  • Electrowetting phenomenon is applied in the various field of technology. One of that is electrowetting display as a paper like electronic paper. Fast response and easy to express a color is goodness. In spite of that, the oil movement of the electrowetting display is irregular. So it doesn't look like uniform. Because of the above reason, electrowetting display using patterned electrode is made and the characteristic of oil movement is observed. Electrode and polymer wall is patterned by photo-lithography. We analyze the oil movement according to the variation of size and the position of etched electrode area.

  • Moving a droplet by electrowetting is the basis of our novel displays. This enables mechanical bistable and high reflective monochrome as well as color systems. Since no high temperature process is required, plastic substrates can be used. Our prototypes show promising performance in terms of a wide temperature range, contrast ratio and color.

  • The Fabric Electrode was proposed for the effective production of the display based on electrowetting in this paper and designed the source driver of flexible display which could be driven by the electrowetting cell. The electrowetting cell matrix was implemented on the substrate(PET) by imprinting. The driver fabric, wetting electrode fabric and conductive fabric was placed horizontally and vertically in the groove between cell matrix and the electrowetting cell matrix can be driven by the cross-point as electric connection. The integration density of driver module is decreased because using the R/2R DAC module per channel in the conventional method. The proposed method could utilize the effective production process and reduce the production price of a display panel. The source driver which consume lower power and can increase the integration density because of reducing the number of driver device per channel was designed and evaluate the driver operation by the simulation using the VHDL programming in this paper.

  • The 6- inch electrowetting display (EWD) can be successfully developed by ink jet printing (IJP) technique. Due to the drop-on-demand characteristic of IJP technology, colored oil can be precisely dosed into the unit pixel. Here, we present the active matrix EWD in this article. By adopting this technique to dose different colored oils, single layer Multi-color EWD without adopting color filter can be achieved in the future.

  • Since 2006, the Industrial Technology Research Institute and the University of Cincinnati have been jointly exploring approaches for high brightness flexible electrowetting displays (EWDs). Recently, ITRI demonstrated for the $1^{st}$ time a 6" AM-EWD reflective display panel. To create flexible AM-EWDs, Cincinnati has developed low-temperature processing and improved pixel structures.

  • Electrowetting display (EWD) is one of the strong candidates for electronic paper like display (EPD). However, in the conventional EWD, the oil movement occurs in random direction so that we can observe irregular distribution of contracted oil in the operation. To realize colorful display and achieve a fast response time, oil movement in the pixel should be directed in a specific direction. In this paper, we report the result of oil contraction with specified direction which is achieved by patterned electrode. From the experiments, we find that the oil movement depends on the portion of etched electrode area and study other influencing factors of patterned electrode on the oil movement.

  • This paper presents the effects of a dielectric layer and an electrolyte on the driving performance of an electrowetting on dielectric (EWOD)-based liquid lens. The range of tunable focal length of the EWOD-based liquid lens was highly dependent on the conditions of the dielectric layer, which included an inorganic oxide layer and an organic hydrophobic layer. Moreover, experiments on the physical and optical durability of electrolyte by varying temperature conditions, were conducted and their results were discussed. Finally, the lens with a truncated-pyramid silicon cavity having a sidewall dielectrics and electrode was fabricated by anisotropic etching and other micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) technologies in order to demonstrate its performance. The lens with $0.6-{\mu}m$-thick $SiO_2$ layer and 10 wt% LiCl-electrolyte exhibited brilliant focal-length tunability from infinity to 3.19 mm.

  • In this study, we attempted to harvest energy using water droplet based on Reverse Electro Wetting On Dielectric (REWOD) phenomenon between water droplet and dielectric surface without external bias. REWOD device can be fabricated via simple coating process, which is highly economic and easy. We believe that our system is well-suited for IoT(Internet of Things) embedded electronics that require low but consistent electricity. Moreover, our device can be integrated with window to generate electricity upon raindrops.
