This paper investigates the effect of absorption loss by a human body to the received signal strength with respect to on-body transmitting antenna positions in on-to-off wireless body area networks. This investigation is based on measurement results obtained from experiments performed on human bodies (male and female) using planar inverted-F antennas in an anechoic chamber. The total absorption loss by the human body is also presented through the SEMCAD-X simulations. Our investigation showed that the received signal strength becomes lower when the transmitting antenna is mounted at a specific position where more absorption loss is experienced. The statistical analyses of on-to-off body channel characteristics based on the measurement results are presented.

This paper presents two ground plane effects due to the size of two rectangular apertures for two-wire transmission line with equal line length crossing the changeable rectangular apertures in infinite ground planes. The CST MWS is used to determine the characteristics of the insertion loss of the transmission line from the load section in accordance with the ground plane aperture size. The results show that the insertion gain and the insertion loss are periodically observed for the multiple frequency of the half wavelength resonance by the wire length when the transmission line is nearby to horizontal side or vertical side of the aperture. The measurements of the insertion loss are performed to verify the theoretical analysis.
The effects of magnetic powder size on electromagnetic wave absorption characteristics in Fe-6.5Si-0.9Cr(wt%) alloy flakes/polymer composite sheets available for quasi-microwave band have been investigated. The composite sheet including small magnetic flakes with the size less than $26{\mu}m$ exhibited high power loss in the GHz frequency range as compared with the sheets having large alloy flakes of $45{\sim}75{\mu}m$. Moreover, both the complex permeability and the loss factor increased with the decrease in size of the alloy flakes. The large power loss of the sheets containing small magnetic flakes was attributed to the high complex permeability, especially their imaginary part. The high complex permeability of the sheets composed of small flakes was considered to be due to the highly thin shape of the flakes inducing low eddy-current loss.

Since high-speed train is a dynamic load in which electric power is externally supplied, contact loss between the catenary and pantograph occurs. This phenomena including vibrations generates frequently irregular arcs, which, in turn causes EMI. Thus it is very important to develop the approach to reduce arc phenomenon by contact loss, as speed of electric railway vehicle increases. In case of an electric railway vehicle using electrical power, compared with diesel rolling stock, Power Line Disturbance(PLD) such as harmonics, transient voltage and current, Electromagnetic Interference(EMI), and dummy signal injection etc usually occur. In this study, the dynamic characteristics of a contact wire and a pantograph suppling electrical power to high-speed train are investigated with an electrical response point. To implement power line disturbance induced by contact loss phenomenon for high speed train operation, a hardware simulator which considers contact loss between contact wire and pantograph as well as contact wire deviation is developed. It is confirmed by the experiments that contact loss effect is largely dependent on voltage conditions when the contact loss occurs. Also, a passive filter is designed to reduce power disturbance and the designed system is verified by experiment.
The absorption performance of a metal-backed single layered electromagnetic wave absorber is optimized at matching conditions of thickness and frequency indicating the maximum returns loss of incidence electromagnetic wave in the contour map. These matching conditions are obtained by applying the electromagnetic impedance to the transmission line theory, which depend on the complex permeability and complex permittivity of absorber material. The magnetic materials with high permeability can enhance the matching thickness condition to the wide frequency range based on the decrease of permeability with frequency and it can be used as a wideband electromagnetic wave absorber material. Therefore, the magnetic materials with higher saturation magnetization and lower permittivity than NiZn ferrite can be applied to the wideband electromagnetic wave absorber in order to satisfy the newly enforcing the electromagnetic compatibility regulation in the future.

This paper presents a low-loss broadband balun that uses a coplanar waveguide-to-slotline field transformation. It operates over a very wide frequency range and is of compact size since it does not depend on a resonant structure. To analyse imbalance, the coplanar wavelength(CPW) input ground is connected to the CPW output ground through various capacitors to introduce common-mode impedances. As the common-mode impedance increased the imbalance became significantly higher at the higher-frequency band compared with the lower-frequency band. The bias-circuit approach is used to improve the operation bandwidth of the lower-frequency band. The measured results show a passband of 200 MHz to 2 GHz, an insertion loss of less than 0.75 dB, and a size of $20{\times}14\;mm$. The amplitude imbalance is approximately 0.3 dB and the phase imbalance is less than $6^{\circ}$ over the entire operational range.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the path loss for the mobile cellular system. The maximum distance is 150 km and the area is about 6,000 $\textrm{km}^2$ and the field test was performed for the total 5 base stations. The path loss was calculated by Hata and Okumura models, respectively. As a result, it was shown that a proper model for the field test data is the middle one between the rural model and suburban/rural Hata model.
When compared with traditional power frequency generators, the frequency of a super high-speed permanent magnet generator (SHSPMG) is a lot higher. In order to study the influence of frequency on the electromagnetic field of SHSPMGs, a 60000rpm, 117kW SHSPMG was taken as a research object. The two-dimensional finite element model of the generator was established, and the two-dimensional transient field of the generator was simulated. In addition, a test platform of the generator was set up and tested. The reliability of the simulation was verified by comparing the experiment data with that of the simulation. Then the generator electromagnetic field under different frequencies was studied, and the influence mechanism of frequency on the generator electromagnetic field was revealed. The generator loss, voltage regulation rate, torque and torque ripple were analyzed under the rated active power load and different frequencies. The influences of frequency on the eddy current density, loss, voltage regulation rate and torque ripple of the generator were obtained. These conclusions can provide some reference for the design and optimization of SHSPMGs.

EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) usually means High Power Electromagnetic Wave (HPEM). In the case of the shielding plate against the EMP, there is a possibility of deterioration of the electromagnetic wave shielding performance due to the skill of the constructor, bad construction, deformation of the shielding plate at the connection portion (joint portion). The inefficient use of space due to the separation distance is also pointed out as a problem. Therefore, this study aims to derive the optimum electromagnetic shielding condition by applying ATMSM to concrete as a part of securing electromagnetic wave shielding performance with reflection loss against concrete wall. Experimental parameters included concrete wall thickness and application of Zn-Al ATMSM. For the concrete wall, the wall thickness was 100 to 300mm, which is generally applied, and experimental parameters were set for the application of Zn-Al metal spraying method to evaluate electromagnetic shielding performance. Experimental results showed that as the thickness increases, the electromagnetic shielding performance increases due to the increase of absorption loss. In addition, after the application of Zn-Al ATMSM, the average shielding performance increased by 56.68 dB on average, which is considered to be increased by the reflection loss of the ATMSM. In addition, it is considered that the shielding performance will be better than that when the conductive mixed material and the ATMSM are simultaneously applied.

Wide spread using of mobile and handy electronic apparatus is giving rise to a question on the harmfulness of health and causing troubles when electical and electronic equipments are in use. This paper reports on the experimental results obtained by using a pliable and structured specimen that has a long shape aperture, made of stainless steel fibers. Based on the TEM mode transfer structure that was designed and manufactured through HFSS, we measured electromagnetic shielding effectives, where the network analyzer was applied. We could draw a conclusion from this research that the metal fabric showed a good electromagnetic shielding effect, mainly by means of the good reflex loss at the fiber surface. Even though the material itself possesses a good absorption loss. the specimen revealed that structural factors. e.g.. the shape of the aperture. the size of the aperture, etc., can have a more influence on the shielding effect than the components of material have. A special notice is required for modeling and analyzing the electromagnetic characteristics of metal fabrics, because there exists a strong possibility that multiple reflection can happen on the surface of metal fibers. which can presume a model of fiber bundle and fabric structure.
