A Torque Ripple Reduction Drive Strategy for Permanent Magnet Brushless DC Motor with Imperfect Back Electromotive Force (역기전력을 고려 한 브러시레스 전동기의 토크리플 저감에 관한 구동 방식에 대한 연구)

  • This paper presents a drive strategy to reduce torque ripple of a permanent magnet Brushless DC Motor(BLDCM) with short $120^{\circ}$ flat top Back Electromotive Force(Back-EMF). In this strategy, the phase Back-EMF is divided into four sections. Then, in each section the phase current is regulated by corresponding PWM duty ratio to compensatethe torque ripple caused by imperfect Back-EMF. A program based on this strategy has been implemented in MATLAB@Simulink. The validity of the presented method is verified by simulation results.

  • This paper was researched about effectiveness of the electrochemical cell which is composed of the sea water and the Cu/Zn electrode. The electric potential difference between copper and zinc finally reached 0.51 volts. Short current decreased with time. It might depend on the electromotive force decreasing. Confirmed the load resistance and electrode affect in electromotive force and electric current. The resistance which shows a maximum output power was 20[$\Omega$], and the maximum output power from this resistance was evaluated as 0.736mW. In order to calculate the energy which creates from electrochemical cell, charging voltage of the capacitor with various capacitance was investigated. It was found that energy harvesting possibility of the cell which is made of a sea water electrolyte and the copper/the zinc.

  • This study concerns the transmission of energy and data using induced electromotive force. Due to the requirements of weapon systems, most arms are kept in an armory for a very long time before being used. During this time, the reserve battery, which serves mostly as a power supply for the electronic fuze, can be degraded, thus causing problems when it is actually needed. We attempt to solve the various problems associated with the old fuze system caused by long-term storage by using the 'induction power' transmitted from another device just before its operation, instead of using 'built-in power'. We tried to find the best carrier frequency to communicate with the system by induced electromotive force. Also, we changed the communication method for transmitting the 'induction power' from 'FM/AM modulation' to 'Duty ratio modulation', which can transmit a large amount of data in a short time. Through experiments, it was demonstrated that the induction coil can replace the reserve fuze's battery without any problem, thus confirming the possibility of using an induction coil as the power supply source of the electronic fuze.

Stabilization of Thermo Electromotive Force of Power Type Shunt Resistor for Mass Storage Secondary Battery Management System (대용량 이차전지 관리 시스템용 전력형 션트저항의 열기전력 안정화)

  • In this paper, we prepared a metal alloy resistor with stable thermal electro motive force (thermal EMF) as well as a low temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) by adjusting the manganese proportion from 3 to 12 wt% in the Cu-Mn-Ni alloy. Composition of the fabricated metal alloy was investigated using energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. The TCR of each sample was measured as 44.56, 40.54, 35.60, and 31.56 ppm for Cu-3Mn-2Ni, Cu-5Mn-2Ni, Cu-10Mn-2Ni, and Cu-12Mn-2Ni, respectively. All the resistor samples were available for the F grade (${\pm}1%$ of the allowable error of resistance) high-precision resistor. All the samples satisfied the baseline of high thermal EMF (under 3 mV at $60^{\circ}C$); however, Cu-3Mn-2Ni and Cu-5Mn-2Ni satisfied the baseline of low thermal EMF (under 0.3 mV at $25^{\circ}C$). We were thus able to design and fabricate the metal alloy resistor of Cu-3Mn-2Ni and Cu-5Mn-2Ni to have low TCR and stable thermal EMF at the same time.

Thrust Characteristics Analysis considering the effect of the loops of flux in a LIM for Railway Transit (맴돌이 자속의 영향을 고려한 철도차량용 선형유도전동기의 추력 특성 연구)

  • In the case of Linear induction motor(LIM), numerical analysis method like Finite Element Method(FEM) has been mainly used to analyze the travelling magnetic field problem which includes the velocity-induced electromotive force. If the problem including the velocity-induced electromotive force is analyzed by FEM using Galerkin method, the solution can be oscillated according to Peclet Number, which is determined by conductivity, permeability, moving velocity and size of mesh. Consequently, the accuracy of the solution can be low and the Loops of flux can be occurred at the secondary back-iron. These loops of flux occurred at the secondary back-iron does not exist physically, but it can be occurred in the analysis. In this case, the loops of flux can be generally removed by using Up-Wind method which is impossible to apply a conventional S/W tool(Maxwell 2D). Therefore, in this paper, authors examined the Loops of flux occurred at the secondary back-iron of LIM according to variations of Peclet Number, and analyzed whether these loops of flux affect on the thrust force characteristics of LIM or not.

Electromotive Force Characteristics of Current Transformer According to the Magnetic Properties of Ferromagnetic Core

  • The most common structure of the current transformer (CT) consists of a length of wire wrapped many times around a silicon steel ring passed over the circuit being measured. Therefore, the primary circuit of CT consists of a single turn of the conductor, with a secondary circuit of many tens or hundreds of turns. The primary winding may be a permanent part of the current transformer, with a heavy copper bar to carry the current through the magnetic core. However, when the large current flows into a wire, it is difficult to measure its magnitude of current because the core is saturated and the core shows magnetic nonlinear characteristics. Therefore, we proposed a newly designed CT which has an air gap in the core to decrease the generated magnetic flux. Adding the air gap in the magnetic path increases the total magnetic reluctance against the same magnetic motive force (MMF). Using a ferrite core instead of steel also causes the generation of low magnetic flux. These features can protect the magnetic saturation of the CT core compared with the steel core. This technique can help the design of the CT to obtain a special shape and size.

  • Recently, due to the rapid development of electric vehicle and energy storage system, it is emphasized for battery management system to be needed and to be improved. BMS carries out various movement for optimization the use of the energy and safe use of secondary battery, these movement of BMS start at high wattage shunt fixed resistor which performs a function for detecting current among the BMS components. In addition, for the safe operation of secondary battery, the reliability of current voltage variation detected from shunt should be secured, and for corresponding characteristics, the quality of Temperature coefficient of resistance for BMS shunt and the quality of Thermo electromotive force all must be excellent. For these reasons, this study comes up with the stabilization plan for thermo electromotive force and temperature coefficient of resistance of BMS shunt resistor which is key to secondary battery operation.

  • Acid type saturated Weston cells that can be used as the standard of electromotive force unit were constructed and their characteristics in a specially designed enclosure were evaluated. Cadmium sulfate was purified by recrystallization under vaccum. Mercurous sulfate with dispersed mercury and the exact composition of cadmium amalgam were obtained by means of electrolysis. The enclosure was constructed using a commercial circulator. Temperature of the enclosure was only drifted in the range of ${\pm}$5 mK in the case of extreme change of room temperature. The electromotive force of standard cells was measured over the temperature range of 5∼${\sim} 30^{\circ}C$. The standard deviation of the electromotive forces was about 1 ppm.

  • The paper describes a new PWM technique, which is suitable for brushless servo drives. By taking into consideration the armature electromotive force, an appropriate switching voltage vector can be selected to enable switching rate reduction. Simulation results show better steady-state performance of this method than that of the classical technique.

Study of changes in the kinetic parameters of corrosion on the macrocell current induced by the repair of reinforced concrete structures - Results of numerical simulation

  • Corrosion of reinforcing bars in reinforced concrete structures due to chloride attack in environments containing chloride ions is one of the most important factors in the destruction of concrete structures. According to the abundant reports that the corrosion rate around the repair area has increased due to the macro-cell current known as the incipient anode, it is necessary to understand the effective parameters. The main objective of this paper is to investigate the effect of the kinetic parameters of corrosion including the cathodic Tafel slope, exchange current density, and equilibrium potential in repair materials on the total corrosion rate and maximum corrosion rate in the patch repair system. With the numerical simulation of the patch repair system and concerning the effect of parameters such as electromotive force (substrate concrete activity level), length of repair area, and resistivity of substrate and repair concrete, and with constant other parameters, the sensitivity of the macro-cell current caused by changes in the kinetic parameters of corrosion of the repairing materials has been investigated. The results show that the maximum effect on the macro-cell current values occurred with the change of cathodic Tafel slope, and the effect change of exchange current density and the equilibrium potential is almost the same. In the low repair extant and low resistivity of the repairing materials, with the increase in the electromotive force (degree of substrate concrete activity) of the patch repair system, the sensitivity of the total corrosion current reduces with the reduction in the cathode Tafel slope. The overall corrosion current will be very sensitive to changes in the kinetic parameters of corrosion. The change in the cathodic Tafel slope from 0.16 to 0.12 V/dec and in 300 mV the electromotive force will translate into an increase of 200% of the total corrosion current. While the percentage of this change in currency density and equilibrium potential is 53 and 43 percent, respectively. Moreover, by increasing the electro-motive force, the sensitivity of the total corrosion current decreases or becomes constant. The maximum corrosion does not change significantly based on the modification of the corrosion kinetic parameters and the modification will not affect the maximum corrosion in the repair system. Given that the macro-cell current in addition to the repair geometry is influenced by the sections of reactions of cathodic, anodic, and ohmic drop in repair and base concrete materials, in different parameters depending on the dominance of each section, the sensitivity of the total current and maximum corrosion in each scenario will be different.
