What drives Indonesians Subscribe and Push the Distribution of Disney+ Hotstar?

  • Purpose: This study aims to test the influence of brand relationship, price, content, brand awareness, and electronic Word-Of-Mouth (eWOM) on willingness to pay for the subscription fee of Disney+ Hotstar. As the latest streaming service provider in Indonesia, Disney + Hotstar under Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution has actively conducted strategies to strengthen the brand and attract consumers. Research design, data and methodology: Structural Equation Modelling with WarpPLS approach was used to assess the proposed model gathering data from 316 people who have ever known about Disney+ Hotstar through an online survey using measurement items from previous literature. Results: Most responses were obtained from millennial generations. Findings demonstrated that brand relationships, price, content, and brand awareness positively influenced willingness to pay for the subscription fee whereas eWOM showed a negative and insignificant influence on the willingness to pay for the subscription fee. Conclusions: The most significant factor towards willingness to pay a for subscription fee is price, followed by brand awareness, brand relationship, and content. The result of this study may be used as a guide for professionals in the streaming service industry to better implement their strategies in influencing people to have the willingness to subscribe.

  • Fashion industry constantly produces and consumes, which leads to huge waste piles of perfectly usable textiles in landfills, as well as other negative effects of an exploitative and excessively rapid fashion process. Pollution created by making and dyeing clothes has pitted fashion industry and environmentalists against each other. In this context, upcycling is seen as an optimal way to solve the growing problem of waste in fashion industry. The first purpose of the study was to analyze the relationships between upcycling fashion products' perceived value, pro-environmental beliefs, attitudes, electronic word of mouth (eWOM) intention, and purchase intention. The second purpose is to verify the difference of perceived consumption value among the consumers' awareness level and purchase experience. A total of 258 valid responses obtained from a group of 20-30-year-old participants were collected through an online survey. SPSS 23.0 and Amos 18.0 programs were used for data analysis. The results of the present study suggest that there are significant effects of upcycling fashion products' perceived value on pro-environmental belief; furthermore, pro-environmental belief was found to positively influence attitude, eWOM intention, and purchase intention. In addition, there are differences of perceived consumption value among the consumers' awareness level and purchase experience. Taken together, the results of this study provide researchers and practitioners with a deeper understanding of consumers' values, beliefs, attitudes, and behavioral intentions towards upcycling fashion products.

  • The increase use of smartphones has paved the way for quick dissemination of online information. This has a huge influence on consumers' purchase decision making and the formation of a company's image. As such, this study focuses on product review from mobile beauty applications(apps); in particular, the perceived information authenticity. The purpose is as follows. First, to examine if there is any difference in perceived information authenticity based on the types of product review. Second, to analyze how perceived information authenticity influences brand attitude, purchase intention, and electronic word of mouth(e-WOM) intention. The study targets consumers in their 20s and 30s who have experience buying a product via a mobile beauty app. Three hundred responses are analyzed using SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 18.0. The results reveal that, first of all, consumers derive higher perceived information authenticity from a multi-facet review rather than a double-facet review. Second, among the traits of perceived information authenticity, only a brand's perceived reliability has a significant influence on brand attitude. Third, this brand attitude has a positive influence on purchase intention and e-WOM intention. In conclusion, these findings can serve as an important discussion point for companies developing a mobile beauty app, drawing attention to perceived information authenticity, based on the types of product review.

온라인 구전과 영화 매출 간 상호영향에 관한 연구: 한국 영화 산업을 중심으로 (Simultaneous Effect between eWOM and Revenues: Korea Movie Industry)

  • 기존 영화 산업에서 구전의 크기는 매출에 영향을 주지만 방향성은 영향을 주지 못하는 것으로 연구되었다(Liu 2006). 하지만, 이러한 분석 방법을 국내 영화 데이터에 동일하게 적용시켜 본 결과, 구전의 방향성도 영화의 매출에 영향을 주는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 이는 아시아 지역의 소비자들에게서 나타나는 독립적 자아관점과 북미 지역의 소비자들에게서 나타나는 상호의존적 자아관점의 차이로 인해 나타난 결과로 보인다. 즉, 국내 소비자의 경우는 영화를 선택/관람함에 있어 타인의 평가가 영향력을 주기 때문에 구전의 방향성도 유의한 양(+)의 값을 가진다. 기존의 연구에서는 구전의 크기가 일방적으로 매출에 영향을 미친다는 가정을 통해 영화 산업의 구전효과를 분석했으나, 이는 발생된 매출이 구전의 크기에 미치는 영향을 간과한 것이다. 따라서 매출이 구전에 미치는 효과까지 고려하여 연립방정식(Simultaneous Equation)을 통해 구전의 크기와 매출 간 상호 관계를 추정한 결과, 구전의 방향성은 위의 분석과 동일하게 영화 개봉 후 지속적으로 매출에 양(+)의 영향력을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 하지만, 구전의 크기는 매출의 원인이 되는 것이 아니라, 오히려 매출이 증가하여 구전의 크기가 증가하는 것이라는 결과를 보여주었다. 즉, 개봉 후 1주차에는 소비자들이 영화를 선택할 때 구전의 크기와 방향성이 동시에 고려되지만, 2주차 이후로는 구전의 크기는 매출에 영향을 미치는 변수가 아니라, 매출의 증가에 따른 결과라는 사실이 밝혀졌다.

항공사 소셜 미디어 이용 강도가 온라인 구전 의존도와 온라인 구전 수용에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Social Media Use Intensity on Reliance of EWOM and Acceptance of EWOM)

  • As many people all over the world increasingly take more time in exchanging with other people or acquiring information on the internet, use of social media becomes a part of their daily lives. A lot of changes of consumer culture, which have been occurring through social media, have significant effects on corporate marketing activities. Since social media's importance to airlines has been continuously increased, this study attempts to examine effects of passengers' uses of social media, who plan to select an airline, on dependence on reliance of electronic word-of mouth(EWOM) and EWOM acceptance. To this end, a questionnaire survey of passengers who use airlines and the airline's social media was conducted, and then effective data of 302 copies were analyzed by using the structural equation modeling. The findings show that social media use intensity has a significant effect on Acceptance of EWOM via reliance of EWOM, while a direct effect of social media use intensity on Acceptance of EWOM is not significant. From this study, it is found that control and management of social media and only EWOM are effective tools for marketing of airline businesses, suggesting that innovative strategies are required to preemptively cope with changes in consumers' behaviors and markets, which continue to evolve.

The Effects of One-Sided vs. Two-Sided Review Valence on Electronic Word of Mouth (e-WOM): The Moderating Role of Sponsorship Presence

  • Prior studies on the effects of online consumer reviews have mainly focused on review valence, but little research has investigated how two-sided (both positive and negative) and one-sided (only positive) reviews influence consumers' response to online review. In addition, little attention has been paid to how sponsorship presence (firm-sponsored reviews vs. consumer-voluntary reviews) influences individuals' attitude toward online review. Unlike consumer-voluntary reviews without any monetary incentive, firm-sponsored reviews include messages about brands providing monetary compensation. This study examines whether review valence (two-sidedness vs. one-sidedness) influences attitude toward online review via its influence on review credibility. Further, this study examines whether sponsorship presence affects when review valence influences attitude toward review. Thus, this research investigates the effect of review valence on attitude toward review and the moderating role of sponsorship presence in the relationship between review valence and attitude toward review. The first experiment reveals that attitude toward review is more favorable when the review is two-sided (vs. one-sided). The second study demonstrates that differences between the two-sided and the one-sided review occur only for firm-sponsored reviews, not for consumer-voluntary reviews. The theoretical and practical implications are also discussed.

B2C허의사구중적전자구비(B2C虚拟社区中的电子口碑): 관우휴정려유망적실증연구(关于携程旅游网的实证研究) (Electronic Word-of-Mouth in B2C Virtual Communities: An Empirical Study from CTrip.com)

  • 虚拟社区(virtual community, VC)今年来发展迅速, 越来越多的人参与到虚拟社区中交换信息和分享观点. 虚拟社区是通过计算机布告板和网络进行非面对面的知识和语言交流的一种大众集合体. B2C电子商务网站虚拟社区则是商业性的虚拟社区, 通过培养信任环境来促进消费者在该网站的购买行为. B2CVC通过信息交流, 如推荐, 评论, 买者与卖者评级等, 来建立社会性的氛围. 目前, 虽然学术界已经认识到B2CVC的重要性, 但是关于社区成员的口碑传播行为的研究还不充分. 本研究提出了一个理论模型, 探讨在B2C网站社区中参与度, 满意度, 信任度, 粘度和口碑传播之间的关系. 本研究的目的有三个: 1, 通过整合信念, 态度和行为的测量来实证检验B2C网站社区模型; 2, 更好地理解各因素对口碑传播的影响关系; 3, 更好地理解B2C网站社区黏度在CRM营销中的作用. 研究模型包含以下要素: 1, 社区成员的信念变量, 通过参与度来测量; 2, 社区成员的态度变量, 通过满意度和信任度来测量; 以及3, 社区成员的行为变量, 通过网站黏度和口播传播意愿来测量. 参与度是消费者在虚拟社区的参与动机. 对于社区成员来说, 信息的查找和发布是他们参与到社区的主要目的. 满意度是成员对社区整体评价的重要指标, 反映了成员与社区的交互程度. 虚拟社区的形成与发展依靠成员分享信息和服务的自愿程度. 研究者已经发现信任是促进匿名交互的关键, 因此构建信任被看作是虚拟社区的重要研究课题. 此外, 虚拟社区的成功依靠成员的粘度来提高购买潜力. 社区成员间的观点交流和信息交换代表一种 "写作式" 的口碑传播. 因此口碑传播是推动B2C虚拟社区在互联网上扩散的主要因素之一. 研究模型及假设如图一所示. 本研究通过实证调查中国携程旅游网虚拟社区成员来验证模型. 数据收集过程中共发放243份问卷, 其中有效问卷204份. 通过实证数据验证了参与度, 满意度和信任度影响粘度和口碑传播之间的假设关系. 结构方程模型(SEM)方法用来进行数据分析. 模型的拟合指数结果为χ2/df 是2.76, NFI是 .904, IFI是 .931, CFI是 .930, 以及RMSEA是 .017. 结果表明, 参与度对满意度具有显著的影响(p<0.001, ${\beta}$=0.809). 参与度可以解释满意度的方差比例超过50%, 调整R2为0.654. 参与度对信任度具有显著影响(p<0.001, ${\beta}$=0.751), 解释率为57%, 调整R2为0.563. 此外, 满意度对黏度的影响显著(${\beta}$=0.514), 但是信任度对黏度的影响并不显著(p=0.231, t=1.197). 黏度对口碑传播的影响显著, 且解释率超过80%, 调整R2为 0.846. 总之, 研究结果支持了大部分的研究假设, 但是信任度显著影响粘度的假设没有得到支持. 本研究丰富了电子商务网站虚拟社区的学术研究成果, 深入探讨了在B2C电子商务环境下的用户信念, 态度和行为等因素. 研究成果有助于实践者进行更有针对性的资源开发和市场开拓. 网络营销人员可以针对B2C网站社区来有针对性地制定营销策略, 如对于国际旅游业务, 营销人员可以针对中国的B2C网站社区用户开展营销活动, 如为活跃的用户提供特殊折扣以及为早期参与者提高社区黏度定制营销计划等. 未来的研究应该拓展社区成员行为的研究, 并在不同的行业, 社区和文化背景下开展研究.

Factors Affecting Online Hotel Selection Behavior of Domestic Tourists: An Empirical Study from Vietnam

  • The purpose of this study was to offer a new conceptual framework based on a combination of the TPB model, the TAM model, and two additional constructs consisting of eWOM and pricing value called the E-P-TAM-TPB model, and to assess the model's implications on hotel selection behavior. This study empirically examines the E-P-TAM-TPB model to evaluate and validate domestic tourists' online hotel booking intentions by using the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approach. The data was collected from 355 domestic tourists who booked the room via the hotel website. The major findings of this study indicated that the E-P-TAM-TPB model has a positive significant influence on online hotel selection behavior. The results revealed that all proposed hypotheses were declared supported. Future studies should build on the framework by incorporating potential moderators to better understand how different groups of customers behave online in different segments of the hospitality industry. Managers must not only develop an easy booking process but also provide price value information to attract or impress clients. Tourists can compare room rates with other hotel websites and OTAs.

제품 가격에 따른 온라인 리뷰 유익성 결정 요인에 관한 연구 (Identifying Factors Affecting Helpfulness of Online Reviews: The Moderating Role of Product Price)

  • 최근 온라인 쇼핑 활동의 증가와 함께 소비자들은 온라인상에서의 제품에 대한 리뷰를 합리적인 구매 결정을 내리기 위한 중요한 정보로 활용하고 있다. 하지만 소비자들은 많은 양의 온라인 리뷰 중 그들의 구매 결정에 유익하게 활용될 리뷰를 선택하기가 쉽지 않다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 정교화 가능성 이론(elaboration likelihood model)을 바탕으로, 유익한 온라인 소비자 리뷰를 결정하는 요인이 무엇인지 알아보고, 구매하고자 하는 제품의 가격에 따라 유익한 리뷰를 결정짓는 요인이 어떻게 변화되는지를 분석하고자 한다. 본 분석을 위해 아마존 닷컴의 75,226개의 온라인 소비자 리뷰 데이터를 수집하고, 리뷰 메시지의 감정어 분석 (sentimental analysis)을 통해 메시지 내용에 대한 정량변수도 확보하였다. 다중회귀분석 결과, 리뷰 점수, 리뷰어에 대한 랭킹 정보를 포함하는 주변적 단서(peripheral cues)와 리뷰 메시지의 단어 수, 부정어 비율의 중심적 단서(central cues) 모두 리뷰의 유익성에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 고가격 제품과 저가격 제품에서 유익한 리뷰를 결정하는 요인이 다르게 나타남을 확인하였다.

온라인 구전의 양과 방향성이 영화 관람의도에 미치는 영향: 리뷰 신뢰성의 매개효과 (The Impacts of Volume and Valence of eWOM on Purchase Intention for Movies: Mediation of Review Credibility)

  • 영화 흥행에 영향을 미치는 온라인 구전의 양과 방향성에 관한 선행연구들의 거의 대부분은 Yahoo Movies, IMDB.com, 네이버 영화 등에서 제공하는 실제 온라인 데이터(2차 데이터)를 사용하였다. 그러나 실제 온라인 데이터는 구전 제공자와 구전 수용자의 심리 변수나 특성 정보를 파악하기가 어렵기 때문에 실제 데이터를 사용한 선행연구들에서는 구전의 양 및 방향성과 소비자의 심리 변수 간의 인과관계를 파악할 수가 없었다. 본 연구에서는 선행연구의 이러한 한계를 보완하여 실제 데이터 대신에 설문조사를 통해 기존에 검증되지 않은 인과관계모형으로서 구전의 양과 방향성이 소비자 심리 변수이며 대표적인 구전 정보 특성인 리뷰 신뢰성을 매개변수로 하여 영화 관람의도에 미치는 직·간접적인 영향력을 검증하였다. 연구결과, 구전의 양과 방향성이 관람의도에 미치는 총효과는 각각 유의하였다. 그러나 구전의 양은 리뷰 신뢰성을 통해 관람의도에 미치는 간접적인 효과만이 유의한 반면에(완전매개효과), 방향성은 직접효과와 간접효과가 모두 유의한(부분매개효과) 차이가 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과에 대한 이론적, 실무적 시사점을 제시하였다.
