  • Let M be a module over a commutative ring R, and let T(M) be its set of torsion elements. The total torsion element graph of M over R is the graph $T({\Gamma}(M))$ with vertices all elements of M, and two distinct vertices m and n are adjacent if and only if $m+n{\in}T(M)$. In this paper, we study the basic properties and possible structures of two (induced) subgraphs $Tor_0({\Gamma}(M))$ and $T_0({\Gamma}(M))$ of $T({\Gamma}(M))$, with vertices $T(M){\backslash}\{0\}$ and $M{\backslash}\{0\}$, respectively. The main purpose of this paper is to extend the definitions and some results given in [6] to a more general total torsion element graph case.

  • This study is aimed at the development of a comprehensive web-based partial differential equation solver (WPDES) using multidimensional finite element method, which can be operated on the basis of world wide web. Overall issues of engineering and environmental information management and facility control could be implemented using this solver. This paper describes the development technique of the model, which is first part on development of partial differential equation solver. Conventional commercial general solver of computational fluid dynamics problems were investigated. All the relevant environmental models were analyzed to develop integrated environmental management system using WPDES. The governing equations and the parameters of investigated models were analyzed and integrated. Several numerical modules were invented for each partial differential term in partial differential equation of many related modeling problems. Each module was coded in the fashion of object oriented method, and was combined independently for the overall governing equation. WPDES has unique characteristic, which can analyze the problem through the suitable combination of modules without development of additional models for each environment problem with different governing equation, main variables, and parameters.

  • Recently, the cases of BIPV(Building-integrated Photovoltaic) have been increased with interest in renewable energy application for buildings. PV System in building can perform a variety of roles as an energy supplier, exterior materials, aesthetic element and etc. To apply PV modules in buildings, various factors should be considered, such as the installation angle and orientation of PV module, shading, and temperature. The temperature of PV modules that are attached to building surfaces especially is one of the most important factors, as it affects both the electrical efficiency of a PV module and the energy load in a building. BIPV modules designed as finished material for spandrels are presented in this paper. The purpose of this study is to analysis on the thermal performance characteristics of BIPV modules. This study dealt with different types of BIPV modules depending on the backside material, such as clear glass and backsheet. The analysis of monitoring data shows that the PV module temperature was closely related to the solar radiation on the BIPV module surface, and the BIPV used at the backside also had an effect on the PV module temperature that in turn determines its thermal performance.

A Study on the Establishment of Rule-Based Modules for Automating the Design of Interior Finishes in Architectural Buildings (건축 내부 마감 자동 상세화를 위한 규칙 기반 모듈 구축 방안에 관한 연구 - 바닥, 벽 및 천장을 중심으로 -)

  • BIM facilitates data transparency and consistency through three-dimensional parametric modeling and promotes the accurate managing and sharing of project information. In Korea, however, BIM-based detailed design of architectural interior finishes required during the Construction Documents phase increases the burden on architectural firms due to frequent design changes and manual workload. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to establish rule-based modules using parametric modeling that automates repetitive tasks that occur during the detailed design of interior finishing. Interviews with practitioners were conducted to analyze the major finishing elements. Of these floors, walls, and ceilings, which were the most rudimentary and common items, were selected as the subjects of the study. The modules developed in this study have two functions. One is to create new finish types, and the other is the automatic modeling of new types into rooms. For these functions, parameters that belonged to each finish and room element in a BIM model were analyzed and valid parameters directly used for parametric modeling were derived. Then, based on these parameters, rule-based modules for three elements, I.e., floors, walls, and ceilings were constructed with Revit Dynamo, and the effectiveness of the modules was verified with a pilot test. In conclusion, this study suggested a series of processes for automatic finishing to improve the efficiency of BIM-based architectural detailed design of finishes and to contribute in solving the chronic problems occuring during current design processes.

A Study on Progressive Die Design by the using of Finite Element Method (유한요소법을 이용한 프로그레시브 금형 설계에 관한 연구)

  • This paper describes a research work of developing computer-aided design of a product with bending and piercing for progressive working. An approach to the system for progressive working is based on the knowledge-based rules. Knowledge for the system is formulated from plasticity theories, experimental results and the empirical knowledge of field experts. The system has been written in Auto-LISP on the Auto-CAD with a personal computer and is composed of four main modules, which are input and shape treatment, flat pattern layout, strip layout, and die layout modules. The system is designed by considering several factors, such as bending sequences by fuzzy set theory, complexities of blank geometry, punch profiles, and the availability of a press equipment. Strip layout drawing generated in the strip layout module is presented in 3-D graphic forms, including bending sequences and piercing processes with punch profiles divided into for external area. The die layout module carries out die design for each process obtained from the results of the strip layout. Results obtained using the modules enable the manufacturer for progressive working of electric products to be more efficient in this field.

  • Propulsion system of the current developing satellite is roughly composed of propellant tank and four major modules. Each module prevides the pulse momentum for spacecraft attitude control, filling/draining of propellant and pressurant, propellant filtering, and the change of flow passage in the spacecraft emergency situation, respectively. These modules will be fixed on the propulsion platform with their suitable mounting brackers, so the brackets shall be designed sufficiently to support a function of the modules under launch environment and on-orbit condition. The purpose of this article is to check if all the bracket designs satisfy the defined structural requirements through finite element analysis, and then to verify structural safety.

  • In this study, the wave-induced motion responses of modular floating structures (MFS) was investigated through a series of experiments in a two-dimensional wave tank. A 1:63 scale model test was conducted using a 1-by-2 modular floating structure consisting of two modules and connectors. Two different types of connectors were considered: a pitch-free hinge and rigid connector. The numerical analysis was performed based on the higher-order boundary element method (HOBEM) and wave Green function with potential flow theory. First, the heave and pitch RAOs of the modules from the regular wave tests were directly compared with numerical analysis results. Next, the motion spectra and their statistical values from the irregular wave tests were compared with the numerical analysis results. The study revealed that the sheltering effect of the weather side module led to a reduction in motion of the lee side module. The numerical analysis showed good agreement with the experimental data, demonstrating the validity of the numerical method. Additionally, the rigid connector, which strongly constrain all six degrees of freedom, significantly reduce pitch motion, making the modules behave as a single rigid body.

Development of an Automation Tool for the Three-Dimensional Finite Element Analysis of Machine Tool Spindles

  • In this study, an automation tool was developed for rapid evaluation of machine tool spindle designs with automated three-dimensional finite element analysis (3D FEA) using solid elements. The tool performs FEA with the minimum data of point coordinates to define the section of the spindle shaft and bearing positions. Using object-oriented programming techniques, the tool was implemented in the programming environment of a CAD system to make use of its objects. Its modules were constructed with the objects to generate the geometric model and then to convert it into the FE model of 3D solid elements at the workbenches of the CAD system using the point data. Graphic user interfaces were developed to allow users to interact with the tool. This tool is helpful for identification of a near optimal design of the spindle based on, for example, stiffness with multiple design changes and then FEAs.
