  • This paper discusses effects of mesh planes on signal integrity in high-speed glass ceramic packages. One of serious signal integrity issues in high-speed glass ceramic packages is high far-end (FE) noise coupling between signal interconnects. Based on signal integrity analysis, a methodology is presented for reducing far-end noise coupling between signal interconnects in high-speed glass ceramic modules. This methodology employing power/ground mesh planes with alternating spacing and a via-connected coplanar-type shield (VCS) structure is suggested to minimize far-end noise coupling between signal lines in high-speed glass ceramic packages. Optimized interconnect structure based on this methodology has demonstrated that the saturated far-end noise coupling of a typical interconnect structure in glass ceramic modules could be reduced significantly by 73.3 %.

  • In this paper, the electromagnetic coupling problems are tackled on slots with nonzero thickness. The analysis is carried out by combination of the thin-wire concept and the Method of Moment(MoM) for the sake of improving computation efficiency. Under the conditions to be presented, slots can be replaced with wires that have effective radii. Also, the infinite summation-type Green's functions are calculated for the parallel-pale structure. A slot in an infinite ground is analyzed and its results are compared with the measurement in a literature. Furthermore, it is examined how the slots couple in parallel plates.

  • A novel Genetic Algorithm(GA)-based method is suggested to transform a coupling matrix to another, without the procedure of Matrix Rotation. This can remove tedious work like pivoting and deciding rotation angles needed for each of the iterations. The error function for the GA is simply formed and used as part of error minimization for obtaining the solution. An 8th order dual-mode elliptic integral function response filter is taken as an example to validate the present method.

  • The cylindrical TEM mode solution for electromagnetic coupling to an angled two-wire transmission line is corrected by imposing some physical constraints additionally. The validity of the correction process is assured by showing that the corrected solution approaches the numerical result for the equivalent model of cascaded piecewise uniform sections.

  • The propagation of electromagnetic waves in a photorefractive crystal is considered. The electromagnetic waves(i.e. TE waves and TM, waves) incident upon the crystal at any incident angle are coupled with reflected waves due to the Fresnel's reflectance in the photorefractive crystal. This coupling leads to a nonreciprocal optical transmissivity. About some incident angles, the optical transmissivity of TE and TM waves in regard to the coupling strength is investigated.

  • The optical power transfer of TM modes in grating-assisted directional couplers (GADCs) with three-guiding channels is rigorously evaluated by defining a novel coupling efficiency amenable to the rigorous analytical solutions of modal transmission-line theory (MTLT). The results reveal that the incident power is sensitively partitioned through three output channels in terms of such grating parameters as the period, the duty cycle, and wavelength.

  • An efficient method is presented to design filters without the similarity transform of their coupling coefficient matrix as circuit parameters, which is very tedious due to pivoting and deciding rotation angles needed during the iterations. The transfer function of a filter is directly used for the design and its desired form is derived by the optimized rational-function fitting technique. A 3rd order coaxial lowpass filter is taken as an example to validate the proposed method.

  • A dual-mode asymmetric canonical filter is widely used in an input demultiplexer for satellite transponder. This paper deals with a simple synthesis method fur an asymmetric canonical filter. The coupling matrix of an asymmetric canonical filter is obtained by applying plane rotation technique to the coupling matrix of a symmetric canonical filter. This paper gives a list of pivots and rotation angles to obtain the coupling matrix of asymmetric canonical structure filters. The coupling matrix of 8th and 10th order asymmetric canonical filter is obtained by this proposed method. It is shown that the frequency response of asymmetric canonical filter is identical to that of symmetric canonical filter.

  • In this paper, a compact dual-mode filter structure without coupling gaps is proposed. The novel design is achieved by embedding a pair of equal crossed slots and spur-lines. Without coupling gaps between feed lines and patch resonator, the new filter can provide low insertion loss. It is found that this design has wide coupling range for dual-mode operation. It means that these characteristics of the proposed filter can reduce uncertainty in fabrication. By using two PIN diodes mounted inside a pair of spur-lines, the proposed structure works as a switchable filter. Also, it has a size reduction of about 34.7 %, compared with conventional dual-mode filters.
