  • Flow-Accelerated Corrosion behavior concerning both activation and mass transfer process of SA106 Gr.C steel was studied using rotating cylinder electrode in room temperature alkaline solution by DC and AC electrochemical techniques. Passive film was tanned from pH 9.8 by step oxidation of ferrous product into hydroxyl compound. Corrosion potential shifted slightly upward with rotating velocity through the diffusion of cathodic species. Corrosion current density increased with rotating velocity in pH 6.98, while it soon saturated from 1000 rpm at above pH 9.8. On the other hand the limiting current increased with rotating speed regardless of pH values. It seems that activation process, which represents formation of passive film on the bare metal surface, controls the entire corrosion kinetics

  • In order to investigate the quantitative behavior of galvanic corrosion in weld joints between stainless std이 and carbon steel, electrochemical polarization experiments were performed at pH4, pH7 and pH10 with boric acid concentration 4000ppm, and water temperature were selected as $35^{\circ}$C and $60^{\circ}$C. As the results, the galvanic corrosion phenomena of carbon steel weld material at $60^{\circ}$C was revealed $2{1\over2}$ times higher corrosion rate than that at $35^{\circ}$C condition. The corrosion rate of stainless steel was almost inedependent of the variation of pH. The significant corrosion rates of carbon steel and the weld joint of carbon-carbon steel were observed at pH 4.

  • The electrochemical behavir of trivalent lanthanides [Sm(Ⅲ), Tb(Ⅲ), and Yb(Ⅲ)) complexes were investigated by the use of direct current, differential pulse polarography and cyclic voltammetry in aprotic media. These reduction peak were irreversible one-electron processes at $E_{pc}$ = -0.16 V, -0.35 V, -0.14 V, and -0.03 V of trivalent lanthanide complexes vs. Ag/AgCl electrode and the behavior of heavier lanthanides were decreased Sm > Tb > Ho > Yb order of the stability constant with decreasing atomic number.

  • A poly(methyl red) film-modified glassy carbon electrode (PMRE) was fabricated for determination of norfloxacin (NFX). The electrochemical behavior of NFX was investigated and a well-defined oxidation peak with high sensitivity was observed at the film electrode. PMRE greatly enhanced the oxidation peak current of NFX owing to the extraordinary properties of poly(methyl red) film. Based on this, a sensitive and simple voltammetric method was developed for measurement of NFX. A sensitive linear voltammetric response for NFX was obtained in the concentration range of $1\;{\times}\;10^{-6}\;-\;1\;{\times}\;10^{-4}$ mol/L and the detection limit was $1\;{\times}\;10^{-7}$ mol/L using linear sweep voltammetry (LSV). The proposed method possessed advantages such as low detection limit, fast response, low cost and simplicity. The practical application of this new analytical method was demonstrated with NFX pharmaceuticals.

  • Recently, quaternary titanium alloys of the system Ti-Nb-Ta-Zr received considerable research interest as potential implant materials because of their excellent mechanical properties and biocompatibility. However, only few reported works were available on the corrosion behavior of such alloys. Hence, in the present work, electrochemical corrosion of Ti-35Nb-5Ta-7Zr alloy, which has been fabricated by arc melting and heat treatment, was studied in 0.9 wt% NaCl at $37\pm1^{\circ}C$, along with biomedical grade Ti-6Al-4V and CP-Ti. The phase and microstructure of the alloys were investigated employing XRD and SEM. The results of electrochemical studies indicated that the corrosion resistance of the quaternary alloy was inferior to that of Ti-6Al-4V and CP Ti.

  • In this work, The electrochemical behavior of CF/Al composite was investigated at constant current densities in aqueous solutions. The surface and cross section of PEO-treated CF/Al were observed using SEM, EDS and OM. The CF/Al composite contains carbon fibers of about 40 Vol.% with 5~7 um diameter and 100~150 um length. The carbon fibers appeared to b removed by anodic oxidation in sulfuric acid solution, leaving a carbon-fiber free zone in the surface region. Anodic oxide films were formed in the carbon-free region by plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO) method in alkaline solutions.

  • The pH-dependent reduction behavior of N-monosubstituted-4,4'-bipyridinium ions ($RBPY^+: R=methyl(C_1)$; benzyl; n-octyl; n-dodecyl) has been investigated by electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical techniques. At acidic condition, $RBPY^+$ is protonated and the protonated species are reduced by two consecutive one-electron processes. The $2e^-$ reduced species undergoes a chemical reaction with $H^+$. The second-order rate constant $(k_H)$ of the homogeneous chemical process is $(3.7{\pm}0.3){\times}10^3M^{-1}s^{-1}$ for the two electron reduction product of $C_1BPY^+$. At high pH, the electrode reduction of $RBPY^+$ is one-step $2e^-$ transfer process with concomitant addition of $H^+$, which is confirmed by cyclic voltammetric study using a microdisk electrode.

  • The electrocatalytic oxidative behavior of an antiarrhythmic drug, procainamide hydrochloride (PAH) at the gold electrode surface has been examined using different voltammetric methods like cyclic, linear-sweep and differential pulse voltammetry. Voltammograms obtained in this study reveal that the electrode exhibit excellent electrocatalytic activity towards oxidation of the drug. The parameters that can affect the peak current at different pH, scan rate and concentration were evaluated. The number of electrons transferred was calculated. The current displayed a wide linear response ranging from 0.5 to $30.0{\mu}M$ with a limit of detection of 56.4 nM. The impact of potential interfering agents was also studied. The electrode displayed wide advantages such as simple sample preparation, appreciable repeatability, reproducibility and also high sensitivity. Furthermore, the feasibility of the proposed method was successfully demonstrated by determining PAH in the spiked human biological sample.
