Fabrication of good quality P-type GaN remained as a challenge for many years which hindered the III-V nitrides from yielding visible light emitting devices. Firstly Amano et al succeeded in obtaining P-type GaN films using Mg doping and post Low Energy Electron Beam Irradiation (LEEBI) treatment. However only few region of the P-GaN was activated by LEEBI treatment. Later Nakamura et al succeeded in producing good quality P-GaN by thermal annealing method in which the as deposited P-GaN samples were annealed in N2 ambient at temperatures above $600^{\circ}C$. The carrier concentration of N type and P-type GaN differs by one order which have a major effect in AlGaN based deep UV-LED fabrication. So increasing the P-type GaN concentration becomes necessary. In this study we have proposed a novel method of activating P-type GaN by electrochemical potentiostatic method. Hydrogen bond in the Mg-H complexes of the P-type GaN is removed by electrochemical reaction using KOH solution as an electrolyte solution. Full structure LED sample grown by MOCVD serves as anode and platinum electrode serves as cathode. Experiments are performed by varying KOH concentration, process time and applied voltage. Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy (SIMS) analysis is performed to determine the hydrogen concentration in the P-GaN sample activated by annealing and electrochemical method. Results suggest that the hydrogen concentration is lesser in P-GaN sample activated by electrochemical method than conventional annealing method. The output power of the LED is also enhanced for full structure samples with electrochemical activated P-GaN. Thus we propose an efficient method for P-GaN activation by electrochemical reaction. 30% improvement in light output is obtained by electrochemical activation method.

Compound samples based on the mineral-like magnesium potassium phosphate matrix $MgKPO_4{\times}6H_2O$ were synthesized by solidification of high level waste surrogate. Phase composition and structure of synthesized samples were studied by XRD and SEM methods. Compressive strength of the compounds is $12{\pm}3MPa$. Coefficient of thermal expansion of the samples in the range $250-550^{\circ}C$ is $(11.6{\pm}0.3){\times}10^{-6}1/^{\circ}C$, and coefficient of thermal conductivity in the range $20-500^{\circ}C$ is $0.5W/(m{\times}K)$. Differential leaching rate of elements from the compound, $g/(cm^2{\times}day)$: $Mg-6.7{\times}10^{-6}$, $K-3.0{\times}10^{-4}$, $P-1.2{\times}10^{-4}$, $^{137}Cs-4.6{\times}10^{-7}$; $^{90}Sr-9.6{\times}10^{-7}$; $^{239}Pu-3.7{\times}10^{-9}$, $^{241}Am-9.6{\times}10^{-10}$. Leaching mechanism of radionuclides from the samples at the first 1-2 weeks of the leaching test is determined by dissolution ($^{137}Cs$), wash off ($^{90}Sr$) or diffusion ($^{239}Pu$ and $^{241}Am$) from the compound surface, and when the tests continue to 90-91 days - by surface layer depletion of compound. Since the composition and physico-chemical properties of the compound after irradiation with an electron beam (absorbed dose of 1 MGy) are constant the radiation resistance of compound was established.
Pork loins that retailed in market were used as experimental samples. Some pork samples in raw state were packaged with PVDC in either aerobic or vacuum condition. The other pork samples were cooked until core temperature reached at 70$\^{C}$ and then packaged immediately in the same way with the raw samples. After these samples were irradiated by electron beam 6 kGy, the samples were stored in a refrigerator (2∼4$\^{C}$). Identification and quantification of cholesterol oxides were performed at 0 and 7 days. The results were following. During the early stage of storage, cholesterol oxides were not produced from the raw meat samples, but with the passage of storage time,7 $\alpha$-hydroxycholesterol, 7$\beta$-hydroxycholesterol, 7-ketocholesterol, 20 $\alpha$-hydroxycholesterol, $\beta$-epoxide and $\alpha$-epoxide, which were not produced during the early stage of storage, were produced. The production of cholesterol and lipid oxidation products were significantly higher (P<0.05) in the meats with aerobic packaging than those with vacuum packaging, Cooked meat after irradiation showed 7 $\alpha$-hydroxycholesterol, 7 $\beta$-hydroxycholesterol, $\alpha$-epoxide and cholestanetriol on the 7th day of storage, although those chemicals were not produced during the early stage of storage. Production of cholesterol oxides was significantly increased (P<0.05) with the passage of storage time for all treatments, and showed significantly lower value (P<0.05) with the vacuum packaging than these for aerobic packaging. Species of cholesterol oxides from irradiated meat after cooking were similar to those from cooked meat after irradiation. Collectively, it was found that the production of cholesterol oxides was more easily affected by packaging condition than irradiation.
$^{123}I$, which is applied for the thyroid and other in vivo kinetic study, has a special role in life sciences. The 159 KeV $\gamma-ray$ from $^{123}I$ is almost ideally appropriate for the current imaging instrumentation. Its decay mode (electron capture) and short half-life (13.3 hr) reduced the burden of radiation dose to the patients, and its chemical property makes it easy to synthesize the labelling compounds. In this experiment, the production of $^{123}I$ via the nuclear reaction $^{124}Te(p,2n)^{123}I$ with 28 MeV protons was sutdied. $TeO_2$ is used as a target material, because it has good physical properties. The target was prepared with $TeO_2$ powder and was molten into a ellipsoidal cavity (a=14 mm, b=10 mm, $270.8mg/cm^2$ thick) of pure platinum. The irradiation was carried out in the external proton beam with incident energies range from 28 MeV to 22 MeV, and current was $30{\mu}A$. The loss of $TeO_2$ target was significantly reduced by using $4\pi-cooling$ system in irradiation. The dry distillation method was adopted for the separation of $^{123}I$ from irradiated target, and when it was kept 5 minutes at $780^{\circ}C$, its result was quantitative. The loss of the target material $(TeO_2)$ was below 0.2% for each production run and $^{123}I$ from the dry distillation apparatus was captured with 0.01 N NaOH in $Na^{123}I$ form, then the pH of the solution was adjusted to $7.5\sim9.0$ with HC1/NaOH. The $Na^{123}I$ solution was passed through $0.2{\mu}m$ membrane filter, and sterilized under high pressure and temperature for 30 minutes. The production of $^{123}I$ is acceptable for clinical application based on the quality of USP XXI.
A surface of polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) was modified with changing ion doses by 1 keV $Ar^+$ ion irradiation and Cu films having thickness $5000\;{\AA}$ were deposited on the modified PTFE. The SEM study showed that the surface texture of modified PTFE was in the form of cones whose height increased depending on ion doses. Through XPS spectra, it was found that the intensity of F ls peaks decreased with ion doses by preferential sputtering of F atoms and the C-C and / or C-F chains were formed by the crosslinking in the newly unstable chains. Cu films were deposited uniformly along the filaments formed on the modified PTFE. In x-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra of deposited Cu films on modified PTFE, a preferred orientation along (111) and (200) planes was found and the peak intensity of (111) plane increased as surface roughness of modified PTFE increased. The resistivity of Cu films was changed from $2.7{\mu}{\Omega}cm$ of unmodified PTFE to $4.3{\mu}{\Omega}cm$ of modified PTFE at ion dose of $1{\times}10^{16}/\textrm{cm}^2$ and the abrupt increase of resistivity in the modified PTFE at ion dose of $1{\times}10^{17}/\textrm{cm}^2$ was due to being cut off the film which resulted from the increased surface roughness.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the surface morphology and measure shear bond strength of Er : YAG lased enamel. To determine the most effective energy density of laser for improving bonding strength of human enamel, 24 specimen were lased from 30mJ to 150mJ at 1Hz used focused, defocused beam. After irradiation, the lased specimen were observed scanning electron microscope. To determine the resin shear bond strength of Er : YAG lased enamel, the 90 specimen were divided into 3 groups. The Control group was etched with 37% phosphoric acid for 15seconds and rinsed. Group 1 was only laser irradiaton(60mJ, 10Hz), Group 2 was irradiated as Group 1 regimen, followed 37% phosphoric acid etching. The following results were obtained: 1. In both focused and defocused Er : YAG lased enamel surface are similar to acid-etched enamel more than 60mJ in SEM evaluation. 2. The more increased laser energy, the more observed fissuring surface. 3. The highest mean shear bond strength value was observed in control group with the statistical significance(p<0.05) between all the other groups and the shear bond strength in group 1 was the lowest with significant difference among the other groups.
A tumor on the eyelid is often treated using a high-energy electron beam, with a metallic eye shield inserted between the eyelid and the eyeball to preserve the patient's sight. Pretreatment quality assurance of the inner eyelid dose on the metallic shield requires a very small dosimetry tool. For enhanced accuracy, a flexible device fitting the curved interface between the eyelid and the shield is also required. The radiochromic film is the best candidate for this device. To measure the doses along the curved interface and small area, a 3-mm-wide strip of EBT2 film was inserted between the phantom eyelid and the shield. After irradiation with 6 MeV electron beams, the film was evaluated for the dose profile. An acrylic eye shield of the same size as the real eye shield was machined, and CT images free from metal artifacts were obtained. Monte Carlo simulation was performed on the CT images, taking into account eye shield material, such as tungsten, aluminum, and steel. The film-based interface dose distribution agreed with the MC calculation within 2.1%. In the small (millimeter scale) and curved region, radiochromic film dosimetry promises a satisfactory result with easy handling.
[ $\underline{Purpose}$ ]: To determine the patterns of evaluation and treatment in patients with breast cancer after mastectomy and treated with radiotherapy. A nationwide study was performed with the goal of improving radiotherapy treatment. $\underline{Materials\;and\;Methods}$: A web- based database system for the Korean Patterns of Care Study (PCS) for 6 common cancers was developed. Randomly selected records of 286 eligible patients treated between 1998 and 1999 from 17 hospitals were reviewed. $\underline{Results}$: The ages of the study patients ranged from 20 to 80 years (median age 44 years). The pathologic T stage by the AJCC was T1 in 9.7% of the cases, T2 in 59.2% of the cases, T3 in 25.6% of the cases, and T4 in 5.3% of the cases. For analysis of nodal involvement, N0 was 7.3%, N1 was 14%, N2 was 38.8%, and N3 was 38.5% of the cases. The AJCC stage was stage I in 0.7% of the cases, stage IIa in 3.8% of the cases, stage IIb in 9.8% of the cases, stage IIIa in 43% of the cases, stage IIIb in 2.8% of the cases, and IIIc in 38.5% of the cases. There were various sequences of chemotherapy and radiotherapy after mastectomy. Mastectomy and chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy was the most commonly performed sequence in 47% of the cases. Mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy followed by additional chemotherapy was performed in 35% of the cases, and neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy was performed in 12.5% of the cases. The radiotherapy volume was chest wall only in 5.6% of the cases. The volume was chest wall and supraclavicular fossa (SCL) in 20.3% of the cases; chest wall, SCL and internal mammary lymph node (IMN) in 27.6% of the cases; chest wall, SCL and posterior axillary lymph node in 25.9% of the cases; chest wall, SCL, IMN, and posterior axillary lymph node in 19.9% of the cases. Two patients received IMN only. The method of chest wall irradiation was tangential field in 57.3% of the cases and electron beam in 42% of the cases. A bolus for the chest wall was used in 54.8% of the tangential field cases and 52.5% of the electron beam cases. The radiation dose to the chest wall was $45{\sim}59.4\;Gy$ (median 50.4 Gy), to the SCL was $45{\sim}59.4\;Gy$ (median 50.4 Gy), and to the PAB was $4.8{\sim}38.8\;Gy$, (median 9 Gy) $\underline{Conclusion}$: Different and various treatment methods were used for radiotherapy of the breast cancer patients after mastectomy in each hospital. Most of treatment methods varied in the irradiation of the chest wall. A separate analysis for the details of radiotherapy planning also needs to be followed and the outcome of treatment is needed in order to evaluate the different processes.
Chicken thigh from a retail market were used as experimental samples. Some chicken samples of raw state were packaged with PVDC at an aerobic and vacuum condition. The other samples were cooked until core temperature arrived at 70$^{\circ}C$ and then packaged immediately in the same way of raw samples. After samples were irradiated by electron beam at 6 kGy, they were stored in a refrigerator. Identification and quantity of cholesterol oxides were made at 0 and 7 days of storage, respectively. During the early stage of storage, 7$\beta$-hydroxycholesterol, $\alpha$,$\beta$-epoxide, cholestanetriol and 7-ketocholesterol were produced from the raw meat samples, and the production of these chemicals were significantly higher(P〈0.05) from the samples with aerobic packaging than those with vacuum packaging. With storage time, 7$\alpha$-hydroxycholesterol, 6-ketocholesterol and some other chemicals, which were not found during the early stage of storage, were found. Also, the formation of these chemicals were significantly increased(P〈0.05) with storage time. Cholesterol and lipid oxidation products of cooked meat after irradiation and irradiated meat after cooking were significantly increased(P〈0.05) with storage time for all treatments, and vacuum packaging results in showed significantly lower value(P〈0.05) than aerobic packaging. Summarizing the aforementioned results, it was found that the formation of cholesterol and lipid oxides and lipid oxidation was more easily affected by packaging condition than irradiation.

Purpose: In this study, we analyzed how the dose change by field size effects on atomic number of shielding materials while using 6 MeV election beam. Materials and Methods: The parallel plate chamber is mounted in $25{\times}25cm^2$ the phantom such that the entrance window of the detector is flush with the phantom surface. phantom was covered laterally with aluminum, copper and lead which thickness have 5% of allowable transmission and then the doses were measured in field size $6{\times}6$, $10{\times}10$ and $20{\times}20cm^2$ respectively. 100 cGy was irradiated using 6 MeV electron beam and SSD (Source Surface Distance) was 100 cm with $10{\times}10cm^2$ field size. To calculate the photon flux, electron flux and Energy deposition produced after pass materals respectively, MCNPX code was used. Results: The results according to the various shielding materials which have 5% of allowable transmission are as in the following. Thickness change rate with field size of $6{\times}6cm^2$ and $20{\times}20cm^2$ that compared to the field size of $10{\times}10cm^2$ found to be +0.06% and -0.06% with aluminum, +0.13% and -0.1% with copper, -1.53% and +1.92% with lead respectively. Compare to the field size $10{\times}10cm^2$, energy deposition for $6{\times}6cm^2$ and $20{\times}20cm^2$ had -4.3% and +4.85% respectively without shielding material. With aluminum it had -0.87% and +6.93% respectively and with lead it had -4.16% and +5.57% respectively. When it comes to photon flux with $6{\times}6cm^2$ and $20{\times}20cm^2$ of field sizes the chance -8.95% and +15.92% without shielding material respectively, with aluminum the number -15.56% and +16.06% respectively and with copper the chance -12.27% and +15.53% respectively, with lead the number +12.36% and -19.81% respectively. In case of electron flux in the same condition, the number -3.92% and +4.55% respectively without shielding material respectively, with aluminum the number +0.59% and +6.87% respectively, with copper the number -1.59% and +3.86% respectively, with lead the chance -5.15% and +4.00% respectively. Conclusion: In this study, we found that the required thickness of the shielding materials got thinner with low atomic number substance as the irradiation field is increasing. On the other hand, with high atomic number substance the required thickness had increased. In addition, bremsstrahlung radiation have an influence on low atomic number materials and high atomic number materials are effected by scattered electrons.
