  • The attempts in pursuit of humanity in contemporary architecture brought about meaning to the 'Locality as a main conception which opens new potentiality at this confused period. Contemporary housing design should meet the indigenous ‘Locality’ of the building sites environment. An adequate adaptation to the ‘Locality’ will bring more efficient use, lower running-costs, and longer durability of original beauty of the houses. Our contemporary houses should admit general requirements at this time and they should be expressed through not only space but also form and design. Finally, we must find the direction of elevation planning of Korean contemporary houses, inquiring into design elements of ‘Locality’ in the view point of transformation and analyzing how the elements are represented in contemporary houses. This research was aimed to find how to optimize an elevation design of houses in adapting to the Korean indigenous ‘Locality’ in order to create a domestic housing design suitable for Korean life style, however, one cannot ignored elements of the Korean traditional mode of living.

  • Recently due to repeatedly occurrence of flood, a lot of Chinese cities accept new design criteria for their protective project Most of them calculated by a certain type of probability distribution. In order to meet the demand of development economy the return period of design criteria is changed more longer and longer even 1000years, but the data which the calculation dependent on is only about 30-40 years. A Study on Relative Wave Elevation Measurement of KSUPRAMAX-O in Regular Waves (KSUPRAMAX-O 선형의 규칙파 중 상대파고 계측에 대한 연구)

  • This study focuses on measuring the relative wave elevation around the KSUPRAMAX-O ship and comparing it with numerical analysis results (potential and computational fluid dynamics). The relative wave elevation is a good indicator of the pressure distribution on the ship's surface, which is affected by the ship's motion, incident waves, and distributed waves. Prior to measuring the relative wave elevation, a comparative test was conducted on resistance type, capacitance type, and ultrasonic type wave probe to measure the relative wave elevation, and it was confirmed that the resistance type wave probe was suitable for measuring the relative wave elevation. A model test was performed at low speed and design speed using resistance type wave probe and compared with the results of numerical analysis result. As for the motion response, it was confirmed that the result of experiments and the result of the numerical analysis were in good agreement. The relative wave elevation showed a similar trend between the experiment and the computational fluid dynamics, but the potential analysis result showed a difference from the experiment in design speed.

  • In mobile GIS environments, a client needs to receive the isogram data with a topographical map from a server, if the mobile client wants to display map with elevation information. Because the elevation data size is normally quite large, the client will suffer some problems to receive the elevation data from server. The main reason is a resource limitation of the mobile devices. To overcome these problems, this paper proposes new data structures and algorithms. They are designed for efficient transmission of contour data to a client. Because of the contour data are generated as a vector style from elevation information stored at a server, the proposed algorithms are focused to minimize the transmission data volume and time.

  • This paper is a study on using gas springs for reduced friction in the elevation of the large television stand. Target is applied to the operation of the elevation over 50-inch television that uses a gas spring. Gas seal lip technology is needed for development acting on the piston rod in order to obtain a reduction in friction in elevation operation. In order to acting on the gas seal lip technology, the improved friction force can be obtained through the inner diameter of gas seal lip, the design of cutting angle and the changes of material.

  • This research aims to take a close look at the following topics; the ground elevation of playground, equipments of playground, and equipments around playground, and to propose the improvement measure for favorable educational environment. In consideration of the needs mentioned, the following improvement measure for playground can be suggested. First, the elevation of playground should be changed. According to Environment psychology, current playground elevation should be lowered 2 stair-long height from a classroom site. This kind of elevation change can remove unnecessary stairs, and reduces inconvenience incurred by stairs and edges, which results in considerable educational finance saving. Second, the incidental equipment within a playground needs to be improved. This fact is found out at the surveyed schools; school gathering is held at classrooms (through broadcasting) or a multi-purpose auditorium in place of a playground. The results of this study make us conclude that the most important issue to be considered in the processes of selection and investigation for school playground elevation, incidental equipments and others.

Study on Structural Efficiency of Super-Tall Buildings

  • Based on a 405m high super-tall building, the influence of outriggers, different shapes and layouts of structural plane and elevation on structural efficiency under lateral forces is studied in this paper. A calculation formula concerning the structural efficiency is given. The study shows that structural efficiency can be improved by triangulating the plane shape, using mega columns, the peripherization of the plane layout, tapering the elevation shape and setting bracing structure in the elevation. The arrangement of outriggers between the core tube and flange frame can reduce the shear lag effect in order to improve structural efficiency. The essence of improving structural efficiency of super-tall buildings is to maximize the plane bending stiffness and to make its deformation approach to plane section assumption.

  • Full Dimension multiple input multiple output (FD-MIMO) architecture employs a planar array design at the Base Station (BS) to provide high order multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) via simultaneous data transmission to large number of users. With FD-MIMO, the BS can also adjust the beam direction in both elevation and azimuth direction to concentrate the energy on the user of interests while minimizing the interference leakage to co-scheduled users in the same cell or users in the neighboring cells. In a typical highly populated macrocell environment, modelling the elevation angular characteristics of three-dimensional (3D) channel is critical to understanding the performance limits of the FD-MIMO system. In this paper, we study the throughput performance of FD-MIMO system with varying elevation angular spread and inter-element spacing using a 3D spatial channel model. Our results show that for a typical urban scenario, horizontal beamforming with correlated antenna spacing achieves optimal performance but by restricting the spread of elevation angles of departure, elevation beamforming achieves high array gain with wide inter-element spacing. We also realize significant gains due to spatial array processing via modelling the elevation domain and varying the inter-element spacing for both the transmitter and receiver.

  • This Study is concerned with the Design Characteristics of Korean, Chinese and Japanese brick church architecture. The main subject of the study is to investigate the commonness and difference between Korean, Chinese and Japanese brick church architecture in the early stage(1880-1920). In carrying this study into execution, I examined the architectural and historical backgrounds based on the preceding research works, and analysed the plan, the spacial composition, design elements, techniques and materials, etc. The result of this study is as follows ; The basic concept of composition of space is same in order to embody the Basilican space, but the inner elevation and detail of brick structure is different. Chinese churches are more close to Western basilican style church in the point of shape and plan, but in the point of inner elevation and decoration of church, Japanese churches are more close to Western style church. Korean churches are in the middle of its. There are different attitudes of naturalization of western church architecture in Korea, China and Japan.

A Scenario for the Standard Basis of Crest Elevation Estimation along Korean Coast based on Expected Overtopping Probability (마루높이 설정(設定) 기준(基準)을 위한 기대월파확률 추정 Scenario)

  • The importance of resonable treatment of tide characteristics has been shown by Kweon, et al. (2005, 2006) for the crest elevation estimation because of a big difference of tidal elevation along Korean coast. For the procedure of crest elevation design, the expected overtopping probability (EOP) was estimated by Kweon, et al. (2006). The comparisons on each sea showed that EOP was lower east, south and west sea in order. The results involved the assumption that the tide and design level wave height meet any time in a year. However, big waves mainly occur in summer or winter in Korean coast, the study focuses on the encounter probability of big waves and seasonal tide level. A theory of the encounter probability is not derived by the present study but it shows reasonable acceptability of the proposed scenario in which the expected overtopping probability could be an index for the crest elevation estimation in Korean coast. The calculation based on the scenario gives the possibility range for the crest elevation estimation which has no tendency of each sea along Korean peninsular. The range is within the expected overtopping probability of 1% in the whole coast of Korea.
