This study was aimed at developing eco-STEAM educational programs based on smart learning, implementing the programs to verify their educational effectiveness, and exploring the possibilities for eco-education. The subjects of Science, Mathematics, Practical Arts, Arts, and Physical Education were analyzed to extract STEAM elements for the 5th and 6th grades at elementary school, and then 16 lessen plans were developed under 8 thematic strands. The programs were applied to classes of 5th and 6th graders, and then tested to see the effectiveness in terms of emotional experience, convergence, creative design and satisfaction. The average scores for post-test were statistically higher than those of pre-test(p<.001), showing positive effectiveness of the eco-STEAM programs developed. This study put out the following conclusions. First, the students got emotional experiences through inquiry and observation. Second, the programs helped students to learn about the environment in their contexts and provided a base for interdisciplinary approach. Third, the students in this study could have opportunities for improving their problem-solving abilities by using the creative design. Forth, the students' interests in the ecological topics were increased throughout regular curricula.

This study was to analyze the related contents by securing 32 volumes of 8 types of physical education textbooks for grades 3, 4, 5, 6 that are being used in the school field for the revitalization of dance education. As a result, the 3rd grade expression area organized textbooks focusing on movement language and expression elements. For the 4th grade, most textbooks suggested gymnastics using balls, hoops, and ribbons. In the 5th grade, Ganggangsullae and Mask dance were suggested in relation to Korean folk dances, and Tinikling and Gustaf's skoal suggested in relation to foreign folk dances. had been In the case of 6th graders, the exploration of expression elements and the expression process were presented in relation to thematic expression, and the subject expression was made possible with a focus on creative gymnastics. Also, line dance among practical dances was presented in most textbooks. Despite the importance of the expression domain, field teachers at school are complaining of difficulties in teaching and learning due to various internal and external problems. The need for activation is raised in that the expression domain can exert effects in all cognitive, mental, and affective domains.

Background & Objectives: This study was designed to examine relationships between smoking behavior and smoking attitudes among 6th-grade students in Korea in order to provide knowledge on school-based programs for preventing adolescent smoking behaviors. Methods: Questionnaires were administered to 464 students attending three public elementary schools in O city from June 13 to June 16, 2006. The total sample size is 458 (response rate = 98.7%). Data were statistically analyzed by frequency analysis, cross tabulation, and multiple regression. Results: First, smoking behavior was significantly influenced by the factors of gender, self-concept, family structure, sibling smoking, school achievement, relationship with teachers, satisfaction with school life, and smoking friends. Theprevalence of ever-smoking was 12.7% among 6th grade students in this study. Students were most likely to initiate smoking in the 5thgrade with curiosity and smoke at their own home. Second, students showed negative attitude toward smoking overall. From the detailed section, students respondednegatively about smoking in public places while they thought that adult smoking with moderate level was okay. Student who showed positive attitudes toward smoking in the present study were significantly related to the factors of self-concept, family environment, parental and sibling smoking status, school achievement, satisfaction with school life, and smoking friends. Third, Students who had tried cigarette smoking were likely to report less negative attitudes toward tobacco than non-smoking students. Fourth, this study found that smoking friends were the most significant predictor of positives smoking attitudes. Other factors significantlyassociated with smoking attitudes were gender, relationship with friends, self-concept, relationship with teachers, paternal smoking status. Conclusions: The study results suggest that smoking prevention programs focus on resisting peer influence and need to be community-incorporated and/or comprehensive from elementary to high school.

The microbial contamination levels of school classrooms were assessed as foodservice environments for elementary students. Two elementary schools located in Kyunggi-do were selected, and the total plate counts (TPC) and coliforms were measured from the classroom facilities, including the tables, chairs, floors, shelves, doors, as well as the hands of students, and the air of classrooms. The TPC of the classroom facilities were relatively low ranging from 2.30 to 3.79 log CFU/100 cm$^2$. The TPC counts from the hands of serving students and served students, were 6.39 and 5.33 log CFU, respectively, and the TPC counts of the foodservice utensils were <3.00 log CFU/ea before use and 4.77 CFU/ea after use. The air samples of 'empty classrooms during physical education', 'after physical education class', and 'during lunch' showed the contamination levels of 26 CFU/m$^3$,392 CFU/m$^3$, 364 CFU/m$^3$, respectively, suggesting that the microbial levels in the air varies greatly depending on the class activity before foodservice. When the TPCs of the air during lunch were measured from 18 classrooms, the levels ranged from 76 to >2228 CFU/m$^3$. Coliforms were not detected in the classroom facilities; however, air samples of the classrooms showed 1${\sim}$2 CFU/m$^3$. The above results show that classroom air and the hands of students, can have high levels of microbial contamination, which must to be controlled for safer school foodservice.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the needs of health education in students, their parents and teachers in the elementary, middle and high schools and the current situation of health education class. Method: The subjects of this study were a total of 9450 persons including students, their parents and teachers from 279 schools throughout the country. They were selected through convenient sampling. Data were analyzed through $\chi^2$-test and ANOVA. Result: Students, their parents and teachers replied that 18 dimensions of health education class (DHEC) are necessary. The four DHEC - healthier life style, sex education, mental health and safety education - showed high educational needs in students, their parents, and teachers. High school students had higher educational need of 'symptom management for daily living' than elementary and middle school students. Students, their parents and teachers in elementary school had higher educational needs of 17 DHEC than those in middle and high school. The percentages of schools with health education class taught by health teachers were 99.2%, 75.5% and 66.0% respectively in elementary, middle and high schools. Health education was given mainly using physical education classes at elementary schools, and creative class hours at middle and high schools. In general, health education took 1-3 hours per week at elementary schools, and less than an hour at middle and high schools. Conclusion: Therefore, based on the results, systematic health education class should begin from elementary school to meet the need of health education in students, their parents and teachers, and further study should be made on the number of hours required and the amount of contents of 18 DHEC.

Along with a variety of coding education, physical computing education for controlling various sensors is being actively conducted for elementary, middle, and high school students in line with the era of the fourth industrial revolution. A problem with physical computing education using Arduino is pin connection errors between Arduino and various sensors. Most of the students who come into contact with the Arduino for the first time often do not know the purpose of the Arduino pin and the connection position of the pin. Also, hardware built with incorrect pin connections to the Arduino board often does not work properly. If this case continues, students will lose interest in coding education. Therefore, in this paper, we implemented an augmented reality application that informs the connection process of the Arduino board and the sensor during physical computing coding education using Arduino, and designed and implemented educational content for the Arduino pin position and connection process. First, we explain the role of the Arduino board and the sensor and the location of the pins. After that, the students run the educational augmented reality educational content using their smartphones and check the correct pin connection process between the Arduino and the sensor. In the physical computing education, augmented reality content is used to increase the understanding and immersion of the class. It is expected that the educational effect will also increase by inducing fun and interest in physical computing coding education.
The purpose of this study was to find out the differences in the teaching methods of elementary, middle and high school physical education teachers for online physical education classes and the improvement of online education. To this end, an online questionnaire was conducted for 166 physical education teachers belonging to the Busan Metropolitan Physical Education Research Association community, and cross-analysis were conducted. There search results are as follows. First, there was no difference in gender, starting with online school. Second, there were differences in the method sand motivation so online physical education classes according to the type of employment, and there was no difference in improvement. Third, there was significant difference in the motivation for online physical education classes according to the teaching career. Based on these research results, it is expected that various efforts will be needed to promote the adaptation and improvement of education and teachers for online physical education classes.
Purpose: This descriptive study was conducted to compare the teaching status, utilization of the teaching materials, and the need to solve matters of sex education between the school health educators and teachers working in an elementary school in Busan. Method: 182 school health educators and 125 teachers participated in the research. Data was collected using a self-administered questionnaire, and analyzed by frequency and x2 -test using the SPSS WIN 10.0 Program. Results: While school health educators carried out most of the sex education in the extra curriculum and physical education class, teachers did in the regular curriculum and physical education class. Regarding the utilization of the teaching materials on sex education, although the majority of school health educators used the teacher's manual, only a few teachers used it. Most of the school health educators used the ICT teaching materials while only half of the teachers did. Regarding the methods to solve matters on sex education, school health educators responded that a sex-related subject should be combined with a health subject, and an independent sex-related subject was necessary. The teachers, however, responded that it was necessary to secure enough time for sex education, the sex-related subject combined with a health subject was necessary, and there is a need to designate a sex educator. Conclusion: School health educators utilized more teaching materials for sex education and suggested more active methods to solve matters related to sex education. Therefore, school health educators should be more active as sex educators, and the subject of sex education should be adopted as a regular course.

The aim of this current study is to survey and analyze the degree of concern and difficult of elementary school teachers in elementary school science classes, and providing the results to teachers as a basic reference to improve their scientific specialties. As a result, firstly, the degree of concern of elementary school teacher in science class is more than normal level. Secondly, the degree of concern in science class differs dependent on environmental factors. Next, the degree of difficulty about science class was under normal level. Among area surveyed, physical and psychological environment were lower compared with other areas, and the difficulty in evaluation of class result was comparably higher than others. At fourth, teacher's degree of difficulty in science class was dependent on environment factors, but not on gender. Finally, there was reverse correlation between degree of concern and the degree of difficulty of elementary school teachers in science class. Further, the degree of concern in student knowledge showed more significant reverse correlation with all of area tested.

This study analyzed the differences in aerobic and anaerobic exercise ability and growth-related indicators, depending on the polymorphism of the ACE and the ACTN3 genes, to understand the genetic influence of exercise ability in the growth process of children. The subjects of the study consisted of elementary school students (n=856, age $10.32{\pm}0.07yr$). The anthropometric parameters, physical fitness and growth factors were compared among groups of the ACE I/D or the ACTN3 R577X polymorphisms. There were no significant differences between the anthropometric parameters, physical fitness and growth factors for the ACE gene ID or the ACTN3 gene R577X polymorphism. However, the DD type of ACE gene was highest in the side step test (p<0.05), and the DD type was significantly higher than the II+ID type (p<0.05) in the early bone age. The combined group of the ACE gene II+ID and the ACTN3 gene XX type significantly showed lower early bone age (p< 0.05). This study did not find any individual or compounding effects of the polymorphism in the ACE I/D or the ACTN3 R577X polymorphisms on the anthropometric parameters, physical fitness and growth factors of Korean children. However, the exercise experience and the DD type of the ACE gene may affect the early maturity of the bones.
