  • In the surface pressure-area isotherms of mixed monolayers, mixtures containing as much as 30 mol% of AA form stable condensed monolayer while the monolayer without AA is in the expanded state because PVK take on 3D collapsed. All of the mixed monolayers with 0, 10, 20 and 30 mol% of AA could be readily transferred onto ITO substrate at 16, 17, 24 and 26 mN/m, respectively. The monolayer containing 30 mol% of AA, however, showed a roughness value of 28A and became homogeneous decreasing with the phase separation. We fabricated organic EL device of ITO/CuPc/MEL/BBOT/iLiF/Al using mixed monolayer of 13, 19 and 25 layer deposited by LB method as a emitting layer. In the voltage-current characteristics of EL device, current density was much smaller than that of the spin-coated devices. It may due to the large contact resistance existed at the interface of LB layer/organic layer inhibit carrier injection to the emitting layer. EL spectra of device showed peaks at 450. 470, 505, 555 and 650 nm and the white light emission indicate the CIE coordinate x=0.306, y=0.353.

  • Organic thin film electroluminescent(EL) cells were fabricated. Their output characteristics and luminance versus voltage characteristics were measured with different work function metal electrodes. The EL structure was Indium-Tin-Oxide(ITO)/hole transport layer/emission layer(electron transport layer)/metal electrode. PMMA+TPD(0.5 wt%), MC homopolymer+TPD(0.005 wt%) and (MC/MMA) copolymer+TPD(0.005 wt%) were used as hole transport layer. Ca, Mg, Mg:Ag(10:l) and Al were used as metal electrode. I-V output showed exponential feature, and the threshold voltage of 5 volts and the luminance of over 700 $Cd/m^{2}$ at 10 volts were observed.

  • We fabricated electroluminescent(EL) devices which have a blended single emitting layer containing poly(N-vinylcarbazole)[PVK] and poly(3-dodecylthiophene)[P3DoDT]. The molar ratio between P3DoDT and PVK changed with 1:0, 2:1 and 1:1. To improve the external quantum efficiency of EL devices, we applied insulating layer, LiF layer, between polymer emitting layer and Al electrode. All of the devices emit orange-red light and its can be explained that the energy transfer occurs from PVK to P3DoDT. In the voltage-current and voltage-light power characteristics of devices applied LiF layer, current and light power drastically increased with increasing applied voltage. In the consequence of the result, the external quantum efficiency of the devices that have a molar ratio 1:1 with LiF layer was 35 times larger than that of the device without LiF layer at 6V.

  • A novel zinc complex, Zn(phen)q, was synthesized from 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) and 8-hydroxyquinoline (q) as organic ligands and its electroluminescent (EL) properties were characterized. The structure of Zn(phen)q was elucidated by FT-IR, UV-Vis and XPS. The complex Zn(phen)q showed thermal stability up to $300^{\circ}C$ under nitrogen flow, which was measured by TGA and DSC. The photoluminescence (PL) of the Zn(phen)q was measured from the THF solution and the solid film on quartz substrate. The PL emission of Zn(phen)q exhibited green light centered at about 505nm. The EL devices were fabricated by the vacuum deposition. The EL devices having the structure of ITO/a-NPD/Zn(phen)q/Li:Al were studied, where 4,4'-bis[N-(1-naphthyl)-N-phenylamino]biphenyl(a-NPD) used as a hole transport layer(HTL). a-NPD has high Tg of $96^{\circ}C$ and thus makes the device thermally stable. The EL emission of Zn(phen)q exhibited also green light centered at 532nm.

  • Zinc complexes with bis[2-(o-hydroxyphenyl) naphtol [1,2] oxazolato ligands (ZnPBO-4) and its derivatives (ZnPBO-S) were synthesized, and luminescent properties of these materials were investigated. Both the fluorescent emission band and electroluminescent emission band were discussed based on their ligand structure differences. The emission band found that it strongly depends on the molecular structure of introduced ligand. It was tuned from 446 nm to 491 nm by changing the ligand structures. Spreading of the ${\pi}$-conjugation in 2-(o-hydroxyphenyl) group gives rise to a blue shift. The EL properties also showed good consistency with their differences of ligand structure. Bright-blue EL emission with a maximum luminance of 3,100 $cd/m^2$ at 12V, current density, 575 $mA/m^2$ was obtained from the organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) using ZnPBO-4 as emitting layer. It was also found that the newly synthesized materials were suitable to be used as emitting materials in organic EL device.

  • Electroluminescent(EL) devices based on organic materials have been of great interest due to their possible applications for large-area flat-panel displays, where they are attractive because of their capability of multicolor emission, and low operation voltage. In this study, glass substrate/ITO/Eu(TTA)$_3$(phen)/Al, glass substrate/ITO/Eu(TTA)$_3$(phen)/Al and glass substrate/ITO/Eu(TTA)$_3$(phen)/AlQ$_3$/Al structures were fabricated by vacuum evaporation method, where aromatic diamine(TPD) was used as a hole transporting material, Eu(TTA)$_3$(phen) as an emitting material, and Tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminu-m(AlQ$_3$) as an electron transporting layer. Electrolumescent(EL) and I-V characteristics of Eu(TTA)$_3$-(-phen) were investigated. These structures show the red EL spectra, which are almost the same at the PL spectrum of Eu(TTA)$_3$(phen). I-V characteristics of this structure show that turn-on voltage was 9V and current density was 0.01A/㎤ at a operation voltage of 9V. Electrical transporting phenomena of these structures were explained using the trapped-charge-limited current model with I-V characteristics.

Electroluminescent(EL) and I-V characteristics of this structure were investigated. This triple-layer structure shows the green EL spectrum at the wavelwngth of 546nm, which is almost the same as the PL spectrum of $Pb(ACAC)_3(Phen_Cl)$. It was found in current-voltage(I-V) characteristics of the devices that the operating voltage was about 12V.

  • Lead-doped calcium sulfide(CaS:Pb) thin film electroluminescent devices were deposited using atomic layer deposition(ALD). CaS:Pb is a very promising blue phosphor showing very high luminance and the color coordinate close to the blue of cathode ray tube. The luminance, $L_{25}$, of CaS:Pb(1.6 mol.%) EL device was higher than 80 $cd/cm^2$ at a driving frequency of 60Hz. The color coordinates of blue EL emission of CaS:Pb deposited by ALD are consistent with the Pb concentration ranging from approximately 0.5 to 3 mol.%.
