness were not significantly different in mulching materials. Yield was higher in organic mulching plots than in plastic film plot in all blueberry cultivars. Especially, yield per shrub of woodchip plots was the highest about 3.6 kg in 'Duke', 2.7 kg in 'Bluecrop', and 2.6 kg in 'Elliott'. Furthermore, correlation of main stem number and yield was highly significant (r2 = 0.8413). Therefore, woodchip mulching is expected to be an eco-friendly method to increase the number of stems and the yield of blueberries.

  • In this paper, we study the closedness such as seminomality and t-closedness, and Noetherian-like properties such as piecewise Noetherianness and Noetherian spectrum, of Hurwitz polynomial rings and Hurwitz series rings. To do so, we construct an isomorphism between a Hurwitz polynomial ring (resp., a Hurwitz series ring) and a factor ring of a polynomial ring (resp., a power series ring) in a countably infinite number of indeterminates.

  • Patterns of morphological variation in Polygonum setaceum Baldwin ex Elliott are examined, and the taxonomic significance of the varieties recognized by Fernald is reevaluated. The diagnostic characters used to differentiate the varieties in P. setaceum demonstrate virtually continuous variation, and broad geographic intergradation is recognized. Principal components analyses of major morphological characters also fail to separate the varieties. These results strongly suggest that recognition of var. setaceum, var. interjectum, and var. tonsum by Fernald is unwarranted.

  • High-pixel-density displays are now under development to meet the needs of next-generation mobile devices; methods to more efficiently build such displays are described. Displays based on subpixel rendering and RGBW technologies, known as PenTile $Matrix^{TM}$ RGBW, are shown to offer the best approach to meeting the demanding requirements of low manufacturing cost, high brightness, and low power.

  • Analytical solutions for the viscous Cahn-Hilliard equation are considered. Existence and uniqueness of the solution are shown. The exponential decay of the solution in H$^2$-norm, which is an improvement of the result in Elliott and Zheng[5]. We also compare the early stages of evolution of the viscous Cahn-Hilliard equation with that of the Cahn-Hilliard equation, which has been given as an open question in Novick-Cohen[8].

  • The shape of vertical pattern of base station antenna affects greatly quality of the communication of not only a service zone but also adjacent cells and then it is an important point to be considered in designing cell coverage. Currently type of vertical patterns to be applied to base station antenna are divided into five classes. In designing antenna, these five classes are applied solely or compositely according to the environment to be used antenna. In this paper, the dual polarized antenna for base station that is with a continuous electrical down tilting and with a shaped beam pattern, that an upper side lobe is suppressed and a lower null is filled, is designed and fabricated for synthesizing of the shape beant the pattern synthesis methods proposed by R. S. Elliott is used sequentially and for the electrical don tilting, the phased array theory is applied. Measured results show the down tilting range from 0° to 14°, the gain of Min. 13.3dBi and the upper side lobe of Max. -23dB. And we verified that upper side lobe is not to vary greatly and null filling performance is favorable overall.

  • In this paper, the design of longitudinal shunt slot array monopulse antenna in the broad wall of waveguide for Ka band millimeter-wave seeker, Dip-Brazing method for fabrication and experiment results are presented. The proposed antenna consists of radiating slots by using Elliot's array synthesis procedure, probe-exciting feed structure for improving the return loss bandwidth and monopulse comparator. Element weigthings in the array have been calculated by continuous Taylor aperture distribution. Also, the simulation tool has been used to characterize the individual isolated slot, which has subsequently been used in Elliot's method to design the slot array efficiently. The designed antenna is fabricated using Dip-Brazing method. The gain of measured antenna is 28.4 dBi. Antenna beamwidth and side lobe levels are similar to the design result we expect.

  • As the use of signatures for identification purposes is pervasive in society and has a long history in business, dynamic signature verification (DSV) could be an answer to authenticating a document signed electronically and establishing the identity of that document in a dispute. DSV has the advantage in that traits of the signature can be collected on a digitizer. The research question of this paper is to understand how the individual variables vary across devices. In applied applications, this is important because if the signature variables change across the digitizers this will impact performance and the ability to use those variable. Understanding which traits are consistent across devices will aid dynamic signature algorithm designers to create more robust algorithms.
