탄소 부극에서 초기 충전온도별 부동태 피막 형성에 대한 연구 (Studies on Formation of Passivation Film on KMFC Anode with Initial Charge Temperature)

  • 리튬 이온 2차 전지의 부극으로 사용되는 탄소전극은 초기 충전시 전극 표면에 Solid Electrolyte Interphase (SEI)라고 불리는 부동태 피막을 형성한다. 초기 충전과정에서의 용매분해로 형성된 막은 충방전 용량에 큰 영향을 주는 것으로 조사되었다. 본 연구에서는 Kawasaki Mesophase Fine Carbon 부극과 1 M $LiPF_6,EC:DEC$ (1:1, 부피비)에 $Li_2CO_3$를 첨가하여 전극/전해질 계면에서 초기충전 온도에 따라 형성되는 부동태 피막의 전기화학적 특성을 시간대 전압법, 순환 전압-전류법, 임피던스법을 이용하여 조사하였다. 관찰된 결과에 따르면, 용매분해 반응이 일어날 때 리튬 이온의 전도도에 따라 용매분해 전위가 달라졌으며, 저온으로 갈수록 $Li^+$ 이온의 전도성이 떨어져 분해 전위 차이가 나타남을 알았다. 또한 여러 온도조건에서 초기 충전시 형성된 피막의 저항은 온도별로 달라짐을 확인하였다.

차단막 코팅에 의한 염료 태양전지의 전하전송효율 개선에 관한 연구 (Improvement of Charge Transfer Efficiency of Dye-sensitized Solar Cells by Blocking Layer Coatings)

  • A layer of $TiO_2$ thin film less than ~200nm in thickness, as a blocking layer, was deposited by 13.56 MHz radio frequency magnetron sputtering method directly onto the anode electrode to be isolated from the electrolyte in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). This is to prevent the electrons from back-transferring from the electrode to the electrolyte ($I^-/{I_3}^-$). The presented DSCs were fabricated with working electrode of F:$SnO_2$(FTO) glass coated with blocking $TiO_2$ layer, dye-attached nanoporous $TiO_2$ layer, gel electrolyte and counter electrode of Pt-deposited FTO glass. The effects of blocking layer were studied with respect to impedance and conversion efficiency of the cells. The, electrochemical impedances of DSCs using this electrode were $R_1$: 13.9, $R_2$: 15.0, $R_3$: 10.9 and $R_h$: $82{\Omega}$. The $R_2$ impedance related by electron movement from nanoporous $TiO_2$ to TCO showed lower than that of normal DSCs. The photo-conversion efficiency of prepared DSCs was 5.97% ($V_{oc}$: 0.75V, $J_{sc}$: 10.5 mA/$cm^2$, ff: 0.75) and approximately 1% higher than general DSCs sample.

리튬이온전지의 유기용매분해에 따른 SEI film형성과 전기화학적 거동에 관한 연구 (A study on the SEI film formation as organic solvent decomposition of lithium ion batteries and its electrochemical behavior)

  • We have produced electrolyte solution out of 1.15M LiPF$\sub$6/ EC/EMC/DEC/PC(30/55/10/5 by vol%) as a reference, and at the same time, performed basic physical property test using a single solvent of 1.15M LiPF$\sub$6/DEC, DMC, EMC and a 2 component electrolyte solution of 1.15M LiPF$\sub$6/ EC/DEC(1/2 by vo%%) and PC/DEC(1/2 by vol%). Cyclic Voltammetry Analysis showed that, compared to existing carbonate organic solvent, the addition of DEC, DMC and EMC brought the de-decomposition peak of salt anion of PF$\sub$6/$\^$-/ and the solvent at lower oxidization potential of 2.3V, 0.7V and 2.1V(vs. Li/Li$\^$+/\`). In addition, a kinetics current peak, in which intercalation of Li$\^$+/ is proceeded at 750mv, 450mv(vs. Li/Li$\^$+/), was confirmed. These findings suggest that the DEC solvent decomposition occurred at an electric potential lower than that of oxidization of existing carbonate organic solvent. Through the impedance analysis, we checked electric charge transfer resistance(R$\sub$ct/) according to the electric potential of Li$\^$+/ intercalation at 750mv(vs. Li/Li$\^$+/), which was the same as the resistance (R$\sub$f/) and cyclic voltammetry of SEI film that was formed at Reference. By doing so, we found that the significant decrease of polarization resistance(R$\sub$p/) when Reference was played a part in the formation of compact SEI layer at the initial decomposition reaction.

리튬 이차전지의 저온 성능 개선을 위한 에너지 순환 작동 연구 (Improved Low-temperature Performance of Lithium Secondary Battery Using Energy Circulating Operation)

  • Lithium-ion secondary batteries exhibit advantageous characteristics such as high voltage, high energy density, and long life, allowing them to be widely used in both military and daily life. However, the lithium-ion secondary battery does have its limitation; for example, the output power and capacity are readily decreased due to the increased internal impedance during discharging at a lower temperature (-32℃, military requirement). Also, during charging at a lower temperature, lithium dendrite growth is accelerated at the anode, thereby decreasing the battery capacity and life as well. This paper describes a study that involves increasing the internal temperature of lithium-ion secondary battery by energy circulation operation in a low-temperature environment. The energy circulation operation allows the lithium-ion secondary battery to alternately charge and discharge, while the internal resistance of lithium-ion battery acts as a heating element to raise its own temperature. Therefore, the energy circulation operation method and device were newly designed based on the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy of the lithium-ion secondary battery to mediate the battery performance at a lower temperature. Through the energy circulation operation of lithium ion secondary battery, as a result of the heat generated from internal resistance in an extremely low-temperature environment, the temperature of the lithium-ion secondary battery increased by more than 20℃ within 10 minutes and showed a 75% discharging capacity compared with that at room temperature.

모사 부식 환경에서 플라즈마 아크용사에 의한 Al 코팅의 부식특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Corrosion Behavior of Al Coatings Applied by Plasma Thermal Arc Spray under Simulated Environmental Conditions)

  • 건설산업에서 사용되는 구조용 강재의 부식은 산업화로 인해 많은 공격적인 이온이 내포된 대기 환경에서 증가추세에 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 아크 및 플라즈마 아크용사로 Al 코팅을 용착하여 Cl-와 CO32-같은 공격적인 이온을 다량 함유한 Society of Automotive Engineering(SAE) J2334 용액의 모사대기환경에서 그 효과를 비교하였다. 다양한 분석기법으로 코팅 특성과 부식 메커니즘을 고찰하였다. 플라즈마 아크용사로 용착된 Al 코팅은 밀도 있고 균일하면 층층이 적층이 잘 되었고 높은 부착력이 나타났다. 이 공법으로 용착된 Al 코팅을 SAE J2334 용액에 기간별로 침지하여 측정한 개회로전위(OCP)는 아크용사로 용착된 Al 코팅보다 더 양전성(electropositive)한 값을 보여주었다. 플라즈마 아크용사는 총 임피던스가 아크용사보다 높게 나타났다. SAE J2334 용액에 23일 침지하였을 때 플라즈마 아크용사 Al 코팅의 부식속도는 아크용사에 비해 20% 감소하였다.

Enhancement of Cycle Performance of Lithium Secondary Batteries Based on Nano-Composite Coated PVdF Membrane

  • The multilayered membrane for lithium rechargeable batteries based on poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVdF) is prepared with the coated layer containing nano-sized filler. The prepared membranes were subjected to studies of mechanical strength, morphology, interfacial stability, impedance spectroscopy, ionic conductivity, and cycle performance. The localized inorganic filler in the PVdF composite membrane rendered mechanical strength much reduced because of its low stretching ratio and it results in around half value of the mechanical strength of highly stretched PVdF membrane. In order to achieve high ionic conductivity and interfacial stability without sacrificing high mechanical strength, coating layer with nano-filler was newly introduced to PVdF membrane. The ionic conductivity of the coated membrane was 1.03 mS/cm, and the interface between the coating layer and PVdF membrane was stable when the membrane was immersed into liquid electrolyte. The discharge capacity of the cell based on nano-filler coated PVdF membrane was around 91% of the initial discharge capacity after 250 cycles, which is an improvement in cycle performance compared to the case for the non-coated PVdF membrane.

Corrosion Characteristics of Welding Zones Welded with 1.25Cr-0.5 Mo Filler Metal to Forged Steel for Piston Crown Material

  • A heavy oil of low quality has been mainly used in the diesel engine of the merchant ship as the oil price has been significantly jumped for several years. Thus, a combustion chamber of the engine has been often exposed to severely corrosive environment more and more because temperature of the exhaust gas of the combustion chamber has been getting higher and higher with increasing of using the heavy oil of low quality. As a result, wear and corrosion of the engine parts such as exhaust valve, piston crown and cylinder head surrounded with combustion chamber are more serious compared to the other parts of the engine. Therefore, an optimum repair welding for these engine parts is very important to prolong their lifetime in a economical point of view. In this study, 1.25Cr-0.5Mo filler metal was welded with SMAW method in the forged steel which would be generally used with piston crown material. And the corrosion properties of weld metal, heat affected and base metal zones were investigated using electrochemical methods such as measurement of corrosion potential, anodic polarization curves, cyclic voltammogram and impedance etc. in 35% $H_2SO_4$ solution. The weld metal and base metal zones exhibited the highest and lowest values of hardness respectively. And, the corrosion resistance of the heat affected and weld metal zones was also increased than that of the base metal zone. Furthermore, it appeared that the corrosive products with red color and local corrosion like as a pitting corrosion were more frequently observed on the surface of the base metal zone compared to the heat affected and weld metal zones. Consequently, it is suggested that the mechanical and corrosion characteristics of the piston crown can be predominantly improved by repair welding method using the 1.25Cr-0.5Mo electrode.

직접메탄올 연료전지의 장기운전 특성 분석 및 성능향상 연구 (Analysis of Long-term Stability of Direct Methanol Fuel Cell and Investigation of the Methods to Improve its Performance)

  • Direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) is considered as a candidate for portable power sources, that could overcome the disadvantages of lithium battery. But in order to attain commercial viability the long term stability of the DMFC should be achieved. Understanding the long-term behavior of membrane-electrode assembly (MEA) is a prerequisite to this purpose and the optimization of the MEA is also needed. In this study we have investigated the changes in performance and electrochemical properties of the MEA during extended operation and the effects of heat treatment of MEA on the long-term performance. The MEAs have been treated in an autoclave with saturated water vapor at 120$^{\circ}C$, vacuum oven at 140$^{\circ}C$ and boiling in organic solvents. The autoclaved MEA was found to be have the best long term performance. The on-off operation mode also increased the performance probably due to effective removal of products from the electrodes. Physical and electrochemical analyses using a scanning electron microscope, impedance analyser and half-cell technique have been done to characterize the MEAs.

An optimized condition for corrosion protection of Type 304 Films prepared by unbalanced magnetron sputtering in 3.5% NaCl solution

  • Type 304SS coatings were performed at 200$\square$ onto AISI 1045 carbon steel substrate using unbalanced magnetron sputtering (UBMS) with an austenitic AISI 304 stainless steel (SS) target of 100mm diameter. The total deposition pressure in the active Ar gas was 2$\times$10$^{-3}$ Torr. Coatings were done at various target power densities and bias voltages. Chemical compositions of metallic elements of the coatings were measured by energy dispersive X-rays spectroscopy (EDS). The structure and the morphology of Type 304SS coatings were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Corrosion properties of the coated specimens were examined using electrochemical polarization measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in a deaerated 3.5% NaCl solution. The porosity rate was obtained from a comparison of the dc polarization resistance of the uncoated and coated substrates. Scratch adhesion testing was used to compare the critical loads for different coatings. XRD results showed that the sputtered films exhibit a ferritic b.c.c. $\alpha$-phase. Potentiodynamic polarization curves indicated that all samples had much higher corrosion potential and better corrosion resistance than the bare steel substrate. The corrosion performance increased with increasing power density and the adhesion was enhanced at the bias voltage of -50V. An improvement in the corrosion resistance can be obtained with a better coating adhesion. Finally, an optimized deposition condition for corrosion protection was found as $40W/cm^2$ and -50V.

CNT를 첨가한 Silicon/Carbon 음극소재의 전기화학적 특성 (Electrochemical Characteristics of Silicon/Carbon Composites with CNT for Anode Material)

  • 실리콘의 부피팽창과 낮은 전기전도도를 개선하기 위하여 Silicon/Carbon/CNT 복합체를 제조하였다. Silicon/Carbon/CNT 합성물은 SBA-15를 합성한 후, 마그네슘 열 환원 반응으로 Silicon/MgO를 제조하여 Phenolic resin과 CNT를 첨가하여 탄화하는 과정을 통해 합성하였다. 제조된 Silicon/Carbon/CNT 합성물은 XRD, SEM, BET, EDS를 통해 특성을 분석하였다. 본 연구에서는 충방전, 사이클, 순환전압전류, 임피던스 테스트를 통해 CNT 첨가량에 따른 전기화학적 효과를 조사하였다. $LiPF_6$ (EC:DMC:EMC=1 :1 :1 vol%) 전해액에서 Silicon/Carbon/CNT 음극활물질을 사용하여 제조한 코인셀은 CNT 함량이 7 wt% 일 때 1,718 mAh/g으로 높은 용량을 나타내었다. 코인셀의 사이클 성능은 CNT 첨가량이 증가할수록 개선되었다. 11 wt%의 CNT를 첨가한 Silicon/Carbon/CNT 음극은 두 번째 사이클 이후 83%의 높은 용량 보존율을 나타냄을 알 수 있었다.
