Numerical investigation of an MR damper-based smart passive control system for mitigating vibration of stay cables

  • An extensive numerical investigation on the magnetorheological (MR) damper-based smart passive control system for mitigating vibration of stay cables under wind loads has been conducted. The smart passive system is incorporated with an electromagnetic induction (EMI) device for reducing complexity of the conventional MR damper based semi-active control system by eliminating an external power supply part and a feedback control part (i.e., sensors and controller). In this study, the control performance of the smart passive system has been evaluated by using a cable structure model extracted from a full-scale long stay cable with high tension. Numerical simulation results of the proposed smart damping system are compared with those of the passive and semi-active control systems employing MR dampers. It is demonstrated from the results that the control performance of the smart passive control system is better than those of the passive control cases and comparable to those of the semi-active control systems in the forced vibration analysis as well as the free vibration analysis, even though there is no external power source in the smart passive system.

결함 접지 구조를 이용한 고성능 위상 천이기 (High Efficient Phase Shifters Using Defected Ground Structures)

  • 본 논문은 결함 접지 구조(DGS)를 이용하여 높은 위상 천이 특성을 갖는 새로운 위상 천이기를 제안하였다. 결함 접지 구조의 공진점 부근에서 발생하는 큰 위상 변화를 위상 천이기에 이용하기 위해 결함 접지 구조를 갖는 위상 천이기 부하에 바렉터 다이오드를 실장하였다. 두 가지 방식의 위상 천이기를 branch-line hybrid와 coupled line hybrid를 이용하여 구현하였으며, 실험 결과 제안된 위상 천이기는 기존의 방식을 이용한 것의 최대 위상 천이 값과 비교하여 각각 $135\%$$221\%$의 위상 천이값 증가를 보였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 최대 무선전력전송 효율 구현에 필요한 최적 부하저항을 수신기 입력 임피던스(통상 $50{\Omega}$)에 바로 정합하기 위하여 수신 코일의 권선 수를 제어하는 방법을 제안한다. 수신 코일 권선 수와 도선 사이의 근접 효과가 고려된 최적 부하저항의 수식에 따라 수신 코일을 설계, 제작 및 측정하였다. 이론과 EM 시뮬레이션, 측정을 통하여 최적 부하 저항과 효율을 비교한 결과 비교적 잘 일치함을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 논문의 결과를 활용하면 별도의 급전 루프 없는 단순하고 부피가 작은 2-coil 시스템으로도 허용된 최대 전력을 구현할 수 있다.

TMD 제어성능 개선을 위한 ETMD 개발 (Development of ETMD for Improving TMD Control Performance)

  • The TMD has a simpler structure than other vibration control devices and shows excellent control performance for the standardized vibration occurring in the structure. However, when the vibration cycle of the structure coincides with the vibration cycle of the TMD due to the sudden external loads, the off-tuning occurs, which threatens the structure while increasing the vibration width of the TMD. Therefore, Electromagnetic Tuned Mass Damper (ETMD) was developed as a semi-active TMD that prevents off-tuning while exhibiting excellent control performance like TMD. To verify the control performance of the developed ETMD, the bending behavior control performance evaluation experiment using a simple beam bridge was performed. The experimental method compared the mutual control power by experimenting with the existing TMD method and the developed ETMD under nine excitation frequency conditions. As a result, it was confirmed that the control effect of ETMD was about 4.85% higher than that of TMD at 3.02Hz, which generates the maximum displacement in the simple beam bridge. Also, the off-tuning occurred in some excitation conditions when using TMD, although the off-tuning did not occur when using ETMD. Therefore, the excellent control performance of the ETMD developed in this study was verified.

  • Maglev vehicle has two parts a vehicle body and a series of bogies. The vehicle body is connected through a pneumatic suspension on the bogie frame operating loads, vehicle weight and passengers, repeatedly during the service life. The bogie frame plays an important role in sustaining the weight of the vehicle body and controlling the magnets in the correct alignment to meet requirements of stable running on railway. It is also subjected to the levitation and guidance force and propulsion force generated by electromagnets and linear induction motor (LIM) respectively. To guarantee a vehicle system, it is necessary to identify a load test method with proper loads that the vehicle is expected to experience while in service. In this paper, a test method was proposed to verify the structural safety of vehicle body and bogie frame that are applied to an EMS(electromagnetic suspension)-type urban Maglev vehicle considering in case of not only running on the ground but also levitated running.

Free vibration analysis of thick cylindrical MEE composite shells reinforced CNTs with temperature-dependent properties resting on viscoelastic foundation

  • The present study aims to analyze the magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) vibration of a functionally graded carbon nanotubes reinforced composites (FG-CNTRC) cylindrical shell. Electro-magnetic loads are applied to the structure and it is located on an elastic foundation which is simulated by visco-Pasternak type. The properties of the nano-composite shell are assumed to be varied by temperature changes. The third-order shear deformation shells theory is used to describe the displacement components and Hamilton's principle is employed to derive the motion differential equations. To obtain the results, Navier's method is used as an analytical solution for simply supported boundary condition and the effect of different parameters such as temperature variations, orientation angle, volume fraction of CNTs, different types of elastic foundation and other prominent parameters on the natural frequencies of the structure are considered and discussed in details. Design more functional structures subjected to multi-physical fields is of applications of this study results.

Remote-controlled micro locking mechanism for plate-type nuclear fuel used in upflow research reactors

  • Fuel locking mechanisms (FLMs) are essential in upward-flow research reactors to prevent accidental fuel separation from the core during reactor operation. This study presents a novel design concept for a remotely controlled plate-type nuclear fuel locking mechanism. By employing electromagnetic field analysis, we optimized the design of the electromagnet for fuel unlocking, allowing the FLM to adapt to various research reactor core designs, minimizing installation space, and reducing maintenance efforts. Computational flow analysis quantified the drag acting on the fuel assembly caused by coolant upflow. Subsequently, we performed finite element analysis and evaluated the structural integrity of the FLM based on the ASME boiler and pressure vessel (B&PV) code, considering design loads such as dead weight and flow drag. Our findings confirm that the new FLM design provides sufficient margins to withstand the specified loads. We fabricated a prototype comprising the driving part, a simplified moving part, and a dummy fuel assembly. Through basic operational tests on the assembled components, we verified that the manufactured products meet the performance requirements. This remote-controlled micro locking mechanism holds promise in enhancing the safety and efficiency of plate-type nuclear fuel operation in upflow research reactors.

고출력 에너지 사용 체계 플랫폼 실현을 위한 해군함정의 통합 동력 시스템 발전 경향 분석 (Analysis of Development Trend for the Integrated Power System of Naval Vessels to Perform the High-Power and Energy Mission Load Platform)

  • 본 논문은 고도로 발전된 군사과학 기술의 영향과 급변하는 해양전장환경의 디지털화, 함정생존성 극대화를 위한 고출력 센서체계 등 고출력 에너지 사용 체계 플랫폼 실현을 위한 해군함정의 통합 동력 시스템 발전 경향을 분석하는데 초점을 두었다. 함정에서 전자기를 이용하는 항공기 출격 시스템, 200NM(370km) 이상 원거리에서 정밀타격이 가능한 전자기 포 등 고출력 에너지를 사용하는 각종 무기체계가 탑재되기 위해서는 추진동력을 포함한 함정에 공급되는 모든 동력이 단일화 되어야하는 통합 동력 시스템으로 변화하는 것이 가장 이상적이다. 선진국을 중심으로 통합 동력 시스템을 실현하기 위해서 기계식 추진시스템에서 하이브리드 및 완전전기추진시스템으로 변화하고 있는 추세이며 이러한 노력은 연료사용의 절감, 함정 탑재 장비의 고출력화, 함정 총 수명주기 비용 절감 등을 포함하고 있다.

  • 본 논문에서는 전장용 아날로그 스위치 및 공조기 부하 유닛의 신뢰성 실험 중에서 EMC 스펙에 만족할 수 있도록 하는 필터 설계를 제안한다. EMC 규격에 만족하면서 전자부품들의 상호 간섭과 주변 환경의 영향을 최소화하고 제품의 품질 향상을 위해 전자파 필터를 적용하였다. 본 논문에서는 ISO/JASO 표준규격의 주파수범위인 30MHz ~ 1GHz 대역에서 스펙트럼 분석기와 간이 EMI 챔버를 이용한 시뮬레이션을 통해 특정 주파수 대역의 에너지 분포를 분석하였으며, 최적의 전자파 필터를 구현하기 위해 필터를 구성하는 소자의 용량을 결정하였다. 실제 필터 추가를 통해 노이즈가 감소한 것을 공인인증기관에서 증명하였으며, 전장용 아날로그 스위치 및 공조기 부하 유닛에 적용하여 전자파 간섭을 일으키지 않고 정상적인 동작을 수행하는 것을 확인하였다.

변압기 여자돌입에 의한 전력품질 분석 (Analysis of Power Quality by Transformer Inrush Current)

  • The transformer inrush current can cause a voltage drop by source impedance. This current can impact sensitive loads by the voltage drop. Therefore, it is necessary to take measures to limit this inrush current. This study, described in this paper, analyzes the power quality affected by transformer inrush current using the X power system in Korea. The Electromagnetic Transients Program(EMTP) is used to analyze the transient phenomenon. We discuss a method to model the hysteresis curve of the transformer in EMTP. We carried out various simulations to analyze the power quality during transformer energization. The analysis results of voltage drop by the inrush current occurrence when certain requirements are met are presented.
