  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception of the school dietitian on superior agricultural products (SAP) and the status of using superior agricultural products in school meals. Questionnaires were distributed to 185 school dietitians after face to face interview, and a total of 181 responses were used for analysis. 82.3% of the respondents were using SAPs in school meals and there was a significant difference between elementary school (95.1%), middle school (76.8%) and high school (66.7%) dietitians (p < 0.001). 85.2% of the dietitians, who were using SAP, were purchasing SAPs through electronic bidding, and the main reason of not using SAPs was the higher price of SAPs than that of general agricultural products. The good agricultural practices (GAP) product was considered the most appropriate agricultural products for school meals by the majority of respondents (66.9%), and organic products was the next (13.3%). In addition, the most important selection criterion for a SAP perceived by school dietitians was safety (58.0%), and the main reason of using SAPs in school meals, when two choices were allowed, was 'to provide healthful food to children' (98.9%). The major barriers to using SAPs in school meals (two choices were allowed) were 'too expensive' (73.5%) and 'unstable supply' (32.6). In conclusion, it was suggested that there should be an improvement in SAP supply and management systems to increase the use of SAPs in school meals.

  • The Internet, the main issue of a new millennium, is being researched vitally for the progress of the construction industry, and the construction industry is considered to be led into a high-value added state-of-arts technology industry through CALS. Even if many construction companies gradually widen the use of the Internet for various purposes such as an electronic bidding system and an e-commerce system, the companies are still demanded to use the Internet more broadly and practically. Hence, the need for a tool for fast decision making and an effective construction management has risen. The PRIMA system has been developed specifically focused on meeting with those recent changes of the construction industry. This system is composed of three parts. Those are Just In Time(JIT) management, integrated application of man power${\cdot}$safety${\cdot}$work management and decision making process based on real-time information in the Internet. The usefulness of the PRIMA system has already been proved in a super-scale construction project. As the Internet environment get improved the use of the tool will be spread out gradually for many construction projects, regardless their size and location.

  • Recently, some of people are keep in research and development of the further more efficient and convenient auction systems using intelligent software agents in electronic commerce. The purpose of this thesis is that a simple auction system has web bulletin boards, is aided by intelligent agent, and generates pertinent auction duration time and starting price for auction goods of auctioneer into a auction system, then the auctioneer gets the highest margin. The seller who want to sell goods, is using internet sends mail that has information for goods to agent of internet auction system. The agent undertake filtering process for already learned information about similar goods. And it calculate duration time and start price from stored bidding history database. In this thesis we propose a mailing agent system pushing information in internet auction that enables to aid decision for auctioneer about the starting time and price which delivers the highest margin.

  • Distributed applications based on standards such as CORBA, DCOM, and EJB have been widely used in distributed environments. Recently, another XML-based standard, SOAP, has been recommended for web applications. However, these standards have a shortcoming in inter-operation because they can be run on their own environments. In this paper, we design and implement a SOAP bridge for inter-operation of SOAP with other distributed object standards. Its function is to map formats between SOAP and CORBA/DCOM at run time. Through performance experiments, we show that the computing overhead is small compared to the whole transaction execution time. Therefore, distributed objects of other platforms can be reused instead of developing new objects based on SOAP. Also, using the SOAP bridge, we design and implement an XML-based bidding system on the web. Because it is based on the web standards, it has advantages such as extendibility and interoperability compared to previous proprietary electronic commerce systems.

  • Since the year of 2003, the overseas plant market has grown by an average of 6% per year. It is because of the increase of oil-money, economic growth of BRICs, and the result of heavy competition among the countries which demands a great amount of resources for the purpose of resource securing. Such a situation is expected to be continued for a while. The procurement is one of critical functions for successful completion of a plant project. For effective procurement, it is required to manage vendor's information efficiently. But most of the vendor management systems deal with simple general information and performance data about vendors. In this sense, this paper proposes a vendor management system which can be used within a decision-making system. The system uses existing DB and makes the close relationship with the vendors. This paper will also reduce risks and difficulties in the process of selecting the proper vendors and will increase efficiency of procurement process in electronic bidding between companies.

  • In this paper, Nash equilibriums of generation markets are investigated using a game theory application for simplified competitive electricity markets. We analyze the characteristics of equilibrium states in N-company spot markets modeled by uniform pricing auctions and propose a new method for obtaining Nash equilibriums of the auction. We assume that spot markets are operated as uniform pricing auctions and that each generation company submits its bids into the auction in the form of a seal-bid. Depending on the bids of generation companies, market demands are allocated to each company accordingly. The uniform pricing auction in this analysis can be formulated as a non-cooperative and static game in which generation companies correspond to players of the game. The coefficient of the bidding function of company-n is the strategy of player-n (company-n) and the payoff of player-n is defined as its profit from the uniform price auction. The solution of this game can be obtained using the concept of the non-cooperative equilibrium originating from the Nash idea. Based on the so called residual demand curve, we can derive the best response function of each generation company in the uniform pricing auction with N companies, analytically. Finally, we present an efficient means to obtain all the possible equilibrium set pairs and to examine their feasibilities as Nash equilibriums. A simple numerical example with three generation companies is demonstrated to illustrate the basic idea of the proposed methodology. From this, we can see the applicability of the proposed method to the real-world problem, even though further future analysis is required.
