2007과 2009 개정 과학교과서에 제시된 달의 위상 변화 삽화에 대한 초등학교 5학년 학생들의 이해 (Elementary School 5th Students' Understanding of the Illustrations on the Phase change of the Moon in Science Textbook of 2007 and 2009 Revised National Curriculum)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how elementary school student understands or students understand the illustrations on the phase change of the Moon in science textbook and to find out how textbook illustration helps students form the conception of the phase change of the Moon. To identify this purpose, we selected illustrations on the phase change of the Moon in the science textbook revised in 2007 and 2009 revised science textbook. For this study we selected and interviewed 20 students in the fifth grade. We integrated all data collected through interviews and created a transcription and a protocol and then, confirmed scientific conceptions related to the phase change of the Moon in students' illustration reading. The result are as followings: First, students read more scientific conceptions related to the phase change of the Moon in illustration of the 2009 revised science textbook which is presented with the universal observer's view point and the earth observer's view point. Second, students who find meaning in the various elements of the illustration and interpret with the integration of the various elements, get a lot of relevant information from illustration. All students have no differences recognizing the elements presented in illustration. But there are differences of contents of illustration reading depending on how students interpret the illustrations with integration of the various elements and if students cannot figure out the four scientific concepts needed to understand the phase change of the Moon, they ignore the information provided by illustration or analysis in their own way according to information provided by illustration. So misconception appears in this process.

초등학교에서 황사에 관한 환경교육 교재의 개발과 적용 (A Development and Application of the Environmental Education Text Book about the Asian Dust in the Elementary School)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and applicate the elementary environmental textbook in order to solve its problem and to improve attitude related to the Asian dust. The results in this research are as follows. First, it was showed that three groups who composed of teachers, parents and students in the elementary school had recognized the serosities and problems caused by the Asian dust form TV, and that such problems was associated with increase of the desertification and the global warming. Especially the student group insist that the cause in Asian dust is due to the natural phenomena or industrialization. Second, as a result in analysis on the Asian dust through both textbooks on the 7th elementary curriculum and subsidiary textbooks, contents concerning Asian dusts was little or noting. In addition, in the subjects of Science, Society and Health for the 5th and 6th grade students in the elementary school, they were explained partially as one of the air pollutants. Third, the elementary environmental textbook on the Asian dust was developed for the 5th and 6th grade students. The textbook is composed of four contents on the material which is harmful of the human health and life in Asian dust, the special news of Asian dust, and the best answer to solve Asian dust as well as the cause and the source of Asian dust. Forth, as a result in classes using the environmental textbook developed by four themes about the Asian dust, its application is meaningful in the level of p value in the view of knowledge, awareness and attitude of the experiment group. They was more improved in 37%, 14%, and 15%, respectively, than the comparative group. In conclusion, the environmental textbook related to Asian dust will play an important role in useful tool to understand the right knowledge, awareness, and attitude which makes an effort on its effective management in the elementary school.

과학수업에서 실험관찰 교과서에 대한 교사들의 인식과 활용 방안 (Teachers' Cognitions about the Primary Science Textbooks(Experiment and Observation) and It's Improvement in Science Classes)

  • This study aimed to analyze the teachers' cognitions about the primary science textbooks(experiment and observation) used in elementary schools. This study surveyed 211 teachers in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. The data were statistically analyzed by SPSS WIN 10.0. The results of this study are as follows : Most of the teachers showed positive opinions on the directions of the compilation of experiment and observation textbook. Teachers used experiment and observation textbook as summary notes, experiment reports and evaluating methods. The experiment and observation textbooks should be compiled and reorganized in order as follows : Lesson introduction, inquiry activities, and intensive and supplementary activities which are followed by space of description in experiment and observation textbook.

2007개정 교육과정 초등 과학 교과서의 시각 이미지에 대한 언어학적 분석: 날씨의 변화 단원을 중심으로 (The Linguistic Analysis of Visual Images in Elementary Science Textbooks by 2007 Curriculum Revision: Focused on the Changes of the Weather)

  • This study analyzed the visual images covering 'the changes of weather' in elementary science textbooks by 2007 curriculum revision from a perspective of linguistics. The findings showed that there were inclined to increasing in terms of ideational and textual metafunctions. It meant that the informative images were increased and the form of images became more abstractive. It also showed an increase in terms of interpersonal metafunctions. It was interpreted as decreasing the ratios of images inducing epistemological detachments and increasing images help familiarity and involvement between images and readers. These results showed that the visual images of 'the changes of weather' in 2007 revised elementary science textbook were professionally, technical, and abstractive in terms of the contents and formality. And these trends of images were complemented by the involvement and familiarity of images in the aspect of interpersonal metafunctions.

2015 개정 교육과정에 따른 초등 과학 검정 교과서 내용 다양성 분석 - '물체의 무게' 단원을 중심으로 - (Content Diversity Analysis of Elementary Science Authorized Textbooks according to the 2015 Revised Curriculum: Focusing on the "Weight of an Object" Unit)

  • 이 연구에서는 2015 개정 교육과정에 따른 초등 과학 국정 교과서와 동 교육과정에 따라 2022년에 출판된 초등 과학과 검정 교과서 7종의 '물체의 무게' 단원에 진술된 과학 개념의 서술과 탐구활동 내용의 특징을 비교하여 초등 과학 검정 교과서의 내용 다양성을 분석해 보았다. 이를 위해 각 교과서의 설명텍스트에서 개념 서술 내용의 흐름, 개념 서술 과정에서의 특이점을 분석하였고, 언어네트워크 분석 방법으로 노드와 링크 수, 연결중심성이 높은 중심 단어를 분석 하였다. 또한 교과서에 제시된 탐구활동에서 탐구활동 유형, 탐구과정기능 및 탐구 활동 내용을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 검정 교과서에서는 과학 개념의 서술이나 탐구활동 내용 구성에서 다양성이 잘 드러나지 않았다. 하위 개념의 포함 여부, 중심 단어 등이 교과서별로 유사하였다. 탐구활동을 비교하였을 때에도 탐구활동 내용과 탐구 유형, 탐구과정기능이 유사하였다. 특히 이전 교과서에서 제시되지 않았던 새로운 탐구활동 주제나 실험 방법을 도입한 경우는 없었다. 하지만 동일한 교육과정을 바탕으로 개발되었음에도 불구하고 검정 교과서 체제의 장점을 살릴 수 있는 노력들이 일부 시도되고 있었다. 핵심 내용을 설명하기 위한 하위 개념의 배치 순서가 교과서마다 달라 개념을 설명하는 과정이 몇 가지 유형으로 구분되었고, 탐구활동의 내용은 동일하였지만 기존 실험에서의 어려움을 개선하고 보완하기 위해 탐구 활동 준비물이 교과서별로 서로 다르게 나타나기도 하였다. 이를 바탕으로 검정 교과서의 장점을 살릴 수 있는 시도가 계속되어야 할 것이다.

국민학교 저학년 아동을 위한 과학놀이 활동자료 개발연구 (The Materials of the play Activities for the Lowor Grades in the Elementary School)

  • It is the purpose of this study that is to develop the materials of the Scientific activities by the medium of "play" having influence on the growth of the lower grades in elementary school. For the sake of this object, this study develops and presents the materials of tile basic logical thinking play and sense-thinking play activities. And it analyzes the degree that they can be applied to the elementary science textbook of nature current now. As a result this provides 39 of materials of the sense-play and 23 of materials of the logical thinking play activities. And then, if the materials presented here are changed adequatly and have the same main subject as contents of the present textbook, we shall be able to utilize them for the textbook of nature.

2009 개정 교육과정에 따른 초등학교 3~4학년 과학 교과용 도서 실험본의 '기초탐구' 단원의 효과에 대한 초등학교 교사의 인식 (Elementary School Teachers' Perceptions on Effects of 'Basic Inquiry' Units in Experimental Grade 3~4 Science Textbooks developed for 2009 Revised National Curriculum)

  • 'Basic Inquiry' unit was newly included in the grade 3~4 science textbook developed for 2009 revised national curriculum. The unit deals with six basic inquiry skills such as 'observation', 'measurement', 'classification', 'prediction', 'inference', and 'communication'. This study investigated elementary school teachers' perceptions on the effects of 'Basic Inquiry' unit by questionnaires (N=104 for pre-survey, N=90 for post-survey). The results showed that how the teachers have taught basic inquiry skills before this new textbook and how they perceived the educational effects of the unit after experimental teaching period in three aspects; development of basic inquiry skills, facilitating science learning in other units, and implementation of open inquiry. The reasons of positive perceptions as well as negative perceptions were analyzed and discussed with the suggestions for further study.

5E 과학학습과정 상의 기능을 중심으로 한 2009 개정 초등과학교과서 삽화 분석: 3~4학년 지구과학 단원을 대상으로 (An Analysis of Illustrations in the 2009 Revised Elementary School Science Textbooks: Focus on Functions of Illustrations and Roles on 5E Inquiry Learning Process)

  • The purpose of this paper was to analyze the role of illustrations in elementary textbooks (3~4 grade) of the 2009 revised curriculum of science education in Korea from point of view of aim of science by applying the criteria of 5E inquiry process model for reflecting core aim of the science education. The subjects of the paper was the 105 illustrations in the earth-science domain of elementary science textbooks (3~4 grade) of the 2009 revised curriculum of science education in Korea. The analysis criterion was of two categories, the function of illustration and the role of illustration. the function of illustration was divided into three subcategories such as Exclusiveness type, correspondence type and supplementary type. The role of illustration was divide into five subcategories such as Engagement, Exploration, Explanation, Elaboration and Evaluation. According to results of the illustration analysis are as follows: the result of the function of illustration are exclusiveness type 39, correspondence type 36 and supplementary type 30, the important of point to note is that there are a lot of exclusiveness type considerably. compared with other subjects, this fact indicate character of illustration of the only science textbook. The result of the role of illustration are Engagement 14, exploration 64, explanation 25, elaboration 2 and evaluation 0. This data indicate main role of illustrations in earth-science domain is to help the students to be able to observe and explore. Cross-analysis of the function and role was a significant difference. Role of illustration was evenly distributed within Exclusiveness type on the other hand, the role of illustrations was mainly exploration and explanation in correspondence and supplementary type. Especially, illustration of exploration was mainly correspondence type.

초등 과학 교과서에 나타난 과학의 본성에 대한 분석 - 4가지 영역의 과학적 소양을 기준으로 - (Analysis of the Presentation for the Nature of Science in Elementary Science Textbooks using the Four Themes of Scientific Literacy)

  • Understanding the nature of science (NOS) has been a major component of scientific literacy and an important learning goal in science education (American Association for the Advancement of Science, 1990, 1993; Millar & Osborne, 1998; National Research Council, 1996, 2013). To achieve this goal, it is necessary to include appropriate views of the nature of science in science curriculum such as a textbook. The aim of this study was to conduct a content analysis of the elementary science textbooks to examine the presentation of the nature of science (NOS) using the four themes of scientific literacy, which are (1) nature of scientific knowledge, (2) nature of scientific inquiry, (3) nature of scientific thinking, and (4) nature of interactions among science, technology, and society (STS). Findings show while $3^{rd}$ and $4^{th}$ grade levels of science textbooks heavily emphasize on the Theme I, nature of scientific knowledge and the Theme II, the nature of scientific inquiry, the upper grade levels such as $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ grades of science textbooks are well balanced with the four themes of the nature of science. In addition, most of elementary science textbooks little focus on the Theme IV, nature of interactions among science, technology, and society (STS) among the four themes of the nature of science. It might be a shortcoming because the understanding the nature of interacions among science, technology and society (STS) is one of the key components in order for students to be a scientific literate person.

초등학교 교사의 2015 개정 과학과 검정 교과서 선정 경험 분석 (Experience Analysis on the Selection of the 2015 Revised Science Authorized Textbook by Elementary School Teachers)

  • 본 연구는 과학과 검정 교과서를 선정하는 과정을 심층적으로 이해하고, 선정 주체인 교사의 인식 분석을 통해 과학과 검정 교과서 체제가 바르게 정착되고 발전될 수 있도록 시사점을 주고자 하였다. 이를 위해 과학과 검정 교과서 선정 과정에 참여한 초등학교 교사 5명과 내러티브 면담을 진행하고, 32명의 교사를 대상으로 설문을 진행하였으며, 이 과정에서 제기된 교과서의 저자에 관한 분석을 하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 교사들은 '의견수렴' 단계가 가장 중요하다고 이야기하였으며, 경력과 전공을 고려하여 과학 교과서 선정협의회를 구성하였고, 학교의 상황에 맞게 평가기준표를 재구성하여 활용하고 있었다. 둘째, 의견수렴 과정에서 교사별로 과학 교과서 전체를 검토하는 방법을 활용하였으며, 내적 요소로 탐구 활동과 교과서 구성을 중요하게 고려하였다. 외적 요소로는 동영상과 같은 교수·학습자료가 매우 중요하게 고려되었다고 이야기하였으며, 교과서의 신뢰성과 전문성의 지표인 저자와 관련된 부분도 중요하게 인식하였다. 셋째, 학교운영위원회 심의 및 학교장 보고의 경우 선정 이후 진행하는 행정적인 마무리 단계로 인식하고 있었다. 마지막으로 3~4학년군 교과서와 5~6학년군 교과서를 임의로 통일하는 것 보다 학년군별로 가장 적합한 교과서를 선정하는 것이 중요하다고 인식하고 있었다.
